Holidays 8 october
Not a single state on our planet can function normally without its own agro-industrial complex. This branch of material production not only provides a variety of food products to the citizens of a particular country and occupies one of the main places in the foreign economic activity of the state, but also regulates the socio-economic situation in the country, and is also one of the components of the security of any state, regardless of its political and economic devices. In the Russian state, agricultural production is among the most important links in the agro-industrial complex and the national economy of the federation. Thanks to this industry, about three-quarters of Russians' demand for consumer goods is satisfied. In addition, Russia's farmland, which accounts for about 10% of the world's arable land supply, employs just under a third of its material production workers. Depending on the global value of agricultural and livestock products, 30–35% of gross national income is generated by the labor of these people. In order to honor the hard daily work of workers in agriculture and the processing industry, as well as to remember the difficult and thorny path traveled by employees of these sectors of material production and to lay the foundations for the development of all workers in the field of enterprises and farms, their professional holiday was established. According to the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of May 31, 1999, it was announced that this holiday would be celebrated annually every second Sunday in October. Thanks to the support of the state and the adopted strategies for the development of these industries, agricultural enterprises have ceased to be an unprofitable sector of material production and began to bring profit to both individual landowners and companies, and the entire Russian Federation as a whole. The reduction in the number of unprofitable enterprises engaged in the production and processing of products, the increase in the number of farms and the attraction of large agro-industrial holdings made it possible not only to abandon the involvement of city residents in seasonal work in the fields, but also to introduce more advanced equipment and radically change production management. The efforts made by the Russian government and ordinary rural workers, as well as employees of processing enterprises, were appreciated not only by the majority of Russian citizens, but also by foreign investors. Thanks to them and the progressive introduction of the labor market, as well as the widespread use of highly efficient equipment and energy-saving technologies, living conditions in rural and township settlements have been improved, which had not been done for decades before. The Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers in Russia is intended not only to solve accumulated problems, but also to lay the strongest possible foundation for improving these sectors of the national economy.
October 8th is the Day of Sunny Smiles. The date was chosen for a reason, because in the first weeks of October autumn is already actively coming into its own, and there are fewer and fewer bright and sunny days. Therefore, you should rejoice at the last bright and warm sunny days of the year, because in a couple of weeks there may well be the first frosts. Celebrating this funny holiday is as easy as shelling pears - you can look at the sky, then at the yellowing leaves, and after such an emotional charge, give a sincere smile to your loved ones. A minute of positivity will put not only you, but also the people around you in a good mood. You can and should smile even at strangers - the concierge, the salesperson in the store, the bus driver. A smile is free, but is valued very, very dearly by others. You can arrange a photo shoot in an autumn park; on the Internet there are hundreds of variations of posing with yellow leaves and against a background of a carpet of autumn leaves. Don’t forget to smile constantly and sincerely, because there will be much fewer sunny days in the near future. It doesn't matter if the weather is cloudy. Sincere goodwill will compensate for bad weather and will lift the spirits of you and those around you. You can decorate the room with emoticons the day before, add balloon arrangements, and fresh flowers. It is advisable to choose emoticons on a yellow background, because they are most associated with sunny days and good mood. For children, soft toys, posters of favorite musical groups, etc. would be appropriate. But the emphasis still needs to be on emoticons, because the Day of Sunny Smiles is celebrated! There are ready-made posters and stickers on the Internet with various variations of emoticons. As a last resort, you can download ready-made emoticons and then print them on a color printer. The most important thing is to put your soul into the design of the room; your loved ones will immediately feel it. If you wish, you can give smiles to those who are having a very hard time right now. For example, children without parental care or cancer patients. You can arrange a meeting through local volunteers; they will definitely help you give a piece of their warmth to those who really need it.
