Holidays 18 june
The holiday owes its existence on October 1, 1980 to the USSR on the basis of a special Decree. The USSR has long become a former one, but in Russia “Medical Day” has been preserved, as this professional holiday is also called. At the moment, it has international features, since the tradition of celebrating the hard, decent work of medical workers has remained in Belarus, Ukraine, and other countries. In 2011, the Latvian government also chose a moving date - every 3rd Sunday of June to honor doctors in their country. The world official date proposed by WHO falls in October, but it is not forbidden to celebrate the work of people devoted to their profession twice. After all, this is a very ancient area of knowledge, impossible without practical measures. There is historical evidence of the provision of medical care by Neanderthals. The name “medicine” translates as “the art of healing,” and people with such art are in demand in society always and everywhere. The importance of the works of the ancient Greek Hippocrates can hardly be overestimated, but Russia also has outstanding guardians of human health who devoted their lives to medicine. These are N. Pirogov, S. Botkin, N. Sklifosovsky, I. Pavlov. It is impossible to exaggerate the significance of the activities for the society of doctors: S. Fedorov, L. Bockeria, L. Roshal. Modern medicine is aimed not just at treating diseases, but at finding solutions to improve people’s quality of life. Medical Worker's Day is an occasion to congratulate people who have chosen a responsible, important path. These are not only doctors, but also junior staff, researchers, future interns, and teachers who teach them. It is annoying to note that noble work is not very rewarding financially. The motivation system does not allow this area to be called prestigious; middle and junior medical staff especially suffer. For their compassionate and selfless activities, they deserve to be thanked more than just once a year. All medical workers will receive solemn congratulations on a special date on behalf of the head of state and the Ministry of Health. National awards in a variety of categories are dedicated to this date - for operational activities, participation in rescue actions, scientific contribution to the development of innovative diagnostic methods. The titles of “Honored Workers” are awarded. In Russia there is a peculiarity of calling doctors doctors. It is somewhat inspired by works of fiction. Who among us does not know Dr. Aibolit? And every person who sooner or later becomes a patient strives to see in the medical staff such a “good doctor” who will definitely help.
Family holidays are one of our favorites, because they provide an opportunity to meet loved ones, noting their enormous influence and significance in our lives. Among them, relatively young, but already received official recognition and due attention in 84 countries - Father's Day. The celebration was originally proposed in 1910 in the American state of Washington by a resident of Spokane, Sonora Dodd. On the eve of Mother's Day celebrations, this woman, raised by one father in a large family (in addition to Sonora, there were five more children), thought about the neglected role of fathers. Fathers, who often have to take on all the responsibilities of housework, upbringing and earning money in order to support a family that has lost its mother. This was the case in her family, where her mother died during childbirth, and her father, William Smart, who owned a farm, was able to provide for the children and give them a decent upbringing, despite all the difficulties. Mrs. Dodd took the initiative to the city council, where this idea was readily supported. Initially, the date chosen was June 5 - Mr. Smart's birthday. But the organization required more time and only on June 19 everything was ready to celebrate the new significant date. A few years later, Father's Day began to be celebrated in several more states, and in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson announced that this holiday would be made official for the entire country. Traditionally, on this day, Americans meet with families and honor fathers; charity events are organized to provide financial support to single fathers, as well as to celebrate the achievements of fathers in this difficult field. Inspired by the American idea, the holiday of fathers became popular in Great Britain and Ireland, and later in many countries of the European continent. But he didn’t stop there, but became known to residents of China, Japan, India, Turkey, South Africa, Ecuador, Mexico, Cuba and a huge list of more than 80 countries, which continues to grow. The date of the celebrations most often becomes the third Sunday of June, but in a number of countries this day is dedicated to local dates and differs from the generally accepted one. Starting from 2021, according to the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, every third Sunday in October is celebrated as Father’s Day in Russia. But, as they say, there can never be too many good holidays! Therefore, Father's Day can be celebrated more than once a year. Various events are held in cities and regions. All of them are united by one goal - to highlight the special role of fathers, who are not only successors of the family, people responsible for the material support of the family, but also important participants in the educational process, participants in interaction at the adult-child level, as well as one of the main elements influencing psycho-emotional and physical development of the future generation.
