Holidays 11 september
Enthusiasts celebrate an interesting holiday, “Cut Glass Day,” on September 11th. The first example of this Soviet-era symbol was produced in 1943 at a glass factory in the city of Gus-Khrustalny. The authorship of the project secretly belongs to Vera Mukhina, who gained fame thanks to her other work in the spirit of socialist realism - the monument “Worker and Collective Farm Woman”. The order for catering from the Soviet government was not easy. The developed dishwashers required a special shape and strength. The appearance with a round smooth rim and special glass melting at temperatures above 1400 degrees together endowed the resulting sample with ideal parameters. Strength, which is unusual for glassware, is another reason to be proud of the Russian glass industry. It was almost impossible to break it, even by dropping it on the concrete floor. The simple and clear geometric shape (the standard is 16 faces in honor of the number of union republics) evokes respect even among modern experts and specialists. The glass, although not of the same appearance as people used to see it, appeared as an independent utensil in the 18th century. The faceted shape was developed by a talented craftsman for Peter the Great - the glass withstood falls during the rolling of the ship, sometimes without even rolling off the table due to the edges. And the prototype was wooden glasses - “made” from wooden planks. With the development of glass and crystal production in the Russian Empire, cut glass models began to be produced, which gained popularity among the people - “Maltsov” glasses named after the manufacturer S. Maltsov, who established their large-scale production in the second half of the 19th century. This is exactly the glass depicted in the famous “Morning Still Life” by Petrov-Vodkin. This day coincides with the holiday of sobriety, and their unity in the date of September 11 is simply an accident. But it is no coincidence that drinking alcoholic beverages for no reason, which is also jokingly called “The Day of the Cut Glass.” This phenomenon has been known since Soviet times, when drinking alcohol became commonplace. Today in Russia every year there are fewer people who want to poison themselves with alcohol, especially vodka, half a liter of which until recently was successfully poured into such glasses. To celebrate this holiday in an unclouded mind by pouring lemonade or another non-alcoholic drink into a glass is to pay tribute to the bygone Soviet era. Interesting exhibitions of works of art, photographs and household items will introduce those interested to the history of the development of the glass industry in general, the production of glasses and other cut glassware in particular. You can think about soda fountains or hot tea in cup holders, but not alcohol, while choosing a healthier future for yourself and your children.
On September 11, All-Russian Day of Sobriety is celebrated by everyone who continuously abstains from taking alcohol and other psychotropic substances and those who are not so categorical, but want to spend this period of time in a clear mind. The idea of an absolutely sober lifestyle for the entire population arose in 1911 in St. Petersburg, and was supported by the Orthodox Church. After 2 years, the holiday “Day of Sobriety” received official status and was accepted in most provinces. On this day, a prayer service was held, and all drinking establishments were closed. For a special date, they chose the date of the great Orthodox holiday - the Beheading of John the Baptist, because it was at a drunken feast that the decision was made to execute the saint. With the advent of Soviet power, the holiday was abolished as a religious holiday, only to be revived in modern times, when the problem of alcoholism in Russia assumed alarming proportions. The statistics for comparing the share of consumption look very disappointing. Thus, in Tsarist Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, the amount of alcohol did not exceed 1 liter of alcohol per year per capita. By 2008, these deplorable figures reached 18 liters. It is worth noting that today Russia, of course, is not a champion. The share of alcohol consumed is gradually decreasing - it is already about 10, and in some regions even less. But strong drinks are still in the lead and there is room to strive for the ideal amount recommended by WHO (maximum 8 liters). Therefore, the government has developed an anti-alcohol concept until 2020. Numerous temperance societies and Orthodox organizations help in the fight against “Russian drunkenness.” The Christian Church emphasizes the fact that it does not consider wine a forbidden drink, unlike, for example, Islam, which is categorical in this regard. But consumer culture often leaves much to be desired. A sincere appeal to God, rehabilitation centers, and a special icon “The Inexhaustible Chalice” will always help you to be in a natural state without clouding your mind with alcohol. Not only the church takes part in the healing of the nation. Internet blogs make their own unique contribution to the formation of the virtue of sobriety. The popularity of fitness, proper nutrition and an uncompromising refusal of alcohol - such computer propaganda is better perceived by the younger generation. Many socially-oriented initiative groups in the regions of Russia organize flash mobs, collective jogging or workout. The Ministry of Health, together with the regional government, organizes all kinds of master classes, exhibitions, concerts, competitions, and intellectual shows. There was definitely no dull moment during the public festivities. This is the idea that the ideologists of the holiday are trying to convey – you can have an interesting time without alcohol. Everyone has their own path to health and clear thoughts, but attracting public attention to such a serious problem will definitely not be superfluous, because the future of the nation depends on it.
