On the Feast of the Exaltation, it is customary to go to church and give children and grandchildren gold and silver crosses, which will become their amulets, even if worn inconsistently. On this day you should not engage in commercial affairs. In contrast, charity and good deeds are encouraged. On the Day of the Exaltation, it was customary to draw crosses on the doors with chalk, soot, garlic, or make them from two boards fastened crosswise.