Modern gastronomy personifies the subtle connection between the spiritual life of each people and traditions, as well as the culture of food preparation, which in the process of historical formation became the basis of national cuisine. The huge variety of cuisines of the world is an important heritage for all humanity. In order to preserve the bright color and unique characteristics of each ethnic group, the UN General Assembly proclaimed a special holiday - Sustainable Gastronomy Day. The corresponding resolution was adopted in 2016. The date for the thematic events was announced as June 18. The holiday is quite young, but at the same time bright, extraordinary and socially necessary. The phenomenon of gastronomy itself can offer a lot of ideas for memorable events. It is believed that spiritual heritage and national traditions of modern cooking and food consumption culture are inseparable concepts. This is a special interpretation of the world's richness and diversity. It is thanks to the peculiarities of national cuisines that the colorful diversity of peoples, their ideas, traditions and ways of self-expression is revealed. The UN resolution emphasizes the importance of every culture and civilization in the development process. The objectives of the new holiday affect important social problems of the entire world community. The primary goals of the Day are to draw attention to sustainable gastronomy as a tool for the development of the agricultural industry, finding effective and safe ways to improve nutrition, improve the quality of food, and maximize the safety of modern food. The global community should pay special attention to improving production in order to improve the quality of food and its safety for health. Moreover, in conditions of shortage, ensure sufficient volumes of food without threatening the planet’s biodiversity. Considering the problems of the modern socio-economic background of the planet, the UN General Assembly brings to the Day of Sustainable Gastronomy a resolution on “Transforming our world in the field of development until 2030”. According to the points of the document, universal, transformation-oriented tasks and goals must be developed and implemented, thanks to which one can successfully fight poverty, ensure a decent standard of living and at the same time protect the planet from irreversible transformations. An important aspect is the promotion of certain food products, as well as cooperation with local suppliers, support, development and modernization of local production, taking into account maintaining environmental safety and supporting the health of the planet. In recent years, UN policy has been aimed at the development and establishment of sustainable tourism. In this regard, the World Tourism Organization pays a lot of attention to attracting the general public to gastronomic tourism as an important aspect of modern cultural life. According to leading figures, this is a coherent mechanism for improving methods of fighting poverty, thoughtful use of resources, attention and respect for the environment. Today it is necessary to pay maximum attention to the problem of the rapidly changing climatic features of the planet, the protection and preservation of cultural diversity and spiritual values of all peoples of the world. The production and wise use of food in the UN program is based on the involvement of all direct participants in the employment chain in the field of gastronomic tourism. Attention is focused on the responsibilities of representatives of public and private institutions, travel agencies and manufacturers to act in a unified system for the benefit of promoting sustainable food products, establishing reliable partnerships with local suppliers. To honor World Gastronomy Day, many states, UN members, individual organizations, international and religious communities, non-governmental bodies and individuals celebrate the holiday in accordance with national traditions with a special folk flavor. This day is imbued with unique notes of traditions from different cuisines of the world, attention to each extraordinary culture in the name of preserving the great gastronomic diversity of the planet.
A special unit is engaged in the transportation of military units by rail, including armed forces personnel and equipment, as well as in preparing for the transportation of communications. The implementation of the tasks assigned to the army by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation depends on the clarity and coherence of the work of this department. The military communications service appeared in the Russian Empire on June 18, 1868. On this day, an order was issued by Minister D.A. Milyutin on the creation of a Committee, which was in charge of railway and water arteries. Peter I was already concerned with the delivery of troops and military cargo along the country's roads. During his reign and during the battles with Napoleon, a special service controlled by the General-Wagenmeister was responsible for this. Since 1851, railways began to be actively used for army transportation, and the need arose to create a new unit. Order No. 186 of Milyutin was preceded in 1868 by the May order of Emperor Alexander II on the formation of a special service. The relevance of its appearance was clearly demonstrated by the Crimean War of 1853-1856, when railway resources began to be actively used for the defense of the country. During the Great Patriotic War, thanks to the railway, reinforcements in the form of army personnel, medicines, ammunition and weapons arrived at the front in a timely manner. From 1941 to 1945 The military communications service (VOSO) took part in the transportation of the wounded, the evacuation of Soviet citizens and industrial enterprises to the rear. The role that this unit played in the victory over fascism, including the delivery of field mail with news from the front, is difficult to overestimate. In peacetime, the structure of the VOSO service underwent various transformations. But, as in the years of its emergence, it is still responsible for the redeployment or transfer by air, water and land to the theater of military operations of army personnel and equipment. The date of creation of the unit became a holiday. It appeared in the calendar in 2017 after the corresponding decree of the President of the Russian Federation was issued. Since then, every year on June 18, the Day of Military Communications Service of the Armed Forces has been solemnly celebrated. The clarity and coherence of the work of VOSO determines the uninterrupted functioning of railway, sea, river and air communication systems in the regions of Russia. The unit actively interacts with civil services that transport people and goods by all types of transport. The holiday was established to pay tribute to the importance and irreplaceability of the work of VOSO employees in both war and peacetime. Their professionalism, despite the complexity of the tasks and goals set by the Ministry of Defense, is always at its best. As the transport industry develops, the work of the VOSO bodies of Russia is also improved. On June 18, it is customary to congratulate military personnel and members of their families on the holiday, wishing them success, good health and good luck in all their endeavors.