Man proposes, but God disposes. This expression is well known to people who plan for the future, realizing that their expectations are often not destined to coincide with reality. Dreaming is very important and useful, but the result of the process, taking into account the many factors that influence a person’s life, is unpredictable. The picture drawn by our imagination may differ from the final result. A holiday was established as a sign of support for those who dream no matter what. September 11th is the Day of Correct Expectation of the Inexplicable. A wish is made during the chiming clock on New Year's Day or when blowing out the candles on a birthday cake. From an energetic point of view, in order to fulfill a dream, it is important to correctly formulate the intention and let it go, i.e. stop thinking about your cherished goal for a while. The heroine of Victoria Tokareva’s story talks about this phenomenon from the perspective of life experience: “...by the age of twenty-six, I had already noticed that you can’t want too much. Fate doesn’t like it. You don’t have to want too much, just a little bit and then everything will work out.” . Right expectation is not lusting after someone or something. To get what you want, you need to remain calm and unperturbed, but at the same time continue to move towards your goal. The second condition for realizing a dream is a specific idea of what you want. Pictures of the achieved goal in the imagination should become as clear and realistic as possible, drawn to detail. It will be easier for Providence to fulfill the dream of having a beautiful car of a certain brand and color along with an apartment with three rooms than the abstract desire: “I want to become successful.” The third and fourth conditions for obtaining what you expected are self-confidence and positive thinking. An optimistic attitude helps you come to terms with delays on the way to your goal and understand that the ways of the Lord are inscrutable. What seems to us to be a complete failure and fiasco is not always what it really is. “Every cloud has a silver lining,” says popular wisdom, and it’s hard to disagree with it. Fate is a capricious lady, but not a villain. She simply sees further and knows more than a person. Therefore, after a while, you begin to understand that negative events, delays and obstacles were actually the best thing that could happen in a particular situation. The future is unknown, so both a flat and wide road and a narrow path full of bumps and potholes lead to the goal. In such cases, optimists conclude: “Everything that is not done is for the better.” A positive attitude energizes you for new achievements and is transmitted to others who, one way or another, participate in the fulfillment of your cherished desire. To achieve a goal, it is often enough to catch luck by the tail. This happens when you understand that your plans coincide with the intentions of the Universe. When everything goes like clockwork, things are going smoothly and there are practically no obstacles along the way or they are easily overcome, fortune is on your side. Rely on fate, tune in to the best and never stop dreaming, despite age and other circumstances, calls for the Day of Correct Expectation of the Inexplicable.
How exactly and when the holiday of affectionate treatment arose is not known for certain. But for several years now this day has been celebrated annually on September 11th. It is intended to remind people all over the world of the great importance of affection and warmth given to others. Most likely, this day started with a regular post on someone’s blog. Today, during the enormous importance of the Internet in people’s lives, this is how a large number of significant holidays and memorable dates arise. In any case, it would be useful for all of us to be reminded of how important it is to be attentive, affectionate and kind to each other. After all, it has already been proven that praise and affectionate treatment improve people’s mental and physical health. And according to some studies, 8 hugs a day will make a person feel happy. Native speakers of the Russian language are especially lucky - it contains more than one and a half thousand unique affectionate words. Therefore, it is simply criminal not to take advantage of the opportunity to improve the lives of others through kind treatment. The holiday of affectionate treatment is a good reason to pay attention to your loved ones and give them a little warmth and tenderness. You can mark it in the following ways: 1. Spend time with family, make this day enjoyable for each family member. It doesn’t matter where the holiday day or evening will take place - at the home table or watching a movie, on a walk, in a cinema, a water park or in a cafe. The main thing is an atmosphere of warmth and comfort, attention and care for loved ones. 2. Visit old friends or invite them to your place. It is better to devote September 11 not to a noisy feast, but to intimate conversations. You can indulge in pleasant memories, share plans and dreams. 3. Say something nice to your friends, neighbors, or even a random passerby on the street. It's a simple, accessible way to make someone's day better. 4. Establish and strengthen relationships with colleagues. A simple compliment and sincere participation can turn an employee into a good acquaintance or even a friend. 5. Take care of your pet, because affectionate treatment has a beneficial effect not only on people. It is worth paying attention to your pet, playing with it longer, petting it, and presenting it with a new toy. You can also visit a cat or dog shelter. The inhabitants of such institutions especially lack human warmth, attention and care.
