Holidays 20 october
The most delicious holiday - International Chef's Day is celebrated all over the world on October 20. Although this profession has existed since ancient times, the holiday was established quite recently. The decision to adopt it and the date for which it was set was put forward by the chefs themselves at the international congress of the association of culinary societies in 2004. The injustice towards representatives of this profession has been corrected, and now every year on October 20, in more than 70 countries, chefs and cooks accept congratulations and delight others with their delicious masterpieces. When the profession of a cook appeared, history is silent. However, it is not difficult to guess that people with the ability to cook delicious food have been successful for as long as humanity has existed. After all, it is very difficult to find a person who does not like to eat delicious food, but not everyone knows how to cook delicious dishes. The first cooking recipes written down on paper were discovered in Babylon, Ancient China and Egypt. Some have survived to this day. The first chefs appeared there, earning money from their skills. Over the centuries, cooking has developed more and more, new traditions in cooking have emerged. By the way, there is a legend that the name “cooking” comes from the name of the cook of the Greek god of healing Asclepius, whose name was Kulina. She became the patroness of chefs. Different countries approached cooking differently. In some, they remained completely indifferent to food, while in others, on the contrary, the ability to cook deliciously was valued more than gold. Special schools were organized where they taught culinary arts, and a good cook sometimes cost a fortune. At the end of the Middle Ages, Italy took the lead in the best achievements in this industry. A little later, France became the center of culinary art. Not only specialists of this profession, but also government officials, professors, scientists and even composers made their contributions to the development of cooking. Particular attention was paid to the cooks who served in the royal palace. They were one of the main persons in the state and enjoyed the confidence of the king. In France, under the leadership of the chief royal chef, about 800 cooks and assistants worked at the court. In England, during the reign of Richard II, the number of people working in the kitchen reached 1000 people. In Ancient Rus', the first mentions of cooks began to appear in the 10th century. Later, personal chefs began working in noble houses. The owners boasted to each other about the masterpieces of their culinary specialists. It was prestigious to have a skilled specialist. In the 18th century, a separate science arose - cooking. Taverns, taverns, and later restaurants began to open, where every visitor could taste a dish prepared by a professional chef. Nowadays, chefs create a whole extravaganza of cooking dishes. They compete with their talents in their ability to create a masterpiece from products. Such competitions are especially active on International Chef Day. Not only competitions are organized, but also master classes where everyone can create their own masterpiece under the guidance of famous chefs. There are also exhibitions of unique products of culinary art, where you can not only look at wonderful creations, but also try them.
The Day of the Signal Corps of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation appeared in the calendar of significant dates in 2006. The holiday is dedicated to the formation on October 20, 1919, by order of the Revolutionary Military Council, of a separate structure that is part of the Red Army. Thus, the military communications service, which was actively in demand during the Civil War and during foreign intervention, received the status of an independent formation.
On October 20, 1961, the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers Associations, IFATCA, was organized in Amsterdam. Since then, every year, air traffic controllers around the globe have their own professional holiday. In Russia it is called International Air Traffic Controller Day. Without iron eagles, moving around the globe would be very difficult. Thanks to airplanes, thousands of passengers fly around the planet every day in a matter of hours. And this parade is led by none other than the air traffic controller. The poet Dmitry Chemankov dedicated a wonderful poem to this difficult profession. In his work, the author subtly noted that at any time of the year, at any time of the day, no matter what, an air traffic controller coordinates flights at the control panel. The first to realize the importance of the profession were the Dutch, who founded IFATCA in 1961. Over the years of its existence, the organization has introduced many renovations and productive ideas. The work of a flight controller is not associated with risk, but at the same time the responsibility is enormous - he is responsible for people’s lives. During the flight, invisible to passengers, the pilot, under the control of the air traffic controller, performs many maneuvers: avoiding encounters with other airliners, avoiding turbulence zones, carefully avoiding areas with thunderstorm fronts. In the event of an emergency on board an aircraft, it is the clear instructions of the air traffic controller that help overcome difficulties. Throughout the flight, the air traffic controller protects the crew and passengers like a guardian angel. In addition to the knowledge necessary to coordinate flights, all dispatchers are excellent psychologists. In an emergency, they must communicate competently with the pilot and crew, avoiding panic. It is necessary to have a quick reaction and be able to make decisions in critical situations. Stress resistance, high communication skills, the ability to see what is important are the qualities inherent in a flight director. Controllers are different, each is a professional in his field, and is entirely responsible for the diocese entrusted to him:• airfield point;• taxiing;• circle;• takeoff and landing;• regional center;• local airlines point;• local control center;• informant. The career path of a flight controller begins with the position of “trainee” and can end with the title of “head of airport air navigation service.” Aviation traffic coordinators often celebrate their professional holiday at the workplace with colleagues. A traditional gift is themed souvenirs related to airliners and air transportation.
