Holidays 26 april
Having “tamed” the atom, humanity had no idea how many victims there would be in the future from radiation. The very first human casualties occurred already in 1944, when American scientists provoked an explosion of uranium hexafluoride. As a result, of the five people in the laboratory, only two survived. After this there was more than one accident, but the Chernobyl disaster remains the largest. In memory of her and all other similar incidents, all humanity on April 26 remembers the people affected by radiation disasters. The heads of the CIS states, who were at the UN international summit in 2001, addressed all other countries with a proposal to make April 26 a memorial day for victims of radiation disasters. So April 26 forever became the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Radiation and Radiation Disasters. The accident at the nuclear power plant occurred at night, April 26, 1986. The consequences of this tragedy were colossal, even on a global scale: 1. Immediately after the explosion, the atmosphere was contaminated with radioactive waste for 10 days, after which the level of release began to decrease.2. Increased levels of radiation were recorded in 17 European countries. Ukraine and Belarus suffered the most.3. Radioactive rain was recorded even in Canada, Japan and parts of the USA.4. More than 8 million people were infected by radiation.5. Hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated due to increased radiation.6. 300 people were infected with the maximum level of radiation, these were Chernobyl NPP workers and firefighters. Of these, 28 people died in hospitals from radiation sickness.7. About 600 thousand people were involved in eliminating the consequences. Today the reactor is securely covered with a new protective dome, the city of Pripyat has forever become synonymous with that great tragedy, and accidents continue. The most recent one was recorded on March 11, 2011 in Japan. This disaster was assigned the maximum 7-point mark on the International Nuclear Event Scale.
The accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which claimed many lives, occurred in Ukraine on April 26, 1986. In terms of the scale of damage to the environment, this man-made disaster is considered one of the worst in human history. The population of Chernobyl was exposed to radiation that was 90 times higher than the level received in 1945 by the residents of Hiroshima after the explosion of the atomic bomb. The consequences of the accident for people, flora and fauna of Ukraine and other countries were catastrophic and have not yet been completely overcome. Therefore, the UN declared April 26 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl Disaster. In 1982, during the launch of the first power unit, the first accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant occurred. And although there were no casualties, eliminating the consequences took about 3 months. Four years later, testing of a turbogenerator began at Unit IV. To do this, it was necessary to stop the nuclear reactor. It was not possible to silence it, and on the night of April 26 at 1:23 a.m. an explosion occurred. The pump operator died from it. In the morning, a second worker, an automation system adjustment engineer, died in the hospital from burns. But the sacrifices did not end there. At the time of the accident, there were about a thousand people near the reactor. All of them received a radiation dose in the range of 2-20 Sieverts (4 Sieverts are lethal for humans). Liquidators totaling more than 500,000 people, arriving from all over the Soviet Union, also suffered. The average dose of their radiation was several thousand roentgens (1 R is equal to 0.01 Sv). Many of them died from acute radiation sickness, cancer and other incurable diseases. The fire at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl could not be extinguished for a long time, so it lasted almost 2 weeks. During this time, about 190 tons of radioactive substances were released into the atmosphere. The earthquake and tsunami that occurred in Japan in March 2011 destroyed 3 units of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. After the explosion, about 80% of harmful substances entered the sea. The total release of cesium and iodine by Fukushima amounted to 15% of the volume of volatile gases from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. At Chernobyl, only one unit was damaged, but, unlike Fukushima, its core exploded, which led to the release of transuranium components into the atmosphere. 200,000 km2 of land in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia were polluted. Later, traces of radiation were discovered in Norway, Sweden, Finland and in the Arctic regions that belonged to the USSR. A photo chronicle of the tragedy was created by TASS correspondents V. Zufarov and his Ukrainian colleague V. Repik. They arrived at the nuclear power plant in the first days after the accident to record details of the explosion. The TASS reporter paid for the pictures with his premature death in 1996. According to the Moldovan correspondent V. Demidetsky, the city of Pripyat, where the station workers lived, after the emergency evacuation began to resemble the zone from A. Tarkovsky’s film “Stalker”. Domestic and foreign filmmakers have made more than 5,000 documentaries about the nuclear reactor accident. One of them, “The Bell of Chernobyl,” contains footage of A. Pugacheva’s concert, which the singer gave near Pripyat in 1986. The first feature film about the disaster was “Disintegration” in 1990 with S. Shakurov in the title role. Later, in 1991, Anthony Page filmed "Chernobyl. The Last Warning", S. Aranovich - "Year of the Dog" 1994 with I. Churikova and I. Skalar, O. Bayrak - "Aurora" 2006 with D Kharatyan and E. Roberts. The realities of life and the chronicle of the accident are objectively reflected in the series “Chernobyl” by the American company HBO, released in 2019. The film received 87 awards at various awards and festivals, incl. such as “Golden Globe”, “Grammy”, etc. The accuracy of the presentation of events, the acting, the skill of the director, screenwriter and stage director were also appreciated by the Russian audience. Periodically addressing the topic of the Chernobyl tragedy helps to rethink past events and answer the questions: “Was it possible to avoid so many victims?”, “How to prevent similar disasters in the future?” Therefore, every year on April 26, people around the world remember the Chernobyl accident on the International Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl Disaster.