The days of military glory of Russia are designed to exalt in the memory of descendants the great events of history and their decisive role for the Fatherland, to emphasize the importance of patriotism. An example of such heroic service to the Motherland can be considered the Victory Day of the Russian squadron over the Turkish at Cape Tendra in September 1790. He led the military campaign of F.F. Ushakov, who won special respect among the Russian people, receiving the status of a holy righteous warrior and patron of sailors. The date of September 11th is officially defined by federal law from 1995. Changes and additions are constantly being made to it, but it is surprising that the year 1790 distinguished itself twice in the military history of Russia: along with Ushakov and his battle on the water, the capture of Turkish Izmail under the leadership of Suvorov is glorified. This event, which took place a few months after the naval defeat, as well as the actions of the ground units of the army during the entire course of the Russian-Turkish war, was helped by the fleet. The Turks lost priority, and Russia, on the contrary, asserted its position in the Black Sea area. The result of the famous battle is truly outstanding, especially considering the initially unequal forces. The Turkish enemy was superior not only in the number of ships, but also in guns, of which there were almost twice as many. 21 killed and 25 wounded - this is the price of victory for the Russian fleet and one can only be surprised at such a minimum. The Ottoman Empire lost more than 2 thousand people and several ships, and the Russians managed to capture the ship of Seid Bey himself, the admiral of the Turkish fleet, sinking the entire treasury in the explosion. This was predetermining for the entire Ottoman Empire - in 1791 it was forced to sign a peace agreement, although it was the first to start a war, not the first with the Russian Empire. An empty treasury, a large number of dead and the abandonment of claims to Crimea are a sad result for the Turkish side. During the battle, Ushakov demonstrated a completely different battle tactics instead of the generally accepted linear one. His innovative ideas and solutions (for example, the “reserve corps”) were successfully tested in the previous serious battle near the Kerch Strait. And this time, maneuverability, a non-standard approach, and the courage of his subordinates helped to win a stunning victory in a two-day battle on August 28-29, old style. The discrepancy of 13 days from the modern calendar immortalized the date of September 11, dedicated to this event, in honor of which ceremonial events are now being held in the Russian Armed Forces. Museums and libraries organize history lessons in an educational form for this memorable day. These are book exhibitions, ship models, various reconstructions of the battle, which can be considered an excellent example of the naval art of the Russian sailing fleet. Big celebrations take place in the homeland of the legendary admiral - in the city of Rybinsk. The liturgy and the laying of flowers at his monument after a small religious procession are events in which it is interesting for students of educational institutions who have already decided on their vocation and connect their destiny with maritime or river business to take part. Military-patriotic clubs, especially in those regions of the Russian Federation where there is water area, never leave this day without attention, conducting educational events such as raising the St. Andrew's flag - a symbol of the victorious fleet.
To enter the territory of another state, foreign citizens receive visas and are registered after crossing the border. Control over migrants arriving in the Russian Federation from abroad is carried out by a specially created service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 2017, her employees got a holiday.
Fostering patriotism and military discipline helps maintain morale among soldiers and army officers and cadets of educational institutions. On September 11, 1766, Catherine II approved the Charter of the Land Cadet Corps. According to its provisions, for the first time, the position of an educational officer appeared to “promote success for the benefit of the Fatherland.”

