Holidays 20 november
This holiday was first celebrated in 1954. It was then that the UN General Assembly issued a statement in which it advised to organize ceremonial events dedicated to minor citizens. They should be aimed at improving mutual understanding between adults and children, improving the well-being of each individual child, regardless of their country of residence. It is expected that this holiday will help strengthen cooperation between nations and their gradual integration into the global process. The UN proposed holding celebrations on any day that would be convenient for representatives of a particular country. But November 20 was chosen by representatives of the world community for a reason. The fact is that in 1959, it was on this date that a declaration regulating the rights of the child was signed. And exactly 30 years later, the countries signed the corresponding Convention, which further secured them. First of all, the date affects charitable and commercial organizations that improve the lives of children around the world. Their main task is to focus people's attention on the problems of this age group. That is why they hold all kinds of charity concerts, meetings with people, stand on busy streets and hold instructive conversations. The problem is especially serious with children who have lost their parents due to AIDS or other serious illnesses. They must be visited and asked about their well-being and morale. Very often, seminars are held and certificates of gratitude are given to people who have made maximum efforts to improve the lives of minors. The authorities of some regions, districts, and cities organize sports competitions, art exhibitions, and festive concerts accompanied by songs and dances. Unfortunately, this date is not very popular in Russia yet. Typically all major events are held on June 1st. Even the media sometimes ignore this date.
Africa's second decade of industrial development, from 1991 to 2000, gave rise to the creation of Africa Industrialization Day. It was established by the UN General Assembly in 1989 by resolution of December 22, adhering to the goal of accelerating the pace of industrial development on the lagging continent with the support of developed world powers. November 20 was designated as an official day and is now celebrated annually in UN member countries since 1990. Natural resources make Africa rich. It has large deposits of ores and metals. The northern and western parts of the continent are the world's suppliers of oil and gas. The world also receives a significant share of tropical and subtropical agricultural products from Africa. But economic development is slowed down by factors such as the lack of access to the sea and ocean in most countries, and the rugged coastline prevents the construction of large ports. In addition, the soil in not all countries of the continent is suitable for agriculture. It is worth noting that the main causes of poverty in African states are considered to be the low level of education of the population, especially in schools, low investment in enterprises, poor infrastructure between countries, and a lack of science and technology, affecting the already small number of qualified specialists. According to statistics, about 70% of the mainland's population lives below the poverty line. The African continent is considered the laggard of all others in terms of industrialization. Industrial progress and the provision of jobs to the population have virtually no growth. Since the founding of Industrialization Day, 1% of Africa's industrial production has been supplied to the world market. Most developed countries impose restrictions on imported goods from lagging African countries, which in turn worsens the economy of the latter. During the next UN meeting dedicated to African Industrialization Day, the Secretary-General made a request to representatives of developed countries to open access to industrial goods from the black continent. In turn, African powers should prepare suitable conditions that influence the growth of entrepreneurial activity. The international community can provide assistance in this matter. By raising industry to a sufficient level, African countries will be able to process raw materials, which in turn will increase their selling price. Today, shifts in economic growth in a positive direction are already noticeable. Improving the economy helps solve problems of high unemployment and will reduce poverty in the future. In addition, to increase the industrialization of the continent, the main emphasis should be on improving investment programs, transparency of laws, and reducing the level of corruption. Although, as the practice of many developing countries shows, this difficult task requires more than one year of hard work.
