Tester's Day in Russia

On September 9, Russia celebrates Tester Day. The holiday is not official, but, nevertheless, it has gained love, and therefore is celebrated annually by specialists of this profession in Russia. It was on September 9, 1947 that scientists at Harvard University, testing a computer, discovered a small butterfly between the contacts of an electromechanical relay, which got there by accident. They described the current situation in their report. They called the work done debugging (getting rid of an insect). Today, this word refers to the process of eliminating bugs - the causes of computer malfunctions. Then the butterfly was pasted into the technical diary, and next to it there was an inscription “the first bug discovered.” Thanks to this incident, errors in computer operation began to be called bugs. Tester (tester) is a worker who conducts testing, the purpose of which is to control the quality of the software. Not so long ago, such functionality was perceived as a part-time job for students or a temporary place for programmers who could not find a job anywhere. However, over time, it became clear that specialists in this profession are irreplaceable, because the quality of software is a very important component of the successful functioning of any enterprise. Nowadays, a tester is a sought-after and prestigious profession. How can you become a tester? This specialty cannot be obtained at any Russian university. People who want to work in this profession need to get an education related to programming. A highly qualified tester must have sufficient knowledge and skills in programming. Otherwise, he will not be able to properly control the quality of the software. A tester must be able to think like an ordinary user of a software product, but at the same time he must think like the creator of this product and analyze the operation of the system as a whole. On this day, it is customary to congratulate specialists whose functional responsibilities are related to software testing. On September 9, Russian organizations celebrate the merits of testers. Management tries to coincide with this day with increases in their salaries, bonuses and other incentives. Small corporate events are held in offices or restaurants. In addition, the holiday is celebrated by small groups of colleagues, friends, and classmates.