The tradition of preparing a popular Japanese dish of boiled rice with seafood, vegetables, vinegar and other seasonings dates back more than 1,300 years. Sushi, written with the hieroglyph 寿司, has many fans not only in the Land of the Rising Sun, but throughout the world. One of them, Chis DeMay, created a fan page on social media in 2009. networks dedicated to your favorite dish. Chis Demay is also the initiator of the establishment of International Sushi Day, which is celebrated annually on June 18th. The history of the appearance of the hallmark of Japanese cuisine is associated with the development of recipes for preserving fish. Rice and salt were used for its long-term storage. The fish, cut into pieces, was placed under a stone press, which was later replaced with a lid. This recipe was originally used in China and Thailand, and later came to Japan. Starting the process of lactic acid fermentation of rice and fish made it suitable for consumption within a year. This is how the prototype of modern sushi appeared. In Osaka this dish was called oshi-zushi or hako-zushi. During its preparation, seafood and rice were pressed into a special mold made of wood or bamboo. By the 17th century The Japanese came up with a new fish dish, supplementing it with vegetables and rice vinegar. The ingredients began to be wrapped in seaweed paper, nori, resulting in rolls. In the 19th century Tokyo chef Hanaya Yohei decided to completely abandon pickling and began preparing sushi from raw fish. It is often replaced or diluted with crab meat, scallops, mussels, shrimp and other seafood. Today, the popular Asian dish is prepared in two versions: in the Edo style (the ancient name of Tokyo) using raw fish and Kansai - marinated. Outside the Land of the Rising Sun, sushi gained popularity in the 1970s. One of the earliest mentions of this dish among Europeans, according to the Oxford Dictionary, is contained in the 1893 book “Japanese Interior”. It describes sushi as “a roll of cold rice with fish, seaweed or some other flavoring.” The famous Japanese dish appeared in Russia in 1980 with the opening of the Sakura restaurant in Moscow. Rendaku, norimaki, gunkan-maki, nigirizushi, futomaki and other types of sushi, thanks to their piquant taste and low calorie content, have forever won the hearts of Europeans and residents of North and South America. International Sushi is one of the favorite holidays for connoisseurs of Asian cuisine. You can celebrate it either in one of the establishments that serves raw fish and seafood with rice and additives, or order food at home. And real sushi fans prepare it at home, serving the dish to their household members taking into account traditions - with wasabi, soy sauce and decoration in the form of a bamboo leaf.
Many people are familiar with a psychological state characterized by uncontrollable behavior and actions that are not amenable to sober analysis. During panic attacks, a person experiences fear, horror, a feeling of hopelessness and does not understand what is happening. The body reacts to this mental state with tachycardia, tremors of the limbs, shortness of breath, dizziness and sweating. The holiday celebrated on June 18 is designed to learn to control your emotions and resist stress. International Panic Day falls on this date every year. Before the holiday was given worldwide status, International Panic Day was celebrated in the United States on March 9. On this day, according to tradition, it is customary to succumb to irrational fear, panic and unrest, refusing to suppress emotions and allowing oneself to let off steam. Thanks to the Internet, people learned about the American holiday in other countries of the world, whose residents began to celebrate it on June 18. Panic Day appeared in the calendar of solemn dates in Russia in 2017. The word "panic" comes from the ancient Greek πανικός and the name of the god of fertility, cattle breeding and shepherding. In mythology, Pan had a terrifying appearance, therefore, unexpectedly appearing in front of people, he caused wild horror in them. The state of panic and difficulty breathing because of it was studied by Plato and Hippocrates, the Englishman Robert Burton pointed out in his works of the 17th century. on the connection between irrational anxiety and depression. Modern doctors are familiar with both the causes and mechanisms of fear attacks, as well as ways to overcome them. The program of festive events includes lectures and trainings where experts teach not to panic. On June 18, everyone can learn more about irrational fears and ways to combat them. Anxious thoughts that do not go away for a minute not only worsen the quality of life, but also lead to panic attacks, mental disorders, strokes and heart attacks. More than 2/3 of people who suffer from attacks of inexplicable fear try to cope with the disease on their own, which is a mistake. Experts provide assistance in the fight against panic attacks. But they are not always near the person who is having an attack. Seminars and lectures held on June 18 are necessary for ordinary people to gain the skills and abilities to help the 10% of the world's population who suffer from anxiety disorders due to stress, chronic fatigue and mental trauma. The causes of panic attacks are also considered to be a genetic predisposition, poor mental health, a tendency to hypochondria, disruption of the endocrine system (for example, hypothyroidism) and alcohol abuse. In addition to attending educational events, International Panic Day encourages you to relax, simulate a situation with an anxious state and throw out your emotions. The holiday helps people understand how harmful and destructive panic moods are, and how important it is to remain calm in order to find a way out of a seemingly deadlock situation. Anyone who decides to celebrate International Panic Day can try to understand themselves more deeply, become more confident and open to the world around them.