October 8th is World Octopus Day, founded by the online Octopus News Magazine. The holiday is intended to draw attention to the diversity of this order of cephalopods and the preservation of the octopus population. The date of the celebration is not random - the 8th day of October was chosen by analogy with the number of octopus tentacles ("osm" in Old Slavonic means "eight"). People celebrate World Octopus Day in different ways: they visit marine parks and aquariums where these amazing marine animals live, and hold events telling about the inhabitants of the underwater world. Fossils discovered by scientists indicate that octopuses lived on Earth 300 million years ago, i.e. even before dinosaurs. Octopuses have survived in nature, having a lot of enemies (sharks, dolphins, eels, seals, fur seals and lions) thanks to the ability to instantly change color, adapting to the environment. This camouflage helps them both avoid attacks and get closer to the victim. The prey of octopuses are snails, crabs, lobsters and plankton. In addition, to disorient the aggressor, mollusks can throw ink into the water or perform a distracting maneuver - throwing off a limb, like a lizard throwing off its tail. There are about 500 thousand neurons in the brain and tentacles of octopuses. Therefore, their behavior is based not only on instincts. Scientists believe that the predator is highly trainable. Observations have shown that mollusks famously overcome artificially created obstacles, unscrew lids from jars and demonstrate other miracles of intelligence. Few people know that octopuses have a number of amazing characteristics: • for better survival in cold ocean waters, they have blue blood - it contains a lot of copper, not iron; • octopuses have no bones, which allows them to squeeze into the most inaccessible places; • mollusks have 3 hearts - one supplies blood to the internal organs, two others pump it from the gills of the animal;• females can lay up to 150 thousand eggs within 7 days;• the largest octopus, caught in 1945 off the coast of the USA, was 8 m long and weighed 18 kg;• the size of Octopus Wolfi, the smallest species of octopuses, less than 1 cm; • strong emotions affect the color of sea animals - an angry octopus turns red, and turns pale from fear. Cephalopods do not live long - from 2 to 4 years. In addition to natural enemies, they face another danger - animals often become prey for fishermen. World Octopus Day encourages people to start treating octopuses with care, taking care both of them and of the cleanliness of the animals’ habitat.
With the light hand of the satirist M.N. Zadornov’s phrase became widely known: “There are two troubles in Russia - fools and roads.” The authorship of the popular expression is attributed to Emperor Nicholas I, N.M. Karamzin, N.V. Gogol, M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin and other writers of the 18th-19th centuries. The great commander Napoleon Bonaparte, after his defeat in the War of 1812, said with bitterness: “There are no roads in Russia - there are only directions.” However, as it turned out, untrodden paths, impassable swamps and steppes have fans who established a holiday in 2021 - International Off-Road Day. International Off-Road Day is celebrated by extreme sports enthusiasts both from Russia and abroad. The initiator of the celebration, Can-Am Off-Road, a manufacturer of ATVs and Side-by-sid all-terrain vehicles, encourages off-road vehicle owners to take part in the celebrations. On October 8, vehicle owners demonstrate their passion for driving on slopes and gullies as they set off on an off-road journey. Overcoming obstacles in the form of terrain, which makes it difficult for a car to move, is more than repaid by the untrodden paths, waterfalls, rivers, and canyons that lovers of off-roading, a form of active recreation, encounter along the way. Therefore, International Off-Road Day is chosen by travelers who, during jeep tours, want not only to get an adrenaline rush, but also to see natural beauty. Americans have a passion for huge cars with high ground clearance in their blood. Dodges, Fords, Chryslers and Chevrolets are family cars. They are reliable, practical and inexpensive. Pickup trucks are driven by sheriffs, utility workers and rangers, and are used to tow RVs and transport bicycles and ATVs. SUVs are the choice of Americans and Canadians who live on a grand scale: they like to traverse the vast expanses of a state or province without regard for the quality of asphalt laying or the availability of highways. That's why Ford dealers in the US sell one pickup truck every 30 seconds. International Off-Road Day is also celebrated by owners of ATVs and all-terrain vehicles. In honor of the holiday, amateur rallies and other competitions for motorsport newcomers are held. Many of them probably haven’t heard of Ostap Bender’s famous call: “Let’s hit the impassability and sloppiness with a motor rally!” The great strategist, the character of “The Golden Calf,” wrote this slogan on a banner he attached to Adam Kozlevich’s car. The call voiced by O. Bender reflects a special attitude towards life - an irrepressible passion for adventure and adventure. It can be boasted not only by the hero of the novel by Ilf and Petrov, but also by anyone who decided to celebrate International Off-Road Day, rushing in full sail across the mountains, fields, steppes and swamps to a goal known to him alone.
