Holidays 17 july
July 17 is World Emoji Day. Emoticons, pictograms and ideograms are used by people to express emotions in online communication. Emoji (emoji in Japanese means “gray in a picture”) are inserted into the text of sms, emails, messages on forums and social networks, and are used to write meta tags for website pages. World Emoji Day is a funny holiday that is celebrated by people who cannot imagine virtual communication without graphic symbols. This is interesting: The most popular sign, the emoticon, is decades old. The yellow circle with a smile and dashes was invented in 1969 by US artist Harvey Ball. Varieties of yellow faces that grimace (wink, laugh through tears, stick out their tongue, etc.) appeared in 1999 thanks to the Japanese Shigetaka Kurita. Emoticon :-), a graphic symbol written using typographic signs, was introduced into use in 1982 by computer scientist Scott Fahlman. The Unicode Consortium, a character encoding standard, annually accepts submissions from Internet users for new emoji. At the time of the start of use, their number was 170; now there are already more than 2,000 ideograms. Symbols are divided into groups:• emoticons to express emotions;• people and body parts;• nature and animals;• food and drinks;• terrain and travel;• objects;• depiction of activities, hobbies and sports;• national flags;• holidays ;• elements of the picture. Flash mobs and other events are held on World Emoji Day. Thus, the Canadian branch of PepsiCo released bottles and cans of its famous drink, decorated with images of emoticons, by July 17. Chain supermarkets conduct promotions in which, for a certain amount in the receipt, they provide cards for the board game Emoje. In honor of World Emoji Day 2020, Apple announced the release of new symbols. One of them - the nesting doll - was specially invented for Russian users. This is interesting: Women use emoji more often than men. Emoticons and other ideograms are most popular among people aged 32-44 years. The Japanese love horizontal emojis, which are reminiscent of the facial expressions of anime characters (^_^), while Russians love the symbol of parted lips and fire. In Germany, the most popular is a monkey covering its eyes, among the loving French - a heart broken by an arrow, and among the Italians - a festive cap with streamers and confetti. Over the entire period of its existence, emoji has become a separate language, which is used when writing letters and messages, communicating in chats and forums. The most popular emoji in the world is a laughing face with tears of joy. The fact that there are 5 times more positive symbols than sad and negative symbols reflects the optimistic mood of Internet users. World Emoji Day is deprived of official status, but this does not make the funny holiday less significant for lovers of virtual communication. That's why people celebrate World Emoji Day on July 17th.
People share their warmth and good mood with others, showing sympathy in various ways. Some give gifts for no reason, some pat a friend on the shoulder in a friendly manner, and some simply smile at people they meet along the way. You can share love and a piece of your soul while calling a loved one on the phone, treating your colleagues to a personally prepared pie, and even petting your neighbors’ pet. A gift is a sign of special attention and affection. It is presented both on birthdays, housewarmings, weddings and other occasions, and without. An unusual holiday is celebrated on July 17 - Gift Giving Day. The celebration is dedicated not so much to the tradition of exchanging various material values, but to the ability to choose gifts and make surprises. In honor of the holiday, people put off important things and reschedule meetings in order to give gifts to those they care about. For elderly parents who rarely see their always busy children, a long-awaited visit from their son or daughter with their grandchildren will be a surprise. For an old friend living on the other side of the world, the best gift would be an email or even a call from a childhood friend. A girl in love will rejoice at the note left by the guy, in which, after confessing his sincere feelings, he will draw a broken heart below. Giving sweets, paintings, jewelry and other things is just as pleasant as receiving them. The process of choosing flowers to create a floral arrangement brings as many positive emotions as presenting a bouquet. People usually do not make spontaneous purchases, but do it consciously, using their imagination and putting special meaning into the choice of a gift. If the donor guessed correctly, a fountain of emotions and sincere gratitude awaits him from the person to whom the beautifully packaged offering was intended. In honor of the holiday, lovers and friends exchange cute trinkets, men give gifts to women, parents give gifts to children and vice versa. July 17 provides an opportunity to show your interest in a relationship, to show sympathy, both in words and in deeds. Giving Day encourages you to exchange smiles, calls and letters, cute cards and likes on social networks with those you care about. In honor of the holiday, they treat unfamiliar children with sweets, joke with old ladies sitting on a bench near the house, and pay compliments to people walking towards them. Gifts are a symbol of friendship and love, which in the hustle and bustle of modern life is not superfluous to remind others of. Therefore, gifts are given not only for the New Year, anniversary and other special occasions, but also just like that. For those who are embarrassed or do not want to make another person obligated, there is an excellent reason to cast aside all doubts and timidity - the celebration of Gift Giving Day.