The ancient Greeks, in philosophical treatises, discussed the need for ἁρμονία - the unity of opposite elements and essences in man, nature and the Universe. Harmony is the key to balance, mutual respect, self-knowledge, and integrity of development to achieve the ideal. The coherence of sounds is a necessary condition for the euphony of musical works, the unity of colors - paintings. The consistency of the inner world and experiences with events and people from the outside is the key to mental balance and deep orderliness of a person. A holiday was established in honor of the philosophical category, which reflects the natural nature of the development of all things, the integrity of form and content. June 18 is World Harmony Day. The purpose of the celebration is to develop and maintain peace on Earth. The holiday encourages everyone to look at themselves from the outside, try to achieve consistency of thoughts and actions, and become more perfect and harmonious. In honor of World Day, a race is held for professionals and amateurs who have an active life position and adhere to the ideas of humanism, brotherhood and equality of people. The holiday appeared thanks to the start back in 1987 of the international relay race in honor of friendship and mutual understanding “Peace Run”. The initiator of the movement was Sri Chinmoy, a famous public figure, philosopher, poet and athlete from India. The main theme of his poems is the dream of human society achieving harmony and creating a perfect world. In the first year, residents from more than 100 countries took part in the torch passing event, and in 1991, from the Russian Federation. Russian runners annually cover thousands of kilometers of distance, moving in three directions - the Volga, Northern and Crimean branches. In 2005-2013 On the territory of the Russian Federation, the relay race, supported by the Committee for Culture and Sports, was held under the name “World Harmony Run”. With this name, the organizers of the action emphasized the importance of human spiritual development, the need to achieve balance and mutual understanding between people from different countries. The large-scale Peace Run project was supported at various times by celebrities: black rights activist Nelson Mandela, chess player Anatoly Karpov, the embodiment of mercy and compassion the Dalai Lama, Princess Diana, singer Paul McCartney and other famous personalities. In 1996, the torch visited the orbital station thanks to cosmonaut Gennady Strekalov, in 2006 - at the top of Elbrus, and 2 years later - at the North Pole. Anyone who decides to celebrate World Harmony Day does not have to take part in the race. In honor of the holiday, it is customary to show mercy and love to other people, animals, birds and even plants. World Harmony Day is a good reason to do charity work, expand your knowledge of religion and philosophy, delve into your inner world to achieve peace of mind, tranquility and love for your neighbor.
