Holidays 25 may
According to statistics, every year approximately 8 million boys and girls disappear without a trace in the world, and per day - it’s scary to imagine - 22 thousand! And this is only officially recorded data. The reasons for the disappearance are different: some guys run away from home on their own, not finding understanding among loved ones, some leave home due to a dysfunctional family situation, others become victims of kidnapping.
On May 25, a holiday is held annually that unites residents of the entire continent. This is Africa Day, which is celebrated throughout the territory. Alongside this holiday, the Week of Solidarity with the Peoples of the Non-Self-Governing Territories takes place from 25 May to 31 May. Both of these holidays were adopted after the decision of the UN General Assembly. The appearance of this unique holiday was preceded by uprisings against the colonialists that broke out on the continent shortly after the end of World War II. Thus began the process of decolonization of the African continent. The first, largest uprising began on about. Madagascar and this became the starting point for other territories. Soon after this, the liberation movement began to spread rapidly, so that already in 1960, as many as 13 African states were liberated from the colonialists, who hastened to declare their independence and unite. In 1963, representatives of free African countries gathered in Addis Ababa, where they became members of the Organization of African Unity. Within a few months, 30 more liberated states joined them. In 2002, this organization was abolished by the UN decision, and the African Union arose in its place. At the same time, the birth of the holiday, African Liberation Day, was proclaimed. For modern residents of Africa, this holiday has become a reminder of what their ancestors had to endure so that they could now live in true freedom and have the right to make independent choices. So their victory and common efforts became a great beginning of the transformation of colonial Africa. Africa Day is a holiday that is stormy and emotional. On this day, celebrations are held, songs are played everywhere, and people have a lot of fun. This holiday is the pride and memory of every African, so Africa Day is celebrated even by those whom fate has thrown far from their homeland.
In Russia, there is a widespread tradition of celebrating holidays associated with any profession or type of activity. Along with other professional holidays, philologists also have their own. And it is celebrated more widely because the celebration falls on the day after the Day of Slavic Culture and Literature. So on May 25th Philologist's Day is celebrated. This date binds together figures of literature, linguistics, linguists, librarians, journalists, etc. Namely, those people whose professional activities are in one way or another connected with the word. Philology, through language and literature, studies the culture and history of both one specific people and world culture as a whole. Until about the 17th century, it was part of science, which combined not only verbal art, but also history, philosophy, and cultural values. Then in the 17th century it emerged as a separate science in Western Europe. In Russia, the term “philology” began to be used with the advent of the works of Lomonosov and Trediakovsky. And it became more widespread with the beginning of the publication of the journal “Philological Notes” by A. Khovansky. Until the mid-19th century, philological science was called verbal science in Russia. And only in 1850 the Faculty of Historical and Literary Sciences of St. Petersburg University was renamed the Faculty of History and Philology. It is customary to celebrate Philologist's Day in universities, schools, and library complexes. The holiday is not official, so events dedicated to the defense of dissertations, seminars and lectures are planned on this date, the topic of which is directly related to current issues in the science of philology. The most interesting and solemn celebration of this date is planned by philology students. Undoubtedly, the science of philology is worthy of celebration. After all, it is inextricably fused with the cultural values of the people and carries within itself the most ancient knowledge about their immortal soul. And people who associate themselves with it deserve special respect.