Touching children's toys, as if abandoned in a hurry, abandoned buildings, a giant sarcophagus and yellow Ferris wheel trolleys in Pripyat - such images can be seen in materials dedicated to the event of April 26, 1986. The day when the largest man-made disaster occurred. Accidents at the nuclear power plant in Chernobyl. A little more than a quarter of a century later, in 2012, the Day of Participants in Liquidation of the Consequences of Radiation Accidents and Disasters and the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of These Accidents and Disasters was established in the official calendar. The number of these victims cannot be calculated accurately. Documented deaths from acute radiation sickness that occurred among direct participants in the accident and the liquidation of its consequences number in the thousands. But it is impossible to estimate how many people this disaster harmed later and, perhaps, indirectly. Someone ended up in the affected area and irreparably damaged their health. Someone was left homeless and without access to their usual life. Someone deliberately took the lives of their unborn children, because health systems recommended women to terminate their pregnancies due to the risk of giving birth to babies with severe pathologies. A few facts that give an idea of the scale of the tragedy, the masses of specialists involved in eliminating its consequences and the dangers to which people were exposed: – Due to the elevated temperature and ongoing processes in the partially destroyed reactor, there was a high probability of radioactive material getting into the ground and contaminating groundwater. To prevent this, it took the work of miners from Moscow and Donbass, who built a 136-meter tunnel passing under the fourth block of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant; – According to experts, the bulk of the pollution occurred in the territory of neighboring Belarus, from 65 to 70%. This happened because the wind in those days blew to the northwest and west. The radioactive cloud reached all the way to Ireland, that is, almost all of Europe, to one degree or another, was in the impact zone; – The service life of the sarcophagus above the emergency block is designed for 30 years. Work on its reconstruction and renovation means attracting new masses of specialists. While reactions continue to occur, the station can be considered relatively safe many years after the accident. According to various estimates, it should take from 100 to 150 years; – The total amount of what is commonly called a “radiation release” exceeded by two orders of magnitude the effect of the nuclear bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima; “People have returned to the exclusion zone. It also carries out work for which it is allowed to attract specialists for no more than two weeks; – The suits in which the first liquidators worked could provide safety only for half a minute. All these factors illustrate a rough picture of the tragedy and the people involved. To honor the memory of the victims and pay tribute to the survivors, a memorial day was established. Memorial events, actions and rallies are held. Flowers are laid, in particular at the monument to the liquidators of the accident at the Mitinskoye cemetery in Moscow.