The invention of the wheel by man made it possible to create devices for transporting people and transporting goods. Representatives of the upper class not only personally traveled in carriages and cabs, stagecoaches and cabs, but also carried small children in strollers. The first among others was a children's carriage from the architect William Kent, invented by him in 1733 for the Duke of Devonshire, William Cavendish, the father of 6 children. The carriage moved thanks to horse traction - a pony or goat harnessed to it. On June 18, 1889, American William Richardson registered his invention - a carriage for children - in the state of Maryland. A patent was issued for a device that looks like W. Kent's stroller. Richardson improved the design, making the cart more maneuverable and easier to control. A holiday was established in honor of his invention. Every year on June 18th the birthday of the baby carriage is celebrated. The first carts were driven not only by donkeys and ponies, but also by servants and nannies who were owned by wealthy heirs. The popularity and spread of W. Kent's invention ensured interest in the stroller on the part of Queen Victoria of England. She was a caring and loving mother of 9 children, so she adopted the new product. Victoria accompanied the children, who were being pushed in a stroller, on walks in the park. Following the example of the queen, all her courtiers acquired carts. Today, like hundreds of years ago, Windsors choose devices from the oldest English company, Silver Cross, to transport their heirs. In 1853, C. Burton patented a product on wheels with a handle at the back rather than at the front. In such a stroller the child could only be lying down, i.e. up to one year of age. Over time, tall carts with thin wheels appeared for ease of travel on bad roads, and low ones with wide wheels for smooth surfaces. Some of them had a secret - a drawer located in a recess under the seat. During the cold season, warm stones were placed in it so that the child would not freeze. Orders for the production of carriages were placed in companies that were engaged in the manufacture of stagecoaches and carriages. Due to the presence of 4 wheels in strollers, the device, according to English law, was equated to a vehicle, which means it should not be driven on sidewalks. In 1873, London police fined several parents who drove carts with children not on the road, but where passers-by walked. This prompted manufacturers to produce strollers with 3 or 2 wheels. W. Richardson's reverse model made it possible to start placing babies both facing the adult and in the direction of movement. The axles in his wagon for children rotated 360 degrees independently of each other, which turned Kent's bulky structure into a convenient and mobile vehicle. Richardson's carriage, which was still only available to wealthy people, could be harnessed to a dog or pony. At the request of the customer, a sun umbrella decorated with fringe or lace was installed on top of the basket. The first years after the end of the First World War saw a baby boom, which led to an increase in demand for baby strollers. The advent of plastic and steel alloys, the use of which reduced the cost of the device production process, made it possible to make it accessible to the general population. Baskets for transporting 2, 3 and even 4 children appeared on sale. In the UK and Scandinavian countries, nannies in the 50s. last century, children were walked from kindergarten in strollers, each of which could accommodate 6-10 children. In Russia, according to established tradition, children were carried in sleds in winter. In the summer, after the Europeans and Americans, they began to use strollers. By the middle of the twentieth century. a device on wheels for transporting children aged 0 to 4-5 years has become available to almost anyone. Everyone who has appreciated the convenience and comfort of using W. Richardson's invention in everyday life celebrates the birthday of the baby stroller on June 18.

Dorofeev Day according to the folk calendar is celebrated on June 18 (June 5 according to the old style). The day received a partial name from the name of St. Dorotheus of Tire, a Christian martyr revered by the church on this date. Dorotheus lived in the 3rd-4th centuries in the city of Tire (modern Lebanon). He preached Christianity, for which he was elevated to the bishop of Tire. Persecution by the pagans forced Dorotheus into hiding, but under the rule of Emperor Constantine I he returned and continued to convert Gentiles to Christianity. Half a century later, when the bishop was already at a venerable age, the persecution resumed. He was captured by the pagans and tortured to death. Sometimes Dorofey's day was called Sparrow Nights. And this was associated with night thunderstorms lighting up the sky with lightning. Because of the bright lightning, they were popularly called motley, rowan, reminiscent of the consonance of the word “passerine”. Residents believed that stormy weather was caused by walking evil spirits and so frightened the sparrows. To escape from the pranks of evil spirits, people used sleep-grass, which blooms during this period. They believed that she scared them away, so they carried her dried flowers with them. She protected from damage and the evil eye, and her flowers in the rooms brought prosperity to the family. Thanks to this plant, the date received another name - Dream Grass Day. On this date, healers went to the forest to collect dream herbs. It should be collected after sunset, reading a special spell. In order to check whether the plant was real or not, it was dipped into spring water - the real dream grass in the water began to move its fibers. Afterwards it was dried so that all toxic substances were removed from it, and used in folk medicine as a potion. Infusions of sleep herbs helped with insomnia, high blood pressure, tuberculosis, skin inflammation and rheumatism. It was believed that prophetic dreams were dreamed on Dorofey's day. They turned to the saint with a request to interpret them and help if they had a bad dream. They believed that if a handsome young man or girl appears in a dream, then happiness will come to the sleeping person. But seeing an elderly hunched over woman meant problems and troubles. On Dorofey's Day, they checked the cucumber ovaries; if there were a lot of barren flowers, then the housewives dragged old bast shoes to the garden bed along the ground and read a plot to increase the harvest of cucumbers. Also in the gardens, weeding the beds to remove weeds was carried out. It was not recommended to have a haircut on this day, otherwise the hair might stop growing. Noticing an abundance of dew on Dorofeev's day, residents prepared for a good harvest in the fields. The fog on the pond foreshadowed a bountiful mushroom harvest. Seeing a lot of spiders meant that hot days had arrived, but hearing a woodpecker meant that thunderstorms were coming. They also prepared for precipitation if they smelled a strong aroma of grass.