Medical statistics show that almost a quarter of the world's population has diseases or disorders of the thyroid gland (thyroid gland). It is she who performs a huge job in our body, maintains hormonal balance, regulates metabolism, and participates in the formation of nerve cells. Many simply do not know how their thyroid gland works and have never had it checked. On May 25, all residents of our planet have a unique chance to undergo a free consultation with an endocrinologist (in many large cities they hold free events) and learn more about problems associated with the thyroid gland. More than 10% of the world's inhabitants suffer from thyroid diseases, and do not even suspect it. To draw public attention to this problem, in 2009, the European Organization of Thyroid Diseases proposed celebrating May 25 every year, a day dedicated to the health of our endocrinological system. The idea was picked up in many medical communities around the world. This holiday is celebrated in Russia, Ukraine, Asia, North and Latin America. This event is celebrated by everyone who is associated with thyroid diseases, i.e.: - patients directly; - medical personnel (therapists, endocrinologists, physiologists, support staff); - researchers studying thyroid problems; - students of medical schools. This celebration began to be celebrated for the first time in 2009. The main idea of this event is to convey to the entire population the need to undergo an annual checkup with an endocrinologist, to increase information about thyroid diseases and the consequences to which they lead. For this purpose, for educational purposes, many medical institutions, schools, and kindergartens organize lectures and seminars on this problem. One important and useful tradition of this day is to organize charity dinners; the money collected at this event goes to funds to help the sick. 1) The thyroid gland produces many hormones, including those responsible for storing iodine in the body and for the absorption of phosphorus and calcium into bone tissue (these substances protect human bones from premature wear). 2) One of the most important functions of the thyroid gland is regulating metabolism and cell regeneration.3) The thyroid gland of a newborn weighs 2-3 g, of an adult - 15-30 g.4) Improper functioning of the thyroid gland can lead to obesity or dystrophy.5) In appearance, the thyroid gland resembles a butterfly or the letter "H".6 ) 10% of the adult population of the world has nodular disorders of the thyroid gland, up to 30% of the population of Russia and Central Asia suffer from an increase in the size of the thyroid gland due to a lack of iodine in the body, 8-10% of elderly people experience a deterioration in the functioning of the thyroid gland. Today, more than 90% of all thyroid diseases are associated with iodine deficiency in the body. They can be prevented - it is enough to consume the daily intake of iodine every day, i.e. 150-200 mg. Remember, most thyroid problems are not only curable, but also preventable.
This holiday arose as a tribute to the memory of the English writer Douglas Adams in the year of his death in 2001. Saddened by the tragic event of May 11, fans of creativity proposed to celebrate “Towel Day” in two weeks, namely on May 25. And although the “Binary Freedom” forum itself, where a post was published on May 14 with a call to pay tribute to the genius of science fiction works, did not last long, the initiative was picked up in many countries around the world. An entire chapter of one of the writer’s most famous books, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” is dedicated to the towel. First published in 1979, the book can be called a literary phenomenon: it has been repeatedly reprinted in millions of copies, and is included in the top of various ratings and lists of the best works. The secret of success: written with a fair amount of subtle British humor and social sarcasm, it attracts not only fans of the fantasy genre, but also tries to give all readers an answer to the eternal question: what is the meaning of life? This book has a special cult following, because even a towel, such a simple thing that every person has in everyday life, is presented here not just as a practical item, but as a psychological ability. Any tourist, even an intergalactic one, who keeps his towel deserves respect. As the author himself deserves respect, he gave many interesting works, the most popular of which became the basis for computer games and films. All fans of creativity on this special day are encouraged to carry a towel with them at all times, so as to be sure to attract the attention of those who are not in the “topic”. By telling the uninitiated about this holiday, they are given a chance to learn about amazing worlds and characters, having met whom, rarely anyone remains indifferent. Social networks, forums, just conversations with friends on the topic of towels and literature - all this helps to increase the popularity and fame of the author’s work. In many countries, on this day, screenings of the most successful film adaptations, quests and competitions are held. The legendary inscription “Don't panic”, understood by fans all over the world, on the towel is the maximum respect that fans of creativity can show. After reading the book, it may become your favorite too.