Notary Day in Russia is an annual professional holiday, which received official status thanks to Presidential Decree No. 195 of April 26, 2016, and at the same time a more precise date. Since 2007, the celebration has been celebrated on the 27th, as the board of the notary chamber tried to avoid intersections with the events of the Chernobyl disaster. But the decree of V.V. Putin confirmed the historically only correct date of official emergence. It was on April 26, 1866 (April 14, old style) that Russian Emperor Alexander II adopted the “Regulations on the notarial part.” This document allowed the notary to be considered an independent legal institution, although the first representatives appeared in Rus' back in the 12th century. These include the historical character Torlin from Nizhny Novgorod: written and sealed with his signature “Torlin’s letter,” the birch bark scroll is an analogue of a modern notarized document for a loan transaction of three hryvnia. It took the inhabitants of Ancient Rus' many years to approve a charter of judgment at the assembly in 1467 in Pskov, the first articles of which were constantly supplemented since 1397. The document began to contain normative legal acts not only of the judicial system - it legislatively regulated notarial activities. The Council Code of 1649 completely streamlined the procedure for registering transactions, and area clerks were engaged in conducting and drawing up documents. And only Peter the Great carried out reforms, as a result of which they are elevated by the General Regulations of 1720 to the rank of officials of the imperial chancellery, their activities are enshrined in a special decree, and the term “notary” first appears in the Bill of Exchange Charter of 1729. Today, the Russian notary office has about 30 thousand employees who perform public legal actions on behalf of the state with dignity and happily celebrate their professional holiday together with employees and students of specialized educational institutions. Congratulations on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, specialized lectures, seminars, and conferences for the exchange of experience have already become traditional. For the 150th anniversary, special book gift editions and a presentation calendar were published, the pages of which highlight the centuries-old history of the progressive legal institution that is the notary. Various monographs, the so-called “golden pages of notaries,” were presented to the attention of the general public, professional lawyers and ordinary history buffs. They represent professional studies of the formation and development in each specific region: Vyatka and Simbirsk provinces (modern Kirov and Ulyanovsk regions), Yaroslavl and Samara, every corner of Russia, where the existence of this important activity is determined by the life of society.
Every year on April 26, Russia celebrates a professional holiday - Quantity Surveyor's Day. This date was not chosen by chance. In 2000, on this day, the estimated standards of the State Electric Power System were approved at the state level. They represent several dozen collections containing information on different types of work. The initiative to create a new holiday belongs to the management of the Adept group of companies, which specializes in selling software for estimators. On April 26, congratulations are accepted by all employees whose work involves the painstaking preparation of estimates. The entire team of organizations congratulates the estimators working on the company's staff, and their superiors present them with cash bonuses. Distinguished employees are awarded special letters of gratitude. In construction, an estimate is a detailed calculation of all costs, regardless of their type. It is advisable to carry out repair and construction work for the purpose of arrangement or restoration of objects in need of restoration. To implement such projects, you need to have approved estimates. At first glance, the professional activity of an estimator may not seem very significant, but in fact it is very important. Without such a specialist, it will be impossible to calculate all upcoming financial costs for rent, purchase of building materials and necessary technical equipment. Estimators have to communicate with different people to resolve work issues, therefore, in order to achieve complete mutual understanding with them, specialists must know the basics of the psychology of communication. The role of the estimator in the process of drawing up any future project cannot be overestimated. He can calculate material support and track whether the volume of financial investments corresponds to all the assigned tasks, the deadline for which is limited. The qualifications of an estimator are an indicator that is directly related to the quality of an employee’s work. It depends directly on the person’s level of education and professional experience. Unfortunately, not all construction companies agree to include an estimator on their staff, but order this service from third-party organizations. The complex and very painstaking work of an estimator is not always appreciated by people. In order to focus attention on how important the work of an estimator is considered, several years ago it was decided to create a new professional holiday, which has not yet been given official status and the holiday has not been made a day off.
An annual holiday, the date of which dates back to 2001 and was chosen symbolically in honor of the special international UN Convention of 1970. The United Nations is constantly evolving, trying to fully meet the realities and needs of modern society. All aspects of creativity and intellectual property began to be dealt with by its separate structure, established on April 26, 1970 - the World Intellectual Property Organization. In September 2000, at the annual assembly of this international organization, at the proposal of representatives of China, a decision was made to adopt a holiday, a special day, with the help of which the emphasis can be placed on the importance for society of the development of intellectual property and its protection. Effective tools are copyright, which protects individual mental work, trademarks, confirming rights, and all kinds of patents. All this, according to the developers, are prerequisites for innovation. The development of civilization is put at the forefront: with the help of innovations, people learn to control things and processes that seemed uncontrollable. Development and protection of intellectual property attracts investment, compensates and rewards the efforts of the authors of various projects, and stimulates the generation of new ideas. The power of the human mind through innovation, in turn, improves the quality of life of ordinary people. Examples of this include: a device that condenses water from air, a 3-D printer that can restore damaged tissues of the human body. Therefore, with the support of the UN, various actions and events are held on this holiday, which has become traditional in many countries. They are aimed at attracting the attention and interest of the broad masses of the world community to the global problems of our time, which can be solved, among other things, with the help of various forms of intellectual property. New, particularly relevant topics are identified every year. For example, the 2012 Geneva exhibition “The Intellectual Legacy of S. Jobs” reflected the main theme of the World Day: “Visionary Innovators”. The main theme of 2017 is improving the quality of life of ordinary people, which manifests itself in completely different aspects. One of these ways of implementation is the development of new, alternative energy sources, and the discussion of specific innovations related to this. International Intellectual Property Day demonstrates to everyone the achievements of intellectual property in the formation and improvement of music, creativity, art, and engineering innovations that create the modern world.