It's 1916 and there are fierce battles in the Baltic. On July 17, Russian army pilots defeated enemy aircraft. This date is considered to be the starting point in the history of naval aviation, although back in 1910 our airplane made its first sea flight. This event took place in Sevastopol. Aircraft-carrying ships began to be equipped in the Russian fleet during the First World War. Before the revolution, almost a dozen factories and workshops worked on the creation of aircraft carriers. No less effort was invested in the development of aircraft that could fight in sea conditions. It was among naval pilots that the first Heroes of the Soviet Union appeared. The first joint operations between ships and aviation began in the First World War. Seaplanes were based on transports and carried out mainly reconnaissance, sometimes bombing or strafing. Regular connections appeared after the revolution. Almost eight dozen aircraft were in service, which were morally and technically outdated. FACT. In the early 20s, 35 million rubles were allocated, which went towards restoration, creation of design bureaus and production facilities. The designers were given the task of creating a powerful group of modern aircraft carriers. By the beginning of World War II, the country had a powerful group of aircraft capable of conducting naval battles. Aviation guarded borders across the seas and took part in rescue operations at the North Pole. The Great Patriotic War did not spare anyone. The pages of history were written with fire and blood. Naval aviation was the first to bomb the enemy's capital. The Nazis were so confident in themselves that there were practically no barriers in the way of our pilots. Thanks to naval aviators, our fleet operated successfully and carried out the orders of the command. The planes made more than 35,000 sorties and destroyed almost 6,000 pieces of flying equipment. With the end of the Second World War, a period of improvement and development of naval aviation began. Modern equipment is being put into service, jet fighters, attack aircraft, and torpedo bombers are being put into service. Currently, four fleets have their own aviation units. FACT. Two hundred and sixty pilots became heroes of the USSR, five aviators twice. The role of naval aviation is growing every year, new tasks and areas of application of forces are emerging. Russian aviators are armed with the most sophisticated technology and equipment, which can be operated and maintained by professionals of the highest class. The flying group of the Russian fleet is the most maneuverable force in the navy. The main task set by the command is independent or joint combat operations in any ocean regions. Naval aviators are often called upon to support ground operations. Modern combat operations at sea are not possible without the use of aviation technology, which carries out reconnaissance, shelling coastal fortifications, torpedoing enemy ships, detects enemy submarines and much more. At the moment, naval pilots are the elite of the Russian armed forces. On this day I would like to congratulate veterans, pilots, and service personnel on a wonderful professional holiday. Let's wish you clear skies, no combat alarms and good health!
This holiday, amazing in its brightness and emotionality, can initially be classified as professional. It originated on the initiative of teachers of St. Petersburg University, namely, the Department of Ethnography. The initiative belonged to Professor Rudolf Its. The timing of the holiday was not chosen by chance. In the summer, after the end of the academic year and mandatory exams, students from most Russian universities go on internships or on expeditions. They associate this period not only with additional workload, but also with the holiday - Ethnologist's Day. It is customary to celebrate it on July 17, the birthday of the famous explorer and traveler Miklouho-Maclay. That is why, at a set table, the first toast is to this wonderful man. Then they traditionally remember those who came up with the idea of celebrating and organized this holiday. If traditional holidays have their own culinary traditions, then they do not apply to this one, due to the fact that they are often celebrated outdoors or in unfamiliar unusual places: forests, villages, fields. Wherever this day finds someone, that’s where they spend it. On the table only what can be found or purchased in a given area. Such uncertainty gives a special meaning - to learn to enjoy where and with whom you find yourself. After the feast, role-playing games are held to initiate newcomers into real ethnographers. There is no end to fantasy here. Each group prepares in advance. Participants in an impromptu performance are selected. Simple costumes are being prepared. All this is accompanied by songs, dancing, fun and swimming: in a river, stream, lake, if the weather and terrain conditions permit. Competitions are held among local poets. Students and teachers devote poetic odes to this day. Candles are often lit, as if consecrating this ritual. Of course, different universities celebrate in their own way. Moreover, every year more and more people join the celebration. Some celebrate outdoors on an expedition, while others get together and go to a concert or a themed master class. The main thing is that all this brings people together in a kind way. Here I would like to recall the words of Miklouho-Maclay that we must value a person based on the goals that he sets for himself. And in this sense, the holiday has turned into a kind of day of friendship with all peoples.