On May 25, one of the most environmentally friendly holiday dates is celebrated on the Baikal coast - Nerpenka Day. Seals, also called seals, squirrels, are the young of the nerpa (Baikal seal). This holiday was first held in 2003 on the territory of Irkutsk. Initially, it was celebrated only in the regions, but later it gained wide popularity, and as a result it was included in the list of environmentally important dates in many Russian corners. Nerpenka Day is a children's and youth project, and therefore most of the participants in the event are minor residents of the country. The main goal of the holiday is to protect the seal and its calf. Indeed, recently the hunt for these animals has increased rapidly. This feature is due to the huge demand for fur products. The initiators of organizing the holiday were Irkutsk volunteers from a local teenage club. The founders of the project are pursuing an important goal. First of all, this is to attract public interest to the issue of reducing the Baikal seal population. This phenomenon is due to many factors: the consumption of whites by predatory animals, an early, too warm spring that deforms their burrows, poaching activities and pollution of the animals’ habitat - Lake Baikal. Also, the list of main tasks includes instilling in young people a caring attitude towards natural beauty, empathy and love for our smaller brothers. On this festive date, thematic events are organized in many cities of Russia, various competitions are held, and exhibitions of crafts and drawings are held. Mostly, all events dedicated to the date take place in Buryatia, Irkutsk and the region, as well as other Siberian regions. Despite this, this event plays a significant role for all environmentalists in Russia, since seals are not the only living creatures that suffer from poaching activities.
Bob, mohawk, bob, platform, garcon, half-box, Canadian, page, cascade, sesson... All these are the names of women's and men's haircuts. The hairdresser dyes the hair and gives it a certain shape; daily styling and hairstyle creation are left to the client. The desire to change and surprise others by experimenting with their appearance is inherent in many people. And if adherents of traditions collect their hair in a ponytail or braid it, then creative thinkers show flights of fancy and build real Babel towers on their heads. All connoisseurs of a creative approach to life celebrate the Holiday of Hairstyle Freedom on May 25th. As you know, people are greeted by their clothes and escorted by their minds. By clothing we mean a person’s appearance - an image in which hairstyle plays an important role. A successful haircut and styling gives a person charm and creates an individual style. But once a year, on May 25, you can allow yourself to break stereotypes and experiment with the appearance that is familiar to others. Rebels and fidgets, daredevils and adventurers, all creatively minded people happily celebrate the funny Holiday of Hairstyle Freedom. Their new fashionable or not so fashionable look, created with the help of hair, is often a way of shocking others and expressing their own “I”. There are people who celebrate the holiday of freedom of hairstyles not only on May 25th. According to tradition, the Russian model, actress and writer Lena Lenina annually creates another masterpiece on her head for the opening day of the Cannes Film Festival. Shocking hairstyles up to two meters high, distinguished by their unusual shape and hair color, are brought to the attention of journalists and ordinary people crowding around the red carpet. E. Lenina's stylists experiment with images, creating real masterpieces from her hair and hairpieces: towers and cocoons, balls and curls. A variety of accessories add creativity to hairstyles - from woven cherry branches and spiders to picture frames and chandeliers. Model hairdressers who take part in professional competitions of various sizes are ready to experiment with their appearance 24/7. Those who are not ready to spend 8 hours creating a hair fountain or a giant heart on their head are advised to take a closer look at simple and less labor-intensive hairstyle options. Today, unusual combinations of long hair and shaved areas, torn and graduated strands, and hair in lilac, green and pink colors are in fashion. Bright and funny, extravagant, but laconic in essence, unusual hairstyles with flashy elements are not just created on the head, but photographed and posted on May 25 on social networks. The day can be spent in different ways: someone goes to a beauty salon, relying on the skill and taste of the hairdresser, and someone independently builds something on their head that will stun the imagination of those around them. Regardless of how you decide to celebrate the Hairstyle Freedom Festival, the implementation of your creative ideas will go off with a bang and will give people a smile and bright impressions.