Every year on April 26, Russia celebrates Sniper Day. It is not known exactly why this particular date was chosen for the holiday, but today many specialized shooting competitions are timed to coincide with it, which take place in different regions of the Russian Federation. A sniper is not called a simple shooter, but one who is specially trained and fluent in using a weapon. He is recruited to perform fire missions at a distance. The profession is in demand in military structures and the police. In the first case, the specialist is tasked with defeating enemy command personnel, snipers and signalmen, as well as camouflaged single targets. A police specialist is used in anti-terrorist actions. He must determine the location of the shooter and neutralize him. A sniper's skill is honed over time. Candidates undergo a strict selection process. In this case, not only physical data play an important role, but also psycho-emotional characteristics and personality traits. The candidate requires attention to detail and impressive composure. Only in this case will he successfully cope with the service in the future. The work of a sniper involves many difficulties, including: 1. The need to spend many hours in ambush, without moving and without losing concentration. Having relaxed and betrayed himself while waiting for the target, the sniper risks not only failing the task assigned to him, but also losing his life. 2. Often the ability to fire only one shot without unmasking yourself. And this shot must be accurate, otherwise the consequences will be serious for the shooter himself, his colleagues, and often civilians. A sniper's weapon usually consists of a regular rifle or a sniper rifle. The latter is equipped with an optical sight and other special devices. If the specifics of the upcoming combat mission require it, then other types of small arms, engineering ammunition, camouflage means, and other special equipment can also be used. The skills acquired during training are reinforced by novice snipers in various competitions. Tournaments can be singles or held among sniper pairs. Exercises are selected in such a way as to reflect the specifics of the work of law enforcement and police structures and army units. In this case, growth targets and other targets are used, down to the smallest ones.
Hugs are generally considered the perfect cure for any mental illness, which is why they have been given their own day on the calendar. Hug a Friend Day is celebrated annually on April 26th. Hugs bring a lot of benefits to the body and help to easily cheer up even the saddest person. Why is this happening? During a mutual hug, a hormone such as oxytocin is released into the blood. It provides a decrease in blood pressure, heart rate and, most importantly, the production of stress hormones. Oxytocin reduces anxiety and improves memory and mood. Hugs are used as a way to express feelings and can replace thousands of words. Very often, such a sign of attention is used to support a person in difficult times or to console him in a difficult situation. According to Italian doctors who conducted relevant studies, hugs help prolong youth and are a kind of elixir of longevity. Those people who are able to give joy and affection to their loved ones and friends with hugs live longer than gloomy and constantly sad people. Among other things, hugs can be called a kind of exercise for the chest, which improves blood circulation and, as a result, a person’s well-being. Hugs are very useful for young children, as they give them a feeling of security and calm, which relieves fears and stress, and also increases self-esteem. On this day, one of the main types of congratulations and gifts is undoubtedly the hugs that people give each other. Also, relatives and friends exchange various pleasant wishes and small gifts, that is, they show all kinds of signs of attention in order to give joy to their loved ones. Also on this day, all over the world there is a tradition of organizing flash mobs, in which people hug all passers-by, giving them positivity and charging them with a good mood. At the same time, almost no one refuses hugs and takes part in the general fun with pleasure. Therefore, on this holiday, be sure to please all your friends with your hugs and tell them a few warm words that will make their day a little happier and brighter. Moreover, such a gift requires absolutely no costs or other efforts, and the effect is unforgettable and leaves a pleasant feeling for a long time.