Customs and traditions strengthen the connection between generations of the family, contribute to the cohesion and unity of the people, preserving their identity and regulating relations within society. The world is very diverse and many-sided. The peoples inhabiting the planet have a culture and way of life formed over centuries, of which customs are part. Their knowledge not only simplifies communication between people of different races and nationalities, but also enriches spiritually and intellectually. July 17 is the Day of Rooted Traditions. The patterns of behavior that have developed in society, related to the history of a people or state, are passed on from generation to generation. Some traditions are a consequence of people’s way of life, the religion they profess, superstitions or observations of natural phenomena. Such customs include, for example, Christian holidays, many of which have been celebrated since pagan times: Maslenitsa, Ivan Kupala, Easter. At the everyday level, traditions are manifested in the observance of rituals. In Japan it is a tea ceremony, in India it is a noisy celebration of the festival of lights of Devali and the colors of Holi, in Finland it is a visit to the sauna every Saturday. Another part of the traditions appeared as a consequence of the decision of the country's political elite or government authorities. Victory Day, February 23 or Russia Day are recent celebrations in the thousand-year history of the Slavs that help unite the people and stabilize social relations. Some public holidays and traditions of their implementation solve not only global problems, but also less significant ones, participating in the unity of family members, such as Thanksgiving Day in the USA. Every fourth Thursday in November for more than 400 years, Americans have gathered for a gala dinner, the main course of which is stuffed turkey. Traditions are not only holidays, but also ceremonies (Oscars or Nobel Prizes), social norms of greeting (bowing as a sign of respect), the use of impractical but meaningful clothing and accessories (the wearing of white wigs by judges in the UK). The conservative approach dismantles Muslim society from the role and place of the fair sex in it. What seems anachronistic and savage to a European, women raised in the traditions of Islam consider the norm. Respect for one's own culture and national customs contributes to the connection between generations and the strengthening of religious beliefs. Some of the foundations are based on norms of public morality and moral values, and therefore are found among many peoples of the world. This is a respectful and respectful attitude towards older people and pregnant women, celebrating birthdays and weddings, and celebrating the New Year. The customs of most nationalities include hospitality, giving gifts on important occasions, care and love for children. These unwritten laws unite people all over the globe, who celebrate the Day of Rooted Traditions on July 17th.
The Rome Statute is a treaty that transfers part of the sovereignty of states that ratify it in the field of criminal proceedings to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The conference on the adoption of this agreement was held under the auspices of the UN in the capital of Italy in July 1998. Diplomats authorized by the governments of 60 countries signed the statute, and in July 2002 this agreement came into force. The document establishes the creation of a special body, the ICC, which is vested with the right to prosecute persons who participated in genocide and committed military and other serious criminal crimes against humanity. The date of ratification of the Rome Statute and accession to it by 123 states today is a holiday. World International Criminal Justice Day is observed annually on July 17th. The main office of the ICC is in The Hague. Here in the Netherlands, and in 6 branches of the organization located around the world, cases of persons who have committed war and other serious crimes since July 1, 2002 are considered. Participating states are obliged to cooperate with this international body - to pursue suspects, arrest and extradite to court . The ICC prosecutes criminals against whom local authorities are unwilling or unable to prosecute. These include, for example, prosecutions of former presidents of countries who have committed illegal acts. World Day for International Justice was established in honor of the body that guarantees punishment for the most serious crimes - mass murder of people, torture, recruitment of children as soldiers. Judges are selected from among the states that are members of UN regional groups. The official languages of the ICC are English, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish and Chinese. The court's staff consists of more than 800 people from more than 100 countries. The first verdict was handed down by the ICC against Thomas Lubanga Dyilo, who organized the unrest in the Congo. Among those convicted is Liberian President Charles Taylor, who was convicted in 2012 of looting, terrorism, sexual violence and slavery. According to the rebels, he forced them to cannibalism and performed human sacrifices. Since its inception, the ICC has examined more than 30 cases and indicted 52 people. By 2022, its judges had handed down 10 convictions and, based on the results of the investigation, 4 acquittals. The international treaty helps administer justice in countries that have ratified the Statute. Others may accept the jurisdiction of the ICC, whose provisions will be applied in these states on an ad hoc basis. Many countries have joined the treaty, incl. and Russia. In 2016, the President of the Russian Federation issued a decree on the country’s withdrawal from membership in the ICC. The Rome Statute was not signed by India, China, Ukraine, Israel, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and others. The agreement has not been ratified in the USA, Mozambique, Thailand and 28 other countries. The celebration in honor of the ICC was established in 2010 in Uganda at a conference to revise certain provisions of the Rome Statute. The holiday, celebrated on July 17, is a celebration of the struggle for justice in defense of victims of criminals who violated universal principles of morality and ethics. In honor of World Day for International Justice, social events and other events are held to strengthen ties between member countries of the Rome Statute and international justice.