The Battle of Navarino, which took place on October 8, 1827 in the bay of the Ionian Sea, was won thanks to the Russian squadron led by Rear Admiral L.P. Heyden and captain 1st rank M.P. Lazarev. The commanders had wisdom, experience, courage and strategic thinking, which played a decisive role in the destruction of the Turkish-Egyptian armada. The battle in Navarino Bay, located on the southwestern coast of the Peloponnese Peninsula, and the victory in it is the finest hour of the Russian fleet. In honor of the historical event, the Day of the Commander of a surface, submarine and air ship of the Russian Navy was established. The holiday is celebrated annually on October 8th. To the squadron under the leadership of L.P. Heyden included 4 cannon battleships and 4 frigates. In total, 466 guns were installed on “Ezekiel”, “Azov”, “Alexander Nevsky”, “Gangut”, “Provorny”, “Konstantin”, “Castor” and “Elena”. English and French squadrons fought on the side of the Russian fleet. The Ottomans, under the leadership of Mogarem Bey, had more than 60 ships and were no less well armed. In addition, they initially had a good position, which allowed them to hide in the bay behind the fortress and coastal batteries. The poor training of the Turkish-Egyptian crews, in contrast to the Allied fleet, was one of the reasons for the defeat of the Ottomans. On October 8, 1827, English, French and Russian ships entered Navarino Bay. The first to fall under the crushing blow were the British frigates with the flagship Asia. "Azov" came to his rescue under the command of the intrepid captain Lazarev, turning the enemy's attention to himself. The ship's crew had to fight alone with 5 enemy ships. Thanks to the Azov, which received 1,800 hits, 7 of them below the waterline, 5 enemy ships were sunk. The crushing battle between the Allied armada and the Ottomans lasted for several hours. The Turkish fleet, despite stubborn resistance, was destroyed. The ship "Gangut" under the command of A.P. distinguished itself in the battle. Avinova, "Ezekiel" and other sea vessels of the Russian squadron. For military exploits, the ship "Azov" was awarded the St. George flag and pennant. Commander of the Russian squadron L.P. Heyden was awarded the rank of vice admiral and the Order of St. George, III degree. In the battle, the lieutenant, later known as Admiral P.S., showed himself heroically. Nakhimov, midshipman V.I. Istomin and midshipman V.A. Kornilov. The decision to establish the Day of the Commander of a Surface, Submarine and Aircraft was made in 2007 on the basis of Decree No. 506 of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy. Veterans, generals and other members of the public organization "Admirals Club" petitioned for the appearance of a memorial date in the calendar. In modern Russia, the Navy includes aviation units. Therefore, on September 8, commanders of both submarines and surface ships, as well as aircraft, are honored.
