The national holiday "Two Pimen" is celebrated annually on September 9. It is on this day that the Orthodox Church honors the memory of Pimen the Great and Pimen of Palestine. The celebration is also called "Pimen" or "Rowanberry". The second name is associated with the folk custom of collecting rowan and viburnum berries, which usually ripened in early September. Since the times of Rus', people have “glorified” the rowan - a beautiful tree that is a symbol of fertility and prosperity. Our ancestors used the branches and berries of the plant as a powerful amulet that helped them protect themselves from evil spirits. It is not for nothing that such trees were often planted near the gates of the house. Growing rowan trees could also be seen around places of “power” where the wise men performed ancient rituals. According to legend, it came from the sacred “tree of goodness,” which dried up with the arrival of evil forces in our world. Rowan fruits also represent true love. It is believed that the plant can ignite a real flame in the hearts of people. It is on September 9th that it is customary to begin harvesting the “rowan” harvest. This must be done extremely carefully, and only after the birds have feasted on the sweet berries. Kvass was made from the fruits, honey syrups were made, and fillings were prepared for pies. Branded wine made from red berries was especially valued in those days, and not only in Rus'. Young girls made themselves rowan beads - they strung the berries on a red thread. The decoration not only emphasized the beauty of a young face, but also acted as a powerful amulet against the evil eye. Dried berries helped treat infertility. For an unmarried girl, such beads promised a quick wedding. By the way, at the wedding, bright beads were also an integral part of the bride’s image. To ensure family happiness reigned in the house, its residents hung scarlet grapes under the roof. Rowan is considered a warlike tree that can stand up for itself, and even take revenge if attacked. If during the collection process people accidentally broke the branches of a plant, they had to explain the reason out loud and ask for forgiveness. As revenge, the tree could send a toothache to the offender. This is the explanation why people picked the berries so carefully. If the rowan berries have turned yellow, then you should wait for an early and frosty winter. The late color of the tree means only one thing - the heat will last for another three months. A modest harvest - a dry season, an abundance of berries - the winter will be cold and long. People born on September 9 will have to overcome enemy adversity throughout their lives.
