Holidays 18 march
One of the memorable holidays in our time is March 18, the Day of the reunification of Crimea with Russia, celebrated since 2014. 1991, collapse of the USSR. On a contractual basis, Ukraine took Crimea under its rule. 2014, political collapse, civil coup, the government of Crimea decided to submit a request to the Russian President for reunification with the Russian Federation. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (President of the Russian Federation) made a positive decision. On March 18 of that year in Moscow, an agreement was signed with the administration of Crimea. After 3 days, the law on accession was issued. On March 15, 2015, the premiere of a documentary film entitled “Crimea. The Way to the Homeland” by Andrei Kondrashov based on the script by Olga Demina, which tells about those events. This film received an award: TEFI Special Prize for understanding modern history. These lands have been primordially Russian since the years of military glory. Since then, Crimeans have been rooted in the Russian Federation, therefore, every year, this still “young” holiday will be celebrated, each time on a large scale on all the streets of the republic! Banners, flags, balloons and fireworks, performances by famous artists and congratulations from the president, every March 18th of the year. On March 3, 2015, this holiday was approved as a day off for celebration on the territory of the republic, in accordance with Law No. 80-ZRK/2015. It was proposed to declare this day an all-Russian holiday. No one will forget how Crimea, Sevastopol and Moscow celebrated this day for the first time. Large-scale processions along the main streets. Tens of thousands of people united, everyone had an unforgettable smile on their faces, everyone sang the anthem of Sevastopol and rejoiced like children. Everyone celebrated until late at night. It all ended with performances by Russian Federation stars and fireworks. This celebration will always be associated with victory.
March 18 marks the Day of the Paris Commune - the first revolutionary government of the rebellious working masses during the events of 1871, which existed in Paris for 72 days. It was formed a few months after the defeat of the French army led by Napoleon III near Sedan during the Franco-Prussian War. The failure of the French revealed the entire essence of the Bonapartist monarchical system and completely exposed the betrayal of the national interests of the state by its government. As a result, on September 4, 1870, an uprising began in the capital, imperialism fell, and France again became a republic. A month before these events, the National Guard was formed to defend Paris from the Prussian army, the first participants of which were small entrepreneurs, office workers, etc. At the same time, representatives of the working class, fleeing hunger in the besieged city, began to voluntarily join the troops, soon forming a large part of the army. But in fact, a few days later, the confrontation for the defense of the capital turned into serious disagreements between two social classes: the workers and the bourgeoisie. In October of this and January of the following year, mass armed uprisings took place in Paris demanding the proclamation of the Commune, but the government army managed to suppress them. After France established a truce with Prussia, unrest continued in the capital, which later developed into a revolution. As a result of the uprisings, self-government was formed, which lasted 72 days. The commune was headed by members of the anarchist and socialist movements. The leaders of both parties declared the Paris Commune to be the main example of state power of the international proletariat. And, despite the fact that the revolution was suppressed at the end of May, Commune Day became a sign of the victory of the working class in the struggle to govern the country. This event went down in world history as the realization of the first uprising of the proletariat. Until 1917, the holiday was celebrated in Russia at prohibited meetings of the working class and revolutionary societies. For the first time, this revolutionary day began to be celebrated after the central committee of the International Organization for Assistance to Fighters of the Revolution (MOPR) in 1923 proclaimed the Day of the Paris Commune as its official holiday.