November 20 is Pediatrician's Day, which has been celebrated in many countries around the world for quite some time. The history of its celebration is simple. It is due to the fact that on November 20, 1954, at the initiative of the UN General Assembly, the Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted. This was subsequently continued, since it became obvious that children, like adults, have the right to decent medicine, education, timely medical care, etc. Therefore, Pediatrician Day was established, which was a completely logical decision. In addition, since the Middle Ages it became clear that the health of children has its own specifics, and it is impossible to approach the treatment of children and adults in the same way. There is evidence that, starting from the 15th century, a separate medical specialization began to form: doctors began to appear who were engaged in treatment, focusing specifically on children's anatomy and physiology. Although it took almost another 500 years for humanity to realize the importance of establishing a professional holiday specifically for pediatricians, as special doctors who bear a very great responsibility. Pediatrics requires deep knowledge and extensive practice. Not to mention the fact that pediatric doctors often, even morally, feel much more responsible for the lives of their patients than their colleagues who work with an older audience. In many ways, this responsibility is imposed on pediatricians by society itself, which has formed trends and stereotypes. One way or another, the popular phrase “All the best goes to the children” perfectly explains how high the standards are when it comes to the life of a child. Traditionally, on this day, a variety of events related to medicine, including pediatrics, are held. Of course, this is not the only option for how you can mark the date. There are many international charities that help children around the world. It is believed that many children, including minors, live in Africa and South America, and yet they do not have the opportunity to attend school or receive qualified medical care. Many of them are deprived of parents, live in single-parent families, and are also forced to work from an early age. Unfortunately, the situation is not improving over time, and in some regions of the planet is even worsening. This also happens for reasons related to the negative impact on the environment. Thus, in Africa, many people suffer from a lack of drinking water. Because of this, mortality increases significantly, primarily among children. It is not surprising that on November 20, environmental and human rights organizations become so active and meetings are held with representatives of the famous international society Doctors Without Borders. On television you can see programs dedicated to motherhood and childhood, round tables are held, even an excursion into history is made so that as many people as possible learn about how medicine developed, how families lived in the Middle Ages, in other eras, how pediatrics arose, what are its capabilities at present? On November 20, it is customary to congratulate doctors who have worked in this field for a long time, who have served conscientiously and selflessly. There are pediatricians in all hospitals, and they are the ones who know the real state of affairs. Pediatricians are often the initiators of certain political and social innovations aimed at improving the quality of life of children. Such meetings and information support make it possible to popularize pediatrics. This, in turn, encourages applicants and future students of medical universities to choose this particular area of activity. Subsequently, many of the graduates become volunteers, coming to hot spots of the planet to provide children with qualified medical care.
Millions of people across Russia every day go to work and get into private cars, buses, minibuses, and metro cars. Crowds, traffic jams and hundreds of other passengers who are also in a hurry to start a new day - this is what a typical weekday morning looks like in both a metropolis and a small town. Each of us has our own usual route that we follow every day. One way or another, the life of a modern person is inextricably linked with roads. We travel by train and train, and sometimes we fly on planes or sail on ferries. Transport systems are arteries and veins through which all cells of a large organism communicate, be it a city, a region or an entire country. We may not notice the work of the people who ensure the smooth operation of this infrastructure, but we reap its benefits every day. November 20 is celebrated as Transport Worker's Day in Russia. The date of the holiday was not chosen by chance. This day became memorable, since it was on November 20, by decree of Alexander I, that the first centralized transport department was created and a huge step was taken towards the development of this system. The professional holiday of transport workers was established much later, but the choice of this particular date became an elegant nod that takes us back to our roots. The transport system gradually expanded. First there were trains, then cars and planes. New roads were actively laid. For example, BAM has become a real construction site of the century. If previously it took months for a person to get from one end of our country to the other, today you can fly from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok in just 12 hours with one transfer. Today we have more than four hundred industrial and non-productive industries. The work of each of them is directly related to transport systems. Cut just one such thread and logistics will face a number of complex and sometimes completely insoluble problems. In modern Russia, more than 4 million people are employed in the transport sector. And this entire “circulatory” system of a huge state functions only thanks to their coordinated work. On November 20, we should congratulate all road workers, metro employees, sailors and pilots, and railway workers on their professional holiday. In many institutions, evenings and meetings are held on this day, at which the best workers and labor veterans receive congratulations in a solemn atmosphere.