South America is considered the birthplace of colorful sweet potatoes. It was there, on the mountain slopes of the Andes, that sweet potatoes grow, which the ancient Incas ate from around the 12th century. This vegetable came to Europe thanks to Christopher Columbus. At first, court ladies decorated their hats and dresses with flowers, but after a while in Holland, Belgium, England and Italy they began to eat the root vegetable in a heat-treated form. In honor of one of the methods of preparing the vegetable, an unusual holiday was invented - April 26 is International Boiling Potato Day. Priest V.A. Preobrazhensky, in his treatise “Description of the Tver Province in Agricultural Relation” published in 1854, lists in detail the dishes that peasants ate at that time. In the work prepared by the Scientific Committee of the Ministry of State Property of the Gold Medal, there are the following lines: “Boiled potatoes in water and served hot make up the daily breakfast: they eat it with just bread and salt.” However, this was not always the case. Historians claim that the tubers of the overseas plant appeared in Rus' thanks to Peter I. At first, potatoes were grown for medicinal purposes, making medicine out of them, but later the “devil’s apple” began to be eaten. The peasants were very conservative and preferred other root vegetables - the usual beets, turnips and carrots. The common people did not know how to cook potatoes correctly and what could be eaten in them. Therefore, at first it was met with hostility due to poisoning by green tops and numerous deaths from eating raw, unripe tubers. At the beginning of the 18th century. A cholera epidemic broke out in Rus'. She was associated with the “devil’s apple” and Peter’s innovations. However, in the middle of the 19th century. the vegetable, which they learned to grow and cook, became part of the peasant diet for a long time. In Belarus this happened much earlier. In this country, potatoes are practically a state symbol. It is used to make potato pancakes, dumplings, komoviki and other national dishes. Historical notes mention that when in 1654-1667, during the war with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Russian army entered the territory of present-day Belarus, the soldiers were amazed at what they saw. Residents ate boiled root vegetables, which they called “bulba”. Therefore, the Uniate heretics who ate the “devil’s apple” began to be called Bulbash. During the Great Patriotic War, thanks to potatoes, soldiers at the front and rear workers did not die of hunger. The high-calorie, tasty and filling root vegetable became a temporary substitute for bread, which was sorely in short supply. The chemical composition of potato pulp, which includes fats, carbohydrates and proteins, starch, vitamins and amino acids, suggests that it is beneficial for the human body. The average Russian eats about 55 kg of vegetables per year. To prepare the simplest dish, boiled potatoes, you don’t need a lot of time, spices or expensive seasonings. It is a tasty and nutritious meal in itself. Therefore, on April 26, in Russia, as in other countries of the world, International Boiling Potato Day is widely celebrated.
According to statistics, every second American girl loses her virginity in the back seat of her boyfriend's car. Sexual revolution of the 60-70s. XX century did its job, leading to significant changes in the sphere of moral values. However, the first kiss still remains a significant and romantic event, largely determining how a girl or guy’s personal life and relationships with partners will develop. Touching the object of your adoration with your lips is an act of veneration and sacred reverence. That's why April 26 is celebrated as Remember Your First Kiss Day. In honor of Remember Your First Kiss Day, it is common to reflect on the experience of expressing sympathy or love for another person. Some had their first kiss in kindergarten in a secluded corner behind a closet, away from the eyes of the teacher, while others had their first kiss in adolescence at gatherings accompanied by the strumming of a guitar in a pioneer camp. This bright memory remains with us for life. The holiday is dedicated to reflecting on gaining invaluable experience in interpersonal relationships in one's youth. Or they celebrate with their current partner, remembering the romantic meeting during which the first kiss took place. Remember Your First Kiss Day is a good reason to go back in time. In honor of the holiday, you can find and chat with the person to whom you gave your first kiss. There is a chance that a conversation filled with pleasant memories will be the beginning of a revival of old relationships. If the first kiss was not as romantic and desirable as you dreamed, you should try to work through this situation, thank life for the experience gained and inform the Universe that you are ready to move on. Our brain does not capture many events that, over the years, become memorable and significant. People often forget the first time they did something important. But touching a partner’s cheek or lips is remembered by most as if it happened yesterday. Merging with the lips is the connection of two microcosms, the transfer of energy symbolizing fertility, and a sacred sacrament. It is no coincidence that kissing is part of religious and secular rituals. The ritual touching of the lips to the ground, icon, flag or sword reinforces the oath of allegiance to the Fatherland, faith and moral values. The benefits of kissing for human health have long been proven by the scientific world. They activate the hormonal system, have a positive effect on the immune system and help lower blood pressure. Kisses invigorate, give a feeling of security and lift your spirits even in the most difficult situation. They also rejuvenate, because... They force up to 30 facial muscles to work, tightening the oval and removing facial wrinkles. The first kiss, as a manifestation of sympathy and love for another person, gives an invaluable experience for the rest of life. That is why Remember Your First Kiss Day is celebrated in many countries around the world.

