International Day of Caravan

September is rich in original holidays. So the caravan workers were not left unattended; on September 24 they celebrate their professional holiday. This applies not only to camel drivers, but also to the crews of merchant ships, escort ships, and truck drivers. The holiday originated in 1995 thanks to the international organization ICHCA, which deals with the safety and development of transport and cargo transportation. A little more than 20 years have passed, but still no one can say for sure who the caravaners owe the date to: William Adams, the first European to reach the shores of Japan, or the Prophet Muhammad, who completed the journey from Mecca to Medina on September 24, 622. Since ancient times, there has been a need to exchange goods. At first, people supplied each other with goods atypical for their area: salt, gold, medicinal herbs. Later they began to exchange more familiar things: fabric, livestock, furs. As time passed, progressive traders began selling. Bazaars and trade routes appeared. And so, along the Great Silk Road, stretching through Europe to China, the first caravan set off. When it came to long transitions, trade lines of unprecedented length emerged. Not only merchants, but also scientists, craftsmen, and doctors took part in the campaigns. In 921, Ahmed ibn Fadlan set off from Baghdad to Volga Bulgaria on a diplomatic mission. Throughout the entire route, he kept travel notes, which became the first report on the passage along the Ural road. In his notes, the traveler indicated that their caravan consisted of 5 thousand people and more than 3 thousand horses and camels. Fadlan's notes were discovered by orientalists in the tomb of Imam Ali ibn Riza during an archaeological expedition in Iran. The Coca-Cola Christmas Caravan is an event that both adults and children look forward to! Setting off in early December, the caravan visits 65 cities, travels several thousand kilometers of roads and brings a holiday to seriously ill children and adolescents.