To rejoice and admire every manifestation of life is a special gift. One of his romances is a 19th century poet. A. Delvig begins with the stanza: “A beautiful day, a happy day: And the sun and love! The shadow has fled from the naked fields - The heart is brightening again.” These lines immerse the reader in a world where harmony, joy and mutual understanding reign. Romance gives a feeling of calm, encourages you to enjoy beautiful moments and the fullness of life. However, not every person has a positive inner attitude. There are people who live in the past and do not believe in the bright prospects of the future. “The best day set yesterday,” begins the chorus of Grigory Leps’ song. A holiday has been established for those who do not agree with the sad message of the musical composition and look into the future with optimism. November 20th is an unusual holiday - A Beautiful Day. The life-affirming name Beautiful Day is given to the songs of the Irish band U2 and the US rock band The Beach Boys. Pictures and films, poems and novels are dedicated to wonderful days, which have a place in everyone’s life. It is easy to rejoice at the raindrops, the birds returning from the south and the green buds on the trees in the spring, the sun, the sea, the greenery of the forests and fields in the summer. It is much more difficult to do this in a cloudy and chilly autumn. Perhaps in order for a person to make an effort on himself, go outside and smile at the pouring rain and gloomy sky, a wonderful day is celebrated on November 20th. There are no indications on the Internet or printed sources about the traditions of celebrating Beautiful Day. Therefore, everyone who decided to make November 20 a special day relies on their intuition and the desire to paint everyday life with bright colors. In honor of the holiday, it is customary to call friends, send e-cards with funny wishes and funny pictures, give small gifts to loved ones, and make their wishes come true like a wizard from a fairy tale. Remember: “A day is wasted if you don’t make someone at least a little happier.” A good mood and self-confidence are half the success in any business. A wonderful day should be greeted with joy and a smile on your face. Laughter is contagious, as is a positive attitude. Therefore, in the morning you should wish a good day to your family, friends, work colleagues and even random people who meet on your way. A person who radiates warmth and love harmonizes the world, balancing it with his positive emotions. Each of us can make November 20 a wonderful day for ourselves and the people around us. To do this, it is enough to smile and open your heart towards happiness, joyful events and love.
Girls, playing mother-daughters, choose roles and plots based on real family life. Before pressing the "Start" button, young gamers come up with names, ages, and character traits for their characters. Adult life provides no less opportunities for transformation. Thus, actors and actresses try on other people’s destinies every day, getting into character for acting on the stage or filming in films. Participants in carnivals and festive processions dress up in costumes. At least once a year, parents, kindergarten teachers and school teachers have the opportunity to transform into Father Frost or the Snow Maiden. Before entering a trance, shamans, to the sounds of their own voices and a tambourine, begin to impersonate themselves with some animal or natural spirit. On the Day of the Dead, residents of Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua and other Latin American countries participate in parades after dressing up in skeleton costumes and wearing make-up in the form of a skull mask. Such a transformation symbolizes the cycle of life and death among the descendants of the Mayans and Aztecs. In honor of the opportunity to try on various roles and masks, an unusual holiday has been established. November 20th is a funny Day of Reincarnation. According to popular Slavic beliefs, the ability to change appearance has always been inherent in sorcerers. Therefore, lady, the heroine of the story by N.V. Gogol's "Viy" alternately became a terrible witch and a young girl. In honor of the holiday, everyone can try on someone else's image and be their opposite without the use of magic. Modest and shy people for one day become jokers and the life of the party, and “techies” who are far from art become artists and poets. Transformation Day invites women to try on outfits that they previously did not have the fortitude to wear. In the process, you come to understand that short skirts suit not only models on the catwalk, but a carefully selected long dress fits perfectly on any figure. Experienced hairdressers know that to get out of depression and improve their vitality, their clients just need to get a new haircut and dye their hair. Transformation Day is the ideal time to experiment with your own appearance, including tattooing and piercing. In honor of the holiday, strict bosses, who have always kept the team at a distance from themselves, come to the common smoking room and tell jokes. Unsociable colleagues, who ran home after the end of the working day, go together with other employees to a cafe on November 20, breaking all stereotypes and abandoning templates. The holiday encourages the manifestation of imagination and courage, calling on all people dissatisfied with their lives to think about the wisdom of the expression “If you want to change the world, change yourself.”