Frenchwoman Marie Anne Adelaide Lenormand was one of the most famous fortunetellers of the 19th century. The fortune teller, whose services even Napoleon turned to, used palmistry and numerology, crystal balls and Tarot cards. Their first deck, named after the legendary owner, appeared in 1853. However, according to historical sources, Tarot began to be used both in meditative practices and for predicting the future in Europe and America at the end of the 18th century. The assortment of modern soothsayers includes not only the Lenormand deck. Fortune tellers use the Tarot of Papus, Eltina, Rider-Waite, Thoth, Osho Zen, Madame Endora and other types of cards. One of the professionals, American Dan Elder, decided to draw public attention to this ancient tool for predicting the future in an unusual way. In 2003, the fortune teller established World Tarot Day, which is celebrated annually on May 25. Florence is considered to be the birthplace of the cards originally used for the game. The first two Tarot decks were presented in 1440 as a gift to the famous military leader and patron of the arts, Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta. His "trionfi" consisted of 78 cards of the major and minor arcana. The latter differed in one of four suits. In the Tarot they are called wands, swords, cups and pentacles. Researchers compare these suits with traditional card suits, believing that Tarots of the late Middle Ages are the predecessors of modern playing decks. The Tarocci deck is considered to be the oldest deck that has survived to this day. Created in the middle of the 15th century. for Duke Filippo Mario Visconti and his son-in-law Francesco Sforza, the 22 major arcana were made in the Renaissance style and hand-painted with gilding. Tarocci are considered the prototype of modern 78-sheet decks. This number of cards is contained in the Osho Zen meditative Tarot, created in 1995 by followers of the teachings of an Indian guru, and Manara, drawn in 2000 by the Italian artist Maurilio Manara for love predictions, and in Vargo, Simbolon and Crowley. The variety of designs and symbols used influences the divinatory aspect and determines the meaning of the cards. A lot in their interpretation depends on the operator - a professional tarot reader. However, this multifaceted and universal tool is available for fortune telling not only to specialists. The creator of World Tarot Day believes that the deck can be used by anyone for meditation and intuitive enlightenment without intermediaries. That's why World Tarot Day's motto is: "The light you seek can be found in your own lantern."

Epiphan's Day, still called Ryabinovka, is popularly celebrated on May 25 (May 12 according to the old calendar style). The name is partly related to the name of Saint Epiphanius of Cyprus, whose memory is celebrated by the Orthodox Church on this date. Epiphanius lived in Phenicia (modern Lebanon) in the 4th century and was educated. Having met the monk Lucian, he converted to Christianity: he lived in a monastery, prayed, and copied books. Then he headed into the desert for solitude, where a monastery was subsequently created. Years later, Epiphanius was elevated to the rank of bishop. Until the end of his days, the saint helped the disadvantaged and supported the Christian faith in his parishioners. People called the day Ryabinovka, because by this date the mountain ash began to bloom. It was revered among the people on a par with birch, viburnum and willow. Residents believed that it was a talisman against various misfortunes. On this day, girls dressed in scarlet outfits came to the rowan tree and asked to protect their shelter from fire and fire. Rowan was considered a symbol of prosperity and fertility, so the newlyweds planted it in the yard after the wedding. Brides used rowan berries for weddings, as decoration and a talisman against the evil eye. Also, a rowan branch helped out the traveler, helping him find the way to his native land. However, it was forbidden to simply break a rowan tree, otherwise troubles could befall the family. On Epiphan's Day they also honored the water lily, popularly called “overcome grass.” They said that it contained magical properties and was able to protect against adversity, but the water lily could bring trouble to the offender if he was treated rudely. Peasants used the plant as a talisman against evil spirits, and healers made love potions from water lily flowers. They did not bring white flowers into living quarters, believing that this would cause the cattle to perish. There was a popular belief that mermaids turn into water lilies in the morning. It was forbidden to cut them, otherwise, by damaging the stem, one could destroy the mermaid and incur the wrath of the mermaid family. The flowers had to be plucked abruptly by the stem, but at a certain period of the day and always whispering an affectionate address to her. If on Epifan's day the sunrise was observed in burgundy shades, summer was expected with rare rains, but a cloudy day promised a rainy summer. The flowering of rowan on this day foreshadowed a good harvest of flax crops. A fox running into the village meant that trouble was about to happen. Evening blue clouds predicted a change in weather the next day.