In the folk calendar, Sergei Kapustnik or Chicken Coop falls on October 8th. Every year on this day the Orthodox Church honors the memory of Sergius of Radonezh. Since ancient times, people have been preparing cabbage for fermentation, starting preparations for the wedding season, and slaughtering chickens for sale. The saint was born in 1320 into a wealthy family of boyars Kirill and Maria, who were originally from Rostov. The parents named their son Bartholomew. In the 14th century, difficult times came for Russia. Communication with Europe and Byzantium was severed. The Tatar-Mongol conquerors carried out rampages in many regions. Russian people at that time tried to move to the north. Bartholomew's family also moved to the small town of Radonezh, which was under the patronage of the Moscow princes. After the Monk Sergius took monastic vows, he founded the Trinity Monastery in the Radonezh forests and was abbot there. The communal rules of this monastery were later adopted in all Russian monasteries. Subsequently, the temple was renamed the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. Prince Dmitry Donskoy came to the Trinity Monastery in 1380. Before the Battle of Kulikovo with Khan Mamai, Sergius of Radonezh sprinkled the soldiers with holy water and also blessed the Russian army for victory. In 1932, St. Sergius of Radonezh died. After his death, miraculous healings and phenomena began among the people. For example, the saint appeared to Abbot Nikon in 1408 with a prediction that the monastery would be destroyed by Khan Edigei, but after that it would be restored again. Sergius of Radonezh appeared to Kuzma Minin in 1610. Then he ordered the commander to gather an army and begin to liberate the Russian land. People consider the saint to be the guardian of chickens. On October 8, peasants slaughtered birds for sale, and also began chopping cabbage for sourdough. Since ancient times, Russian people have treated cabbage with special respect, so pickling has become a real folk custom. There were a lot of recipes for sauerkraut. Each region used different fermentation methods. Most often, large wooden barrels were used for fermentation. In them, the cabbage turned out to be especially tasty and healthy, since all the vitamins and other useful substances were preserved in it. Preparing barrels for pickling vegetables is quite a responsible undertaking. Residents of the southern regions, before starting cooking, washed the barrels, rubbed them inside with garlic, and then fumigated them with thyme. In other regions, clean barrels were first steamed. To do this, they were washed thoroughly and small juniper branches, previously scalded with boiling water, were placed inside. The wood was saturated with the scent of juniper. To prevent it from evaporating outside, the barrel was covered with a cotton blanket on top. After some time, the edge of the blanket was lifted and hot stones were thrown into the tub to reheat the water and get a new portion of the juniper aroma, which was supposed to completely saturate the barrel. Such manipulations were carried out not only to ensure that the finished dish was flavorful, but also for disinfection. If everything was done correctly, the pickles were stored for a long time without turning sour or moldy. And in those areas where juniper does not grow, it was replaced with Siberian brooms and wormwood. While steaming the tubs, dry mint and dill were also placed inside. Every year on October 8, when Sergei Kapustnik arrived, people judged by the weather what kind of winter was coming: • If winter begins on Sergei, with Matryona winter (November 22) it is finally established. • If the first snow fell on Sergei, then winter this year will come on Michaelmas, which is celebrated on November 21.• It is believed that the winter path is established within four weeks after October 8.• Winter will be early if the first snow fell on the waning moon, and the ground was wet at that time.• If on Sergei Dry snow falls on the cabbage tree, then the next summer will be warm. • If the first frost occurs when all the leaves have flown off the cherry tree, then winter will come soon. People born on October 8th are particularly homely. Jasper as a talisman will help them protect themselves from troubles, become more successful and arrange their personal lives.