The world's first manned flight into Earth orbit, which took place on April 12, 1961, opened a new era in the history of space exploration. Yuri Gagarin accomplished a real feat, setting off with a smile on his face to meet the unknown. Almost 4 years later, the second most important event occurred - a man left the Polet-2 ship into airless space. This was done on March 18, 1965 by 31-year-old Alexey Leonov, who responded to the call sign “Almaz-2”. The ship's commander was pilot Pavel Belyaev. He was considered the most experienced pilot among those included in the first cosmonaut squad, but had unsatisfactory health indicators and was in line for expulsion. Yuri Gagarin personally insisted on Belyaev’s participation (call sign “Almaz-1”) in the flight. Leonov spent 12 minutes and 9 seconds in airless space. The flight is still considered one of the most difficult and intense in the history of Soviet cosmonautics. After him, superstitious pilots stopped taking call signs with the names of stones. The difficulties that arose during the execution of tasks do not detract from the enormity of the event. Therefore, March 18 is celebrated annually as Human Spacewalk Day. The competition between the two superpowers during the Cold War was manifested not only in the participation of the Soviet Union and the United States in the arms race. America and the Soviet Union invested enormous resources in the development of space technology. Each country fought for primacy in the development of airless space. Having come to terms with Yuri Gagarin's flight, the United States decided to take revenge by sending astronauts on April 28, 1965 on an important mission - to perform a spacewalk. But the USSR managed to get ahead of the Americans, thwarting their plans. Leonov's exit into space was to be carried out through a 2-meter training gateway. The tightness of the inflated original, suspended from the side of the ship, was checked on the eve of departure on Earth for 24 hours. The soldier guarding the facility was bored and playing with the latch with which the airlock was secured to the winch. From the next click, the camera for going into space broke and burst. The designers and engineers of Polet-2 urgently installed a training airlock on board. The launch of the spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome and Leonov’s exit into airless space took place as usual. The pilot soared in space, moving away from the ship at a distance of up to 5 meters, and even made several somersaults. Belyaev, who was watching his partner from the ship, reached the control center: “Everything has been done according to plan. Almaz-2 is preparing for entry.” But then the unexpected happened - Leonov’s spacesuit swelled from excess pressure, becoming very rigid. The pilot could not enter the airlock feet first, as required by the instructions. Without reporting the emergency to the Mission Control Center, Leonov reduced the pressure by 2 times - to 0.27 atmospheres. There was no time to wait for a response from the Mission Control Center - in 5 minutes the ship was supposed to fall into the shadow of the Earth and plunge into pitch darkness for an hour. The suit deflated slightly and the astronaut squeezed into the airlock head first. To get on the ship, Almaz-2 needed to turn around in a narrow compartment. This maneuver increased Leonov's pulse to 190 beats per minute, and his body temperature rose so much that the pilot could suffer heatstroke. Without waiting for the hatch to be closed and the airlock to be completely sealed, the cosmonaut took off his pressure helmet, once again violating the instructions. 1.5 hours of experiment in outer space cost Leonov a loss of 6 kg of weight. The episode with the spacesuit was not the last in a series of tragic accidents. During the descent to Earth, the shooting of the pipe occurred very abruptly - a strong impact spun the ship in 2 planes. The braking motor did not turn on automatically; the stabilization and spatial orientation systems failed. Belyaev decided to land Polet-2 manually. The oxygen concentration in the cabin was 6 times higher than the norm, so the slightest spark from the operation of the instruments could cause a fire. The descent in the cabin without the help of automation was practically uncontrollable. Instead of the Kazakh steppes, the ship landed on March 19 in the taiga of the Kama region. The astronauts, having climbed out of the cabin, were greeted not by the MCC workers, but by the Ural frosts. Leonov and Belyaev lit a fire to keep warm while special teams and volunteer skiers searched for them throughout the taiga. The helicopter that discovered the pilots could not take them on board due to the lack of a suitable site. The cosmonauts spent the night from March 19 to 20 before meeting with the search engines in the taiga forest. The heroes received a warm welcome in Perm and honors and awards in Moscow. Speaking to the state commission with a report on the results of the flight, A. Leonov made the shortest report in history: “You can live and work in outer space.”
Recycling waste, the result of human activity, allows us to preserve natural resources and show concern for the ecology of the planet. Every year, Russian residents throw out about 70 million tons of household waste, which is taken to landfills and landfills. Packaging waste and sending it to enterprises for processing and producing recyclable materials is on the agenda in many countries around the world, whose citizens are concerned about the state of the environment. Since 2018, March 18 has been celebrated as Global Recycling Day. It is intended to draw attention to one of the most pressing problems - the pollution of the oceans and the bowels of the earth, the creation of unfavorable conditions for the existence of flora and fauna on the planet. Household waste is buried in landfills or burned in ovens, which is not a rational use of most waste. This applies to both metals and wood, which are available for recycling, as well as other materials. These include asphalt pavement and petroleum products, plastics and polymers, glass and construction waste, and textiles for clothing. All of them are subject to recycling - processing and reuse. The production of a paper bag requires 4 times more energy and resources than a plastic bag. Development of the petrochemical industry in the mid-twentieth century. led to a real boom and fashion for plastic, which quickly became one of the serious environmental problems. Disposable bags, PET bottles, dishes and tires take tens and hundreds of years to decompose in the ground. And the inhabitants of the planet throw out about 300 billion tons of plastic waste every year. This is why up to 70% of used PET has been recycled in Europe for many years. It is used to produce polyester fibers for synthetic clothing, carpets, car upholstery, etc. Collected glass bottles become raw materials from which mirrors, windows and dishes, glass wool and glass concrete are made all over the world. After melting, rubber products are used to make mats, seals and other accessories. Electronics are disassembled to extract precious and rare earth metals, which, after cleaning, are used in new devices. Organic waste from household waste becomes a source for the production of fertilizers, feed (bone meal) and other products. Modern methods of waste recycling not only help to save natural resources, but also provide significant economic benefits. Recycling reduces emissions of more than 700 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere per year. Recycling most waste is cheaper than producing products from natural raw materials and materials. Global Recycling Day promotes the development of environmental culture among the population, promotes the rules of waste collection, including their packaging by type to simplify the recycling process. This is the main goal of Global Recycling Day, which is celebrated annually on March 18 in Russia and other countries.