Autumn is the time to harvest and prepare food. Thrifty housewives begin canning and making jam in the summer, completing their efforts by the end of October. This month brings a lot of joy to mushroom pickers. They bring home full baskets of honey mushrooms, butter mushrooms, chanterelles and boletuses, which they freeze, dry or pickle for the winter. In October, the collection of roots and fruits of medicinal plants that save from colds and other diseases during the cold season continues. In honor of autumn preparations, a funny holiday was invented - Day of Replenishing Stocks for the Winter, which is celebrated on October 20. Not only people, but also animals have a tradition of preparing for the cold season. Squirrels, badgers, chipmunks, beavers and other rodents make provisions for the winter. In order not to die of hunger, they prepare cones, nuts, mushrooms, acorns and plant roots. Mice and hamsters make grain reserves for the winter. The bees fill the hives with honey, which feeds the entire swarm until spring arrives. Stoats and weasels store mice for the winter, otters and muskrats store fish, and wood ferrets stock up on frogs. Food canning in the modern understanding of the process appeared in 1795 under Napoleon. The commander needed to solve the problem of supplying troops with food that would not spoil under field conditions. And he succeeded thanks to pastry chef Nikolai Apper. However, long before the advent of sterilization, people learned to preserve food, making it suitable for food for a long time. In Ancient Egypt and Greece, meat and poultry were embalmed and dehydrated using soda and salt. The neck of the amphorae containing drinks and oil was sealed with resin to prevent air from entering. Today, canned meat and fish are packaged in tins and hermetically sealed. This technology appeared in 1820 thanks to the invention of the Englishman Peter Dukan. Housewives use glass containers at home, which are pre-sterilized. Jars with fruits and berries, assorted vegetables and salads are sealed with lids, and then taken for storage in the basement, cellar or pantry. Homemade preparations do not contain artificial preservatives, sweeteners, dyes or other additives. Therefore, their nutritional value and benefits for the body are an order of magnitude higher than those of factory canned food. But winter supplies are not only jars of jam, juices, pickled mushrooms and vegetables, as well as firewood for the stove, piled in a woodpile. The cold season must be met fully prepared. Therefore, for the winter you should stock up on memories of a hot summer, a warm sea, the morning chirping of birds and a fragrant cup of coffee drunk on the porch of a country house. To while away the long evenings, a warm blanket, candles, a good book and a glass of homemade liqueur made from berries picked in the garden will do. Take the Winter Stocking Day responsibly and prepare everything you need to face the cold, snowfalls and blizzards in the comfort and convenience of your home.

In honor of the emergence of a new administrative-territorial status, a holiday was established, which since 2019 has been celebrated on October 20.