Music acts as a stimulus for creativity, is a source of positive emotions and a means of communication. Archeology professor Stephen Milen argues in his 2005 book The Singing Neanderthals that early hominids had a manipulative-mimetic musical communication system during the early stages of human development. This means that the ancestors of Homo sapiens who inhabited Eurasia were able to make melodic sounds with their voices 130 thousand years ago. Today, both opera, operetta and pop artists, as well as ordinary people, master the art of vocals. They sing in karaoke and on the concert stage, standing under the shower in the bathroom or under their lover’s balcony. National Sing Out Day appeared in the United States as a holiday that encouraged people to cast aside inhibitions and demonstrate the strength of the diaphragm and vocal cords. Over time, its popularity spread beyond the country, making the celebration international. Today, May 25th, an unusual Sing Louder Day is celebrated all over the world. The holiday encourages people to unleash their creative potential and demonstrate their talents. Singing gives pleasure and aesthetic pleasure. Research has shown that vocal training is also beneficial for health. They reduce anxiety levels, relieve depression, increase immunity, activate brain activity, and help fight snoring and sleep apnea. "The soul sings!" - says a person who rejoices and glows with happiness. In this state, the production of cortisol, one of the stress hormones, practically stops. Therefore, the well-fed and satisfied Wolf in the cartoon “Once Upon a Time There Was a Dog” relaxed and said, sitting under the table: “I’ll sing now!” As a result of vocal training, not only the soul, but also the body rests. Singing for 10-15 minutes a day helps fight insomnia by normalizing sleep and wakefulness. Vocal exercises allow you to better control body balance, the functioning of the speech apparatus and the swallowing process. Therefore, scientists recommend singing as one of the methods of treating Parkinson's disease. Regularly listening to lullabies before bedtime prepares the newborn's brain for speech activity. Singing lessons at school are a great way to develop communication and language skills. In honor of Sing Out Day, it is customary to attend vocal master classes, choir concerts and karaoke. Sign up for a talent show or open mic night on May 25th. Loud singing is a great way to celebrate any holiday in the company of like-minded people, share your love and joy with the whole world. Entertain the crowd by feeling like Michael Jackson or Frank Sentara, enjoying the applause and shouts of "Bravo!"
Orthodox holidays on May 25:
On May 25, the Orthodox Church celebrates the Day of Remembrance of the Hieromartyr Hermogenes, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus'. The saint's Christian convictions and steadfastness of faith became an example of high spirituality. His bright and significant personality had a colossal influence on the historical events of Russia, which was experiencing the hardships and confusion of the troubled times. Ermogen (in the world Ermolai) was born into a family of Don Cossacks around 1530. His church service began in Kazan, where the future patriarch accepted the rank of parish priest. Purity of faith and love of knowledge led a simple clergyman to the head of the department of the Kazan and Astrakhan Metropolis. In his new rank, Hermogenes launched extensive missionary activities, converting Muslims and pagans to Christianity. The saint's successes were so noticeable that in 1606 he was elected patriarch of the Moscow throne. The years of Hermogen's patriarchate became a cruel test for all of Russia, which entered the period of Troubles. The saint, despite his advanced years, managed to become a stronghold for the entire Orthodox people. He addressed accusatory speeches to False Dmitry II, who approached Moscow with an army. By his command, the monastery granaries were opened for ordinary people suffering from the ensuing famine. He inspires the Orthodox to resist the Polish-Lithuanian interventionists who want to establish Catholicism and union in Russia. The liberation of his native land from foreign invaders and the call for the establishment of a tsar of Russian origin on the throne became the work of life for Hermogenes. When the Polish leaders, having started a fire in Moscow, took refuge within the walls of the Kremlin, they overthrew the patriarch and placed him under arrest in the Chudov Monastery. Meanwhile, the militia, led by Minin and Pozharsky, had gained strength and began a siege of the Kremlin. The Poles understood the power of the saint’s word, and forced him by all means to induce the militia to retreat from the city. But Hermogenes, showing apostolic courage, resisted both the persuasion and threats of the invaders. The elder’s torment in captivity lasted for more than nine months. From lack of food and water, and from inhuman conditions in the dungeons, the patriarch died in February 1612. The death of the courageous saint, who had not lost the power of faith, became a terrible blow for the militia, but also an impetus for the decisive battle. Already in October 1612, the Kremlin was liberated from the Polish-Lithuanian invaders. Hieromartyr Hermogenes was laid to rest in the Chudov Monastery. Half a century later, his relics, which turned out to be incorrupt, were transferred to the Assumption Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin, where they remain to this day.