March 18, 1931 is a significant day for men all over the world, because on this day mass production of electric razors started in the United States. A convenient and safe device has significantly simplified daily personal care, including when traveling. Every year, March 18th is considered the birthday of the electric razor. As everyone learned from advertising, there is nothing better than Gillette for a man. However, Jacob Schick never agreed with this. Although in the 20s of the last century the production of disposable razors of this brand had already been established, this method of shaving required hot water, a special soap solution and a steady hand. In some circumstances, as Mr. Chic noted from his own experience, all this luxury is inaccessible or inconvenient, namely: • in military service; • in field conditions; • in the Arctic Circle; • during illnesses, hand injuries, concussions, etc. . Therefore, despite the Gillette traditions, Chic began to think about the method of dry shaving. He decided to adapt an electric motor for this task, despite the fact that in those years standard electric motors were the size of a modern TV. In 1923, he patented a compact motor and developed a design concept for the future device. It was a combination of static and movable knives in a safe head with slots for bristles. The first prototype of an electric razor was released in 1927 - it was a bulky device that required both hands to use. Chic continued to work on improving it, but until the end of his life he never created a device that could be used to shave with one hand. However, even these bulky, clunky and inconvenient electric shavers were gaining fame and popularity, although they were quite expensive - about 25 dollars. By the way, these days those first rare models cost collectors at auctions from $25,000, so the capitalization for a household appliance is quite impressive. The further evolution of the electric razor took place without the participation of Schick: shortly before his death in 1937, he sold the rights to the patent, and significant improvements in the design of electric shavers were made by Philips specialists. Through their efforts, the rotating knife acquired three blades instead of one, then the number of heads doubled, then tripled, and now they are often “floating” for more thorough processing of the skin. Gradually, the device became more and more convenient and accessible, reaching its peak of popularity in the second half of the 20th century. By the way, in the Soviet Union, the production of electric shavers began already in 1956 at the Kharkov Electrical Equipment Plant, here the USSR was not ahead of the rest. Today, thanks to the efforts of dozens of engineers and inventors, the electric razor is a compact, safe and simple device with which every man can get rid of stubble completely in a matter of minutes. In the modern electric razor market, the leadership is shared between the giant companies Philips and Brown. The devices have become more technologically advanced and functional, equipped with batteries, displays, and additional functions. Over the years, the production of razors totals hundreds of millions of units, which means that the topic is relevant for most men who do not wear a beard. However, the birthday of the electric razor is not a public holiday in any country and there are no lavish celebrations on this occasion. However, this is a good reason to remember what a thorny and long path this small but so necessary device has gone through before entering the life of almost every adult man. And at the same time, once again thank technological progress for how it makes everyday life easier and simpler.