One of the most romantic types of transport, which became a symbol of a bygone era, appeared in Berlin in 1881 and very quickly became popular in other cities and countries. The predecessor of the tram is considered to be a horse-drawn horse drawn horse to move it along the rails. At the beginning of the twentieth century. electric trailers slowly rolling through the streets have driven horses out of city streets. This type of public transport has become a place where various funny things happened to passengers, both funny and dramatic events unfolded. The first models without doors allowed you to jump on the running board and drive, hanging your body from the platform onto the street, to the desired stop. Children and adults risked their lives on a tram sausage - a twisted hose of the air brake air line. This trip allowed you to travel like a hare without buying a ticket. Today, traveling on a tram brings nostalgia for the past to passengers, gives unforgettable sensations, immersing them in the atmosphere of the works of M.A. Bulgakov and M.M. Zoshchenko. Tram Travel Day, which is celebrated on November 20, encourages you to make your next trip in a trailer with rattling wheels. An unforgettable flavor for moving through the city streets was given not only by the trill of the bell, with the help of which the driver signaled cars and pedestrians, but also by communication with the conductor. Due to the nature of his service, he was forced to deal with free riders, dropping them off at bus stops, and separating rowdy passengers, acting as a kind of arbiter. Dramas played out inside the tram: people quarreled and made up, fell in love and got to know each other. The daily trip to work and back along the same route made the passengers practically relatives who treated the conductor as a close person. The ticket taker became an advisor and friend for people with heartache, suffering from loneliness, at a crossroads, or facing everyday difficulties. Today, despite the pace of development of science and technology, the tram remains one of the most reliable and popular types of transport, which does not harm the environment and does not require high maintenance costs. The red trailer with yellow lathing is a historical symbol of Lisbon. The St. Petersburg tram is part of the cultural code of the Northern capital. An equally extensive network and long routes are available in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Magnitogorsk... Modern trains reach speeds from 24 to 75 km/h, carrying thousands of passengers every day. On November 20th, Tram Travel Day calls for you to get into a carriage and travel along one of the available routes.
On November 20, Rus' celebrated Fedotov Day - the day of remembrance of the Christian martyr, who over the centuries became popular and acquired its own traditions. This holiday mixed Orthodox and pagan beliefs. In Rus', it was believed that on Fedotov Day, new roads appeared - the frost bound the rivers with the first ice, on which it would soon be possible to walk on it without fear. Because of this, the common people called him Ledostav, although in some regions other names were in use - Fedot Ledostav, Fedot Korchemnik and Kingfisher. Theodotus lived in the 3rd century in Ancyra of Galatia. He was a righteous Christian, ran a hotel, and started a family. Theodotus, who later became known as Ancyra, led a righteous life. He fasted, often turned to God with prayers, did not refuse the suffering, and helped in trouble. Theodotus often gave shelter to Christians, visited fellow believers who found themselves in prison, and buried those who had left the mortal world. He spoke a lot and often about God. The innkeeper's speeches led many pagans to Christianity. One day he caught seven dead virgins from the sea, who accepted martyrdom for their faith. Theodotus took care to bury each of them. It is also believed that he had a special gift - healing diseases after laying hands on a person. Many in his hometown knew Theodotus himself well and had heard about his miracles, so the righteous Christian was one of the first to come under attack when the Roman Empire became bitter against his co-religionists. While Theodotus led his quiet life in Ancyra, the Roman emperor Diocletian began persecuting Christians. He decided to send Theotekn, the governor, whose cruelty became the talk of the town, to the innkeeper’s hometown. Many Christians immediately abandoned their homes and left Ankyra as soon as they learned about the new city ruler and how terrible his reputation was. Theoteknos, after arriving in the city, first of all demanded that all townspeople worship idols and take part in sacrificial rites. Christians remaining in the city found themselves in mortal danger. Those who refused to bow their heads before the idols faced severe torture and inevitable death. Informers began