The holiday owes its existence on October 1, 1980 to the USSR on the basis of a special Decree. The USSR has long become a former one, but in Russia “Medical Day” has been preserved, as this professional holiday is also called. At the moment, it has international features, since the tradition of celebrating the hard, decent work of medical workers has remained in Belarus, Ukraine, and other countries. In 2011, the Latvian government also chose a moving date - every 3rd Sunday of June to honor doctors in their country. The world official date proposed by WHO falls in October, but it is not forbidden to celebrate the work of people devoted to their profession twice. After all, this is a very ancient area of ​​​​knowledge, impossible without practical measures. There is historical evidence of the provision of medical care by Neanderthals. The name “medicine” translates as “the art of healing,” and people with such art are in demand in society always and everywhere. The importance of the works of the ancient Greek Hippocrates can hardly be overestimated, but Russia also has outstanding guardians of human health who devoted their lives to medicine. These are N. Pirogov, S. Botkin, N. Sklifosovsky, I. Pavlov. It is impossible to exaggerate the significance of the activities for the society of doctors: S. Fedorov, L. Bockeria, L. Roshal. Modern medicine is aimed not just at treating diseases, but at finding solutions to improve people’s quality of life. Medical Worker's Day is an occasion to congratulate people who have chosen a responsible, important path. These are not only doctors, but also junior staff, researchers, future interns, and teachers who teach them. It is annoying to note that noble work is not very rewarding financially. The motivation system does not allow this area to be called prestigious; middle and junior medical staff especially suffer. For their compassionate and selfless activities, they deserve to be thanked more than just once a year. All medical workers will receive solemn congratulations on a special date on behalf of the head of state and the Ministry of Health. National awards in a variety of categories are dedicated to this date - for operational activities, participation in rescue actions, scientific contribution to the development of innovative diagnostic methods. The titles of “Honored Workers” are awarded. In Russia there is a peculiarity of calling doctors doctors. It is somewhat inspired by works of fiction. Who among us does not know Dr. Aibolit? And every person who sooner or later becomes a patient strives to see in the medical staff such a “good doctor” who will definitely help.