A night's rest reduces the brain's control over the body, allowing a person to relax and look into the future. A dream that occurred from Thursday to Friday, according to popular belief, is considered prophetic. It can promise both good events and troubles. Prophetic dreams come to people during the Holy Week, on the nights before Good Fridays and other celebrations, as well as on March 18, the Day of Prophetic Dreams. Esotericists claim that at night the soul leaves the body and goes on a journey through the astral world. In a dream, a person can experience unprecedented adventures, find an answer to a question that has been tormenting him for a long time, or see future events. Pagan and Christian holidays are closely related to nature and its rhythms. The change in the position of the Earth relative to the Sun affects all forms of life on our planet. So, the day before Epiphany, on the holiday itself, and a day later, its magnetic field deviates from the norm. With this fact, scientists explain the special indicators of acid-base balance, hydrogen potential and electrical conductivity of Epiphany water. Our ancestors, who lived in Rus' long before the advent of Christianity, knew about its acquisition of unusual properties on this day. It is logical to assume that on the days of religious holidays associated with natural cycles, not only the physical characteristics of phenomena change, but other processes that are invisible to the eye also occur. “Once on Epiphany evening the girls wondered,” begins one of his poems V. A. Zhukovsky. During large church celebrations, future events are learned in various ways, incl. and with the help of dreams, which these days become prophetic. This is interesting: Astrologers believe that at night, Aries, Virgo, Scorpio and Aquarius most often see future events. They explain this fact by the specific influence of the ruling planets. The stars heighten the emotionality, intuition and gift of foresight in representatives of these signs. Fasting in many religions is an asceticism that helps a person achieve spiritual enlightenment. Fasting, restrictions, and sometimes complete refusal of food and drink also helps cleanse the body. The fight against “bodily whims” in the form of physical austerities is practiced by Muslim and Christian believers. It is known that during the days of abstinence from eating, divine revelations came not only to the Old Testament prophets (Moses, Daniel and others), but also to ordinary people. Before achieving full enlightenment, Buddha Guatama fasted for 40 days. Pythagoras went the same amount of time without food to enhance his creative and mental abilities. The strictest period in Orthodoxy is Lent. Its start and end dates, like most church holidays, are different every year. However, March 18 is always one of the days of Lent. It is possible that this fact is responsible for the sharpening of intuition and the receipt of various revelations and prophecies in a dream. This is interesting: 5 of the 18 passengers of the famous Titanic gave up their tickets because the day before they dreamed about the ship sinking. A textbook example of prophecies is the table by D.I. Mendeleev. The great scientist saw her in a dream. To M.V. One night Lomonosov received a revelation about his father, washed up on the shore of an uninhabited island due to a shipwreck. It turned out that he really went fishing and never returned. Lomonosov described in detail the island from his dream, where his father’s body was later found. In order to increase the likelihood of receiving night prophecies, there are various rituals. Before going to bed, prayers or incantations are read, and the bedroom is fumigated with valerian root, wormwood, mint and other herbs. These rituals acquire special power on March 18 - the Day of Prophetic Dreams.
Ancient Greek Demeter, Roman Ceres, Scandinavian Frigg, Slavic Zhiva... These names were used by different peoples to call goddesses of fertility. At one stage of human development, agriculture was the main form of farming. Therefore, people paid special attention to establishing contacts with the forces of nature and the gods responsible for the weather and a rich harvest. Fertility in a broader sense is the ability to conceive and bear children. Women offered prayers for procreation to Ishtar, Juno, Isis, Lada, Beregini. March 18th is the Day of the Goddess of Fertility. Goddess of Fertility Day is celebrated shortly before the vernal equinox, which falls on March 20-21. At this time of year, nature awakens from sleep, the sun and earth give strength to her and her children - people. Therefore, on the eve of the spring equinox, it is appropriate to ask higher powers not only for a good harvest and prosperity, but also for replenishment of the family. In honor of the goddesses of fertility, who were revered in all ancient cultures, rituals with sacrifices were carried out and holidays were held. In honor of Aphrodite, architects erected temples where childless women came to pray, and sculptors created beautiful statues. In Iran, Anahita has long been honored, in Hinduism - Shakti, the wife of Shiva. In Nigeria they worshiped the goddess Oshun, in Haiti - Aido-Hwedo, in Mexico - Xochiquetzal, in Hawaii - Lono. All these higher entities were responsible for fertility and childbirth. Therefore, people performed rituals and prayers aimed at awakening the forces of Mother Nature, both in the surrounding world and in the female womb. If there are no objective reasons preventing conception, then it is worth trying to turn to one or more goddesses during the celebration of Goddess of Fertility Day. Faith works miracles, so a sincere prayer said on March 18 has a chance to be heard in heaven. Long before the advent of Christianity, the ancient Celts celebrated the goddess of fertility Ostara in March. Her attributes were a moon hare, personifying rebirth, and eggs, a symbol of life and procreation. They were painted and marked as signs of protection, wealth and fertility. Despite their pagan origins, today the rabbit and eggs are symbols of Christian holidays - the Annunciation and Easter. Therefore, by and large, it is unimportant to whom to turn on March 18 with a request for the birth of a child - to the ancients or Christian saints. Both pagan and Orthodox gods, like rituals, have the same roots and a common nature of origin. Prayers that are said on the Day of the Goddess of Fertility will help you conceive a child and give birth to healthy offspring. Our ancestors not only believed in this, but also received a lot of confirmation of the participation of higher powers in people’s lives. Therefore, on the path to motherhood you need to knock on all doors, incl. - invoke the mercy of the fertility goddesses on March 18 in honor of Goddess of Fertility Day.