Bone density in women decreases with age due to decreased levels of estrogen in the blood. Osteoporosis as a result of a lack of vitamin D and calcium is also observed in the presence of somatic diseases, taking certain medications, poor diet and lifestyle. Diagnosis of bone resistance to mechanical loads is carried out using X-ray or ultrasound densitometry. World Osteoporosis Day, established by the International Osteoporosis Foundation, is intended to draw attention to the pathology, which ranks 4th in prevalence among other chronic non-communicable diseases. The solemn day appeared on the calendar in 1997. In honor of World Osteoporosis Day, marches, seminars, congresses and conferences are held in 90 countries on October 20, at which representatives of the medical community exchange information on the treatment and prevention of the disease. Each year the events are dedicated to a specific theme. So, in 2001 it became “Bone development in youth”, in 2004 - “Osteoporosis in men”, in 2013 the events were held under the motto “Strong women make stronger women”, in 2015 - “Strengthening bones." In the first years after the emergence of World Osteoporosis Day, the WHO initiated and sponsored its implementation. This and other organizations, government authorities and non-profit public associations draw people's attention to the factors influencing the increase in the number of cases. These include urbanization and the aging of the population, and the lack of health care in the form of prevention in developing countries. Factors that provoke bone fragility include physical inactivity, a lack of foods that contain a lot of calcium in the diet, and a lack of walks in the fresh air and exposure to the sun. Osteoporosis can be the result of a genetic predisposition, a consequence of rheumatoid arthritis, acromegaly, bronchial asthma, prolactinoma, obesity, thyrotoxicosis, diabetes mellitus and other pathologies. People who fall and break bones frequently, use sleeping pills, have poor vision, neuromuscular dysfunction, poor motor coordination and dementia. Regular physical exercise will help prevent the consequences of these pathologies, which will restore strength to the muscles and normalize the functioning of the cerebellum. Osteoporosis is one of the socially significant problems. According to experts, by 2050 the number of women with a hip fracture will increase by 240%, men - 310%. Taking timely measures to prevent the disease and holding educational events for World Osteoporosis Day can reduce the burden on healthcare.
Many holidays are dedicated to representatives of the animal world of the planet. One of them was established to draw attention to sloths - mammals that live in South and Central America. A distinctive feature of an animal that sleeps 15-20 hours a day is its slowness and leisurely lifestyle. The sloth remains motionless for hours, and if it moves from branch to branch, it does so at a speed of 0.27 km/h. In comparison, snails and turtles are champion sprinters. Since 2010, at the initiative of the AIUNAU Foundation, October 20 is celebrated as International Sloth Day. The animal is not on the verge of extinction. However, the population of 1 of the 6 existing species, the pygmy three-toed sloth (Bradypus pygmaeus), is catastrophically declining due to the deforestation of mangrove forests - the habitat of the animals. Another species of animal is under threat of extinction. Bradypus torquatus, a maned, three-toed sloth living on the island of Escudo de Veraguas in Panama, numbers only 100 individuals. The animals, whose natural enemies are panthers, jaguars and long-tailed cats, are disappearing due to habitat destruction and poaching. The meat and thick fur of sloths are not in demand, although they are sometimes hunted for food. Poachers catch the animals and sell them to exotic pet lovers. Due to their slowness, sloths cannot escape from hunters, so they often become their prey. International Sloth Day is designed to prevent the extinction of unique animals. In honor of International Day, WWF, The Sloth Conservation, Rainforest Alliance and other conservation organizations are raising donations. The funds go towards preserving the rainforests where sloths live. In honor of the holiday, zoos are organizing photo exhibitions dedicated to the herbivorous mammal from the order Incomplete-toothed, which also includes anteaters and armadillos. Zoologists conduct seminars and lectures where they talk about the lifestyle of sloths, voicing interesting facts. In the wild, this furry animal lives no more than 20 years, in the zoo - 30-40 years. The sloth feels good in the water where it swims, reaching a record speed of 4 km/h. Due to the low body temperature, +30...33 °C, the animal’s metabolism is slowed down. The sloth spends a long time talking about the food it eats, leaves, tree lizards and insects, so it descends to the ground to defecate once a week. The rest of the time the animal sleeps in limbo, clasping a branch with its paws or lounging on its back. In honor of International Sloth Day, it is customary not only to visit zoos and make charitable contributions to nature protection funds. The animal’s leisurely lifestyle became the reason for the emergence of a funny tradition. On October 20, all couch potatoes and others take a horizontal position and laze all day for their own pleasure.