to operate in the city, who, without a twinge of conscience, reported to Theoteknos about Christians who had gone underground. Theodotus, despite the mortal danger, helped his fellow believers. He gave shelter to Christians and hid them from persecutors, entered prisons to morally support those condemned to death. The informers did not forget about the innkeeper. Theodotus was reported to Diocletian's governor. By order of Theoteknos, the owner of the inn was taken into custody, brought to the palace and subjected to severe torture, demanding that he renounce his faith. The executioners failed to break the will of Theodotus. She did not renounce God, for which she was executed. In Rus', Saint Theodotus was christened Fedot. He was considered the patron of women's needlework. Long winter evenings lay ahead, which women preferred to while away working on sewing, at a spinning wheel or a loom. It was believed that it was best to start on Fedotov’s day. Then the threads will not get tangled, the stitches will be even, and the work itself will be smooth. It was on this day that in some regions of Rus' orders were given to the most talented needlewomen. For a fee, they began to sew, weave and knit. Fedotov Day announced the imminent start of the ice fishing season. Rivers and lakes were frozen. Travelers could also slowly get ready. People said that “the rivers were covered with ice - the winter roads were open.” Although one should not forget about caution. In the first days of the freeze-up, the ice was too thin. The peasants closely watched their children, who were eager to be the first to try out new paths. The first ice was also very slippery. You had to walk on it carefully. On Fedotov Day, adults entertained children with riddles about ice. The fishermen also tried not to take unnecessary risks. Transparent ice that covered bodies of water in dry, frosty weather was considered the strongest. In places with great depth it was stronger, but people tried not to walk above rapids at all at this time. In places with fast currents, one should step on the ice only after severe frosts, which reliably bound the reservoir.

Orthodox holidays November 20:
The Nikolo-Ugreshsky Monastery is active today; one of the Orthodox holidays of the Appearance of the Icon of the Mother of God, “The Leaping of the Baby,” is associated with its glorious past. The date of the holiday is November 20 according to the new style or November 7 according to the old style. It was on this day that the monastery found the miraculous icon back in 1795. The plot of the icon was formed more than a thousand years ago in Byzantium and is one of the traditional ones. The Baby Jesus, sitting on his mother's lap, is depicted in a moment of joyful, playful animation. His head and hand gesture turn to the bowed face of the Virgin Mary. There is a lot of earthly, lyrical, humaneness in this image. Apparently, this is why it was easier for parishioners to turn their secret prayers and requests to the icon. The icon of the Leaping Baby began to be revered by women preparing for childbirth or wishing to achieve motherhood. The rumor about the miraculous power of the image spread far beyond the monastery and was confirmed more than once. Thousands of women prayed for the health of their newborns, for a happy conception, for the safe birth of babies into the world. The beneficial influence of the icon did not go unnoticed. The Bolsheviks' rise to power became a bitter time for many holy monasteries. Monasteries and temples were destroyed and looted. Many relics and spiritual values were lost. This sad fate did not spare the wonderful icon with the playing Savior and the sadly smiling Mother of God. The image was lost, and there was not a single thread leading to its finding. But this shrine was destined to return to people again and further spread its miraculous power. In 2003, the ministers of the revived Nikolo-Ugreshsky Monastery learned about the donation of an unknown woman, whose name remained secret. Her gift was an icon, the description of which was very similar to the missing image. It was decided to place the newfound shrine “The Leaping Baby” in the place of the lost icon. When the image of the playing baby Jesus and the Virgin Mary was in its original place, the last doubts of all those present disappeared. It became obvious that the icon had returned to its native monastery and its proper place. In the Orthodox tradition, one should turn to the revered image shortly before giving birth; a special prayer service is served with akathists to the Mother of God. The intercession of the Mother of God will protect the process of childbirth from negativity and protect the health of mother and baby. In front of the “Leaping Baby” icon, it is correct to pray any prayer addressed to the Mother of God, with a pure heart and deep faith in the soul.