On April 26 (April 13, old style) according to the folk calendar, Thomaida Medunitsa is celebrated. The name of the national holiday is given on behalf of the holy martyr Thomaida of Alexandria, whose memory Christians honor on this day. Thomaida lived in 5th century Alexandria. The girl was raised as a righteous, God-fearing Christian, and at the age of 15 she was married to a young fisherman. When her husband went fishing on the river at night, his father tried to persuade Thomaida to commit intimate adultery, but she resisted in every possible way. Enraged by the refusal, the father-in-law, in a fit of unbridled passion, hacked the unfortunate woman to death and instantly lost his sight. The martyr was buried in a nearby monastery, and years later her relics were transferred to the convent of Constantinople. Since then, the saints have prayed, asking to be delivered from thoughts of sinful passions. The people called Thomaida the Lungwort, because on this day the Lungwort began to bloom. It received its name for the abundance of nectar in its inflorescences; it was one of the first honey plants. Its flower appeared pink when blooming, and after a couple of days changed in color from crimson to dark purple. Bees gave a lot of honey, collecting nectar in its flowers, for which beekeepers loved the plant. Lungwort had beneficial medicinal properties and was used for cuts, lung and skin diseases. The peeled stem, leaves and petals of the plant were used in the kitchen - it was added to soups, salads or tea decoctions. Lungwort on the day of Thomaida had particularly strong properties. The main woman of the family followed her to the forest to gather. It was believed that bears could not stand women, but did not touch men. Therefore, in order to avoid a meeting with a bear, the gatherer put on a man's casing with the fur turned outward. On this day, housewives rejoiced at the appearance of the first sorrel in their gardens. It was used to cook green borscht, crumble it into a salad with eggs, or fry pies with sorrel filling. If peasants noticed the starry sky on Thomaida Medunitsa, they expected a rich harvest in the fields. The blossoming of the oak tree on this day meant that the summer would be hot, and last year's acorns on the branches promised a harsh winter. The cuckoo's cuckooing could be heard on fine days.
Border Guard Day of Armenia is a relatively young holiday, which was established in connection with the entry into force of the Decree of the President of Armenia. This significant event took place in 2007, and a fixed date was also chosen for it. April 26 was chosen for the celebration of Border Guard Day for a reason; there was one good reason for this: back in 1994, on this day, the draft act “On the State Border” was submitted to the Government of the country for consideration. Although the law itself was adopted in November 2001. Each state has its own security system, which is designed to ensure peace of mind for its population. In view of this, it is very important to take a comprehensive approach to its formation, hence the urgent need for each state to protect its borders and form an appropriate unit, which by its existence will instill in its citizens guaranteed calm and peace. The existence of such a service ensures: - the inviolability of the border; - protection of the interests of every citizen of the country, as well as his rights; - protection of the interests of the state and society as a whole from external attacks on security and peaceful existence; - compliance with the regime of border facilities and points. The holiday mainly indicates that the work performed by border guards is highly valued. After all, they perform an important mission to protect the state border. Therefore, the tasks facing the body are significant and extremely important. Armenia borders on four states, so the existence of a state-run National Security Service is simply mandatory for Armenia. The country's borders with Georgia and Azerbaijan are under independent control. Russian border guards are also helping to patrol the remaining borders. Every year, the best employees of the Service receive certificates of honor and titles on this day, and they are also celebrated. They hold a variety of ceremonial meetings and other festive events.