Orthodox holidays on October 8:
October 1 according to the Orthodox calendar - Glorification of St. Euphrosyne of Suzdal. The Day of Remembrance of the Blessed Princess falls on October 8. In the world her name was Feodulia Chernigovskaya. She steadfastly endured all the trials sent to her lot, and became the embodiment of patience, which is characteristic of Russian women. The princess’s feat was accomplished through prayer and labor, and then bequeathed to all the people of the Russian land. The Monk Euphrosyne was born into the family of Prince Mikhail of Chernigov in 1212. The noble prince and his wife Feofania could not have children for a long time and often prayed in the Kiev Pechersk Monastery, hoping that God would give them a child. While praying, the Most Holy Theotokos appeared to them three times and told the couple that a daughter would soon be born into the princely family, whose name would be Theodulia, and that in the future she would serve in the Blachernae Church. After some time, the prediction came true and the prince gave birth to a girl, who, according to the word of the Mother of God, was named Theodulia. The baptismal ceremony was carried out in the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery, and the abbot himself became her godfather. When Theodulia grew up, her father began to teach his daughter the Holy Scriptures. Boyar Theodore, who was the wisest and most educated at court, was assigned as a mentor to the princess. He taught the girl to read and write and instilled in her a love of ancient literature. In 1233, she was betrothed to the young Prince Fyodor Yaroslavovich, who was the brother of Alexander Nevsky. The young girl did not contradict the will of her parents, but secretly dreamed of an Ionian life. They decided to hold the wedding in Suzdal, but the princess was not destined to become a wife, since the young groom suddenly died right during the feast. After this, Theodulia persuaded the abbess, who served in the Blachernae church, to accept her into the temple. On September 25, she took monastic vows and received a new name - Euphrosyne. The parents accepted this and decided to submit to the will of God. The young nun spent most of her time in prayer, and studied the word of God at night. Euphrosyne could abstain from eating for weeks, drinking only water in small quantities. Soon the Savior appeared in her and commanded her to strengthen herself in feat. Thanks to the actions of the saint, the monastery in which she lived became known as the best in all of Rus'. Soon, many people began to come to the monastery for Euphrosyne’s advice, who wanted to hear her teachings about obedience, humility, prayer and love. When epidemics began in Rus', the Mother of God appeared to Euphrosyne of Suzdal and awarded her the gift of healing. After this, the saint was able to treat people with serious illnesses. After some time, God rewarded her with the gift of prophecy. Euphrosyne predicted the martyrdom of her father and the imminent death of her mentor, the abbess. During the offensive of Batu's troops, the monastery where the saint lived survived thanks to her prayers. During a trip to the Horde, her father was executed. After his martyrdom, the girl spent many days in prayer. Soon the abbess died at the monastery and Euphrosyne assumed spiritual leadership. After that, she lived in complete self-denial and strictly fulfilled all obligations. People revered her for her gifts of grace and maternal responsiveness. Shortly before the Monk Euphrosyne left this world, she had a vision in which she saw the Most Holy Theotokos, who asked the Son of God to save the city from an earthquake. After this, her father came to her along with Boyarin Fedor and informed her of her imminent death. On September 25, 1250, the Monk Euphrosyne passed away into another world. This happened exactly seventeen years after she took monastic vows. On September 18, 1698, her glorification took place. The incorrupt relics of the saint were in the Deposition of Robe Monastery. At the tomb of Euphrosyne of Suzdal, believers began to receive grace-filled help. It is especially effective in healing those who are possessed by evil spirits. During her life, she waged a constant battle with demons and was able to defeat them through humility and prayers. After her death, the saint helps in liberation from the evil force that torments the soul and body of a person.
By analogy with other holidays celebrated by the Christian Church, the day of remembrance of St. Sergius is associated with a number of traditions and prohibitions: It is worth giving up loud arguments, foul language, difficult thoughts and experiences. A strict taboo is imposed on the occult - magic, fortune telling, hexing. It is recommended to provide all possible assistance to people in need, to support relatives, friends and others with noble deeds and kind words. The churches hold services that are worth visiting and taking part in the singing. Upon returning home, you need to read a prayer of glorification, and then ask the icon for happiness, physical and spiritual health, and good luck in your endeavors. The abbot is considered the patron saint of pupils and students. His merits include not only the foundation of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra and other churches. During his lifetime, the saint performed miracles, was engaged in peacemaking activities, delicately and gently eliminating conflicts between warring parties. On the day of the performance they judge when the first cold will arrive. If snow fell on October 8, they concluded that winter weather set in early on the 20th of October. Since in Rus' the guardian was considered the patron of poultry, chicken dishes and treats, various snacks and egg salads were placed on the table on the day of his memory.