Russian holidays - Tax Police Day (celebrated until 2003)
Internal troops are a special type of troops that are not part of the country's armed forces. But their task is no less dangerous and important than that of the army. Internal troops perform a huge number of important and dangerous tasks, including: • protection of public order; • ensuring the safety of citizens during emergency situations; • protection of dangerous goods and particularly important facilities; • protection from terrorism and terrorist acts; • internal security of the country. In addition, representatives of the explosives may be recruited to perform additional tasks. The official history of the internal troops begins back in 1921, when this term first appeared within the USSR. But if we talk about Belarus, then in 1918 in Vitebsk an explosives department was created by volunteers. It is not at all surprising that to honor the service performed, a holiday was founded for the military of this category. The Day of the Internal Troops of Belarus is dedicated to all those who faithfully serve their country and are ready to give their lives for the good and safety of society. In Belarus, this day falls at the beginning of spring, namely March 18. This date was chosen for a reason, because it was on this day that volunteers founded VV. Of course, in the last century they were different from modern military personnel. But it was thanks to them that the history of valiant service began, which from year to year constantly guarantees peace of mind to the population. On this day, concerts are held in honor of the brave defenders. This is one of the few moments when military personnel can rest peacefully. Usually, they undergo intensive training to improve their skills. The holiday is not a day off. But this is not a reason to forget about such an important date. Never underestimate the merits of the internal troops. They are the first to bear the brunt of danger within the country. If you have acquaintances or friends, professional defenders, be sure to show them your respect on this day, congratulate them, and wish them all the best from your heart.
Considering the important role of the country's tax authorities and local governments in ensuring the integrity and unity of cash flows, as well as customs policy, this holiday is considered a national, state holiday for all employees of the tax inspection and customs control. It has been celebrated annually since 2000. During this time, the date of celebration, for various reasons, changed three times. Under President Leonid Danilovich Kuchma, it was celebrated on October 30 as the Day of the Tax Service of Ukraine. Yushchenko Viktor Andreevich considered it necessary to change this date to July 2. Some time later, from October 11, 2013, according to Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 554/2013, this celebration was moved to the date of March 18 and, in order to preserve the unity of the tax services of Ukraine, the celebration was combined for the Ministry of Tax Collections and customs authorities. This day is not a day off and therefore the heads of these services have the opportunity to congratulate all their subordinates directly on the day of celebration at their workplaces. The bodies for accounting and control over tax obligations and cash flows of Ukraine were created on July 1, 1990, by presidential decree “On the creation of the state tax service in the Ukrainian SSR” dated April 12 of this year, as a division of the Ministry of Finance. The purpose of creating a political tax system in Ukraine is to control the regular financial tax flow to local and state bodies, for the full functioning of the economy of the entire country. In 1996, as part of the tax service, special units were created to detect tax offenses - the tax police. This was the beginning of the construction of an effective tax system to control tax payments.
Mongolia Holidays - Military Day (Men's Holiday)
According to the folk calendar, Konon Ogorodnik is celebrated on March 18 (March 5, old style). This name was taken from the Orthodox calendar, since on this day the church honors the memory of the Great Martyr Konon Gradar, who lived in the 3rd century in the city of Mandona. Konon was a Christian, often prayed and earned his living by gardening. When the persecution of Christians began, he was asked about his faith. Konon confidently recognized the Lord as his god and refused to glorify pagan idols. For this he was subjected to torture: a dozen iron nails were driven into the martyr’s feet and he was forced to walk, after which the saint died. Among the people, Konon was called the Gardener and was considered the patron of vegetable gardens and productivity. They prayed to him that the seedlings would grow successfully and give a good harvest. In any weather, the peasants went out to their plots and cultivated at least a small share of the land: they poured manure and dug up. By this they expressed respect to Saint Konon, hoping that he would give a generous harvest. In order to protect the harvest from worms, midges and drought, the owners performed a special ritual. They dug three holes and called each one one of three troubles. Then they read the plot to the holes one by one and covered them with earth. In warmer regions, residents worked the land to its fullest extent. The women took out vegetable seeds and soaked them in water, preparing them for planting. Usually these were tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, zucchini, and peppers. Konon Ogorodnik’s Day was considered a memorial day. Families remembered deceased relatives, lit candles in the church, and visited graves. And, if someone disappeared in the family, they prayed to the saint for help in finding him. Looking at the signs of Konon Ogorodnik, the peasants predicted the weather. The blossoming of snowdrops signaled the end of frost and the arrival of warmth. Nesting rooks meant that after 3 weeks crops could be sown. The return of wagtails on this day promised a fine spring. The sunny day predicted a not hot summer.