Teacher's Day in Argenita (Dia del Maestro)
Ivan Lenten is a great holiday for all Orthodoxy, which is celebrated every year on September 11th. This holiday is better known among the people as Golovosek, dedicated to the memory of the tragic death of the Lord’s closest predecessor, John the Baptist. According to the biblical account, the Prophet John the Baptist accused King Herod Antipas of cohabiting with the ex-wife of his brother. However, despite his wife’s incitement, the king was afraid to execute the Prophet, since he was so revered and loved by the people, so he simply put him in prison. Herod's wife could not accept such a decision of her husband, so at a festival in honor of the king's birthday, she persuaded her daughter to dance beautifully in front of the king, and as a reward ask for the head of St. John. After the king finally fulfilled the desire of the young dancer, Saint John was executed, and his head was brought to Herodias on a platter. The king's wife violated the holy remains and threw her head into the mud. However, the wrath of God fell on those responsible for the death of John the Baptist; daughter Salome’s head was cut off by a block of ice, and the king and his wife were swallowed up by the opening earth. The saint's body was buried by his disciples in Sebaste. September 11 is considered the day of remembrance of John the Baptist; on this day it is also customary to remember all fallen soldiers, since the saint was considered a faithful warrior of God. Orthodox peasants celebrate this day with fasting; on this day you cannot eat anything round, you cannot dig potatoes or pick apple trees. Picking up any cutting objects on this day was also considered a great sin. According to popular beliefs, it is believed that summer ends on this day, so before this time they tried to harvest the entire harvest. And they predicted the weather based on the behavior of birds; if cranes flew south on Ivan Lenten, it means the autumn will be short. If the starlings have not flown away for a long time, this is due to a dry autumn. Single people who wanted to find family happiness had to serve in the temple on this holiday and adhere to strict fasting. Fasting on this holiday concerned not only food; on this day you cannot sing, dance, play weddings, and you must also abstain from any bodily pleasures.
Orthodox holidays September 11th:
There are many solemn dates in Orthodoxy, some of which are given special attention. September 11 marks the Beheading of the Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John. It is celebrated by both Orthodox and Catholics. The celebration is timed to coincide with the martyrdom of the predecessor of Jesus Christ - John. The saint who predicted the coming of the Messiah was executed by beheading on the orders of Herod Antipas, king of Galilee. The Christian prophet is venerated both on September 11 on the Beheading and on July 7 on Ivan Kupala. On this day the birth of John the Baptist is celebrated. The saint, as can be seen from the name of the holiday, is called not only by name. The epithet “prophet” is used in relation to John as a person who notified the people of Israel and Palestine about the appearance of Jesus, and began preaching before Christ in accordance with the predictions of the Old Testament. The saint was first called the “Forerunner” by the Gnostic Heraklion, who lived in the 2nd century AD, and after him by Clement of Alexandria. John truly prepared the way for the teaching of Christ. He began to be called “Baptist” after he personally washed the Son of God in the Jordan River. The ritual of immersion in its waters is considered a symbolic cleansing of a person from sins. John baptized various people in the Jordan, among them was Jesus Christ. The Prophet led an ascetic and solitary life in the desert, eating wild honey and carob fruits. Therefore, it is customary to fast on the Beheading, in order, among other things, to free oneself from the slavery of pleasure. According to legend, Herod cut off the prophet’s head because he condemned the king’s cohabitation with his brother’s wife. The woman's name was Herodias. She, like the king, was angry with John and came up with an insidious plan for revenge. Her daughter Salome, dancing at the feast in front of the guests, at the instigation of her mother, asked for the head of the prophet on a platter as a reward. Before her speech began, Herod swore that he would fulfill any request. Despite the fear of provoking popular anger and the indignation of the inhabitants of Galilee, who revered the saint, the king still gives the order to cut off the head. Herodias was forced to prick John's tongue with needles because... according to legend, even after death, angry words of reproach came from his lips. The saint's head was buried by an embittered woman in an unclean place. Divine powers took revenge on the king and Herodias. In winter, Salome fell into an ice hole in the Sikoris River, blocks of ice from which cut the dancer’s throat. The body of the deceased could not be found, but the head was delivered to Herod and the girl’s mother. The king and his mistress ended their lives in exile and imprisonment after the defeat of the Galilean troops in the battle with the Arab king Arethas. On the Beheading of the Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John, believers observe a strict fast - they do not eat fish, meat and dairy products, like the saint who lived as an ascetic in the desert. Orthodox and Catholics spend the entire day in prayer and solitude, remembering the good deeds of the Baptist Jesus Christ.