Orthodox holidays March 18:
The beginning of Lent occupies a special place in the hearts of Christian believers. This is a 47-day fast, consisting of the Fourth Day and Holy Week. Lent begins immediately after Forgiveness Sunday and lasts until Easter. During Lent, you should not eat products of animal origin: meat, eggs, dairy. Fish is allowed only on the Annunciation (April 7) and Palm Sunday. In addition, there are special rules for eating and processing food. The strictest days of fasting are the first and last weeks. Here the church advises to refuse food altogether, or to take it only once, in the evening. Refusal to eat is a mandatory requirement, but not the main thing. The meaning of such abstinence is much deeper. Lent implies a time of renunciation of sinful thoughts and repentance for committed deeds. The Church believes that in memory of the fasting Jesus wandering through the desert, every person professing Christianity should fast. The exceptions are small children, sick or elderly people, and pregnant women. However, exceptions apply only to meals that become somewhat harsh. Otherwise, there are no exceptions; a person must think through his actions and desires, sincerely repent of inappropriate things, and be absolutely sure of his plans. A believer is purified by soul and body, so it is extremely important during holy times not to swear, not to use foul language, and to learn to control one’s thoughts and emotions. We need to learn to forgive people and stand up for the weak and disadvantaged. The Church calls for devoting the time of Lent exclusively to charitable deeds, to extend a helping hand to everyone in need. During Lent, no entertainment is allowed. This time belongs only to thoughts and internal analytical analysis, and, of course, prayers. All bad habits and desires must be left outside the beginning of Lent. Believers prepare three weeks in advance. The first week is omnivorous, the second is meat-eating, and the third is oil week, better known as Maslenitsa. It ends in the church with the reading of special prayers on Forgiveness Sunday, after which there comes a time of abstinence for believers. The main thing is to prepare your soul, tune in internally and sincerely feel your mistakes, repent, ask for forgiveness, tune in only to a positive mood, try not to quarrel with colleagues or household members. It is important to work on yourself, getting rid of unnecessary garbage in your soul.
164 years after the repose of Prince Theodore, his incorruptible relics and the relics of his sons (David and Constantine) were transferred to the Monastery of the Holy Savior in Yaroslavl. The three of them were placed in one tomb. It was March 18, 1463. Since then, this day has been celebrated as the holiday of the discovery of relics, which are credited with miraculous powers. The Day of Remembrance of the Three Holy Princes is celebrated on October 2. On this day in 2011, the holy remains were honorably transferred to the Yaroslavl Cathedral. On Christian icons, Prince Theodore is depicted with his teenage sons. This ruler and his sons were respected by the common people and loved by the church. But the icon with the face of three Saints saw the world only in the 16th century. On it the prince himself and his heirs to the throne are depicted with swords. Weapons in the hands of the father-ruler and his sons speak of the power of the princely family and the dignity of origin. The birth of the holy noble prince Theodore, Smolensk and Yaroslavl fell during the period of the Tatar-Mongol intervention in Rus'. His father was the son of the Smolensk prince Rostislav Mstislavovich, and his grandfather was Vladimir Monomakh. At baptism, the boy was named Theodore in honor of the holy great martyr Theodore Stratelates, respected by the warrior princes of Rus'. The boy was raised with love for God. He grew up courageous, brave, and knowledgeable in military affairs. From his marriage to the daughter of the Tatar Khan (who received Christian baptism and the name Anna), he had two sons, David and Konstantin. Prince Theodore became famous for his military victories, piety, mercy, charity, justice, and concern for the construction and equipment of God's churches. He more than once acted as a cunning diplomat in relations with the Tatar-Mongol khans. With his assistance, several churches were built in Yaroslavl. His sons inherited their father's piety and righteousness. They all died at different times, but they were all classified as Saints. Now the relics of all three Saints are kept in one sarcophagus in the Yaroslavl Cathedral.