July 17th is Disneyland's birthday. The date was not chosen by chance and is associated with the opening of the first fairy-tale amusement park in 1955. The idea of its founder, animator Walt Disney, was to combine attractions and places where young visitors could interact with their favorite fairy tale characters on one territory. In addition to 2 US cities, Anaheim and Orlando, there are parks in Tokyo and Paris, as well as in China - in Hong Kong and Shanghai. All of them celebrate Disneyland's birthday every year on July 17th. The first Disneyland, which was built in a record 365 days, opened on July 17, 1955. Walt Disney, the founder of the studio where animation masterpieces were created, was present at the ceremony. The opening of the park, located on 65 hectares of land in the town of Anaheim, California, was broadcast by ABC, and the broadcast was hosted by the future US President, journalist Ronald Reagan. Initially, Disneyland had 16 attractions, later their number increased to 23. Hollywood stars, famous politicians and ordinary Americans came to the opening of the amusement park. At the entrance, guests were greeted by Mickey Mouse, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. Later they were joined by Winnie the Pooh and his friends, Donald Duck and Pinocchio. The park consisted of Fantasyland, Borderland and The world of adventure. Over time, Bear Country and Mickey's Toontown were added. Today, children and adults can visit the Haunted House, Pet Sematary, Tarzan's House, Star Wars territory, a grotto with characters from Pirates of the Caribbean and other attractions. A week after opening in 1955, The Walt Disney Company and its founder earned 1 of their $17 million investment on the park. The record attendance was set in 2009, when more than 15.9 million visitors visited Disneyland. The project paid off quite quickly, the company began to open branches all over the world: in 1983 - in Tokyo, in 1992 - in Paris, in 2005 - in Hong Kong, and in 2016 - in the Pudong district of Shanghai. Walt Disney required all park employees to be clean shaven. They were allowed to wear mustaches and beards only at the beginning of 2000. Comedian Steve Martin and actress Michelle Pfeiffer once wore costumes of fairy-tale characters walking along the roads of the park. In the park, as in the Hermitage, there live cats who fight rats. And if in St. Petersburg there are 50 cats in the service of the museum, then in Disneyland there are about 200 four-legged friends. The King Arthur Carousel, built in 1922, is the oldest in Anaheim. Disneyland bought the land for the park with this attraction already in place. The oldest building is the Opera House, built in 1961, which previously housed a sawmill. The top five most popular characters include Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Cinderella, Aladdin and Spider-Man. In the magical world of Walt Disney, every day is a holiday. In the evening, a closing ceremony - a parade of heroes - is held in the park to the sounds of music and fireworks. However, Anaheim employees wear badges with the number of Disneyland years only once a year - on July 17th on his birthday.
According to the folk calendar, Andrey Naliva is celebrated on July 17 (July 4, old style). The date received the first part of its name from the names of two saints - Andrei of Crete and Andrei Rublev, whose memory is honored by the Orthodox Church on this day. Andrew of Crete was born on the territory of Syria in Damascus in the 7th century. He suffered from muteness until he was seven years old, but after joining the church he was able to speak. The boy received a good education, but his love for the Lord led him to take monastic vows at the Jerusalem monastery. For his clear mind and meekness, the monk was elevated to the rank of bishop on the island of Crete. The saint wrote many church works and preached sermons about Christ. Andrei Rublev lived in the 14th and 15th centuries in Rus'. Since childhood, I grew up in an educated family and studied painting. Afterwards he became a monk and worked in the Moscow Spaso-Andronikov and Trinity-Sergius monasteries. He had a talent from God, so he was engaged in painting icons and painting monastery walls. Some of his icons had miraculous powers. And among the people, Andrei was nicknamed Nalivoy, since the period of ripening of winter grains was approaching, their ears were filled with grains, after which the harvest began. Plants sown in the soil from August to October were called winter plants. Their advantage was that they tolerated wintering normally, and in early spring they sprouted immediately after the snow melted. Unlike spring crops, winter crops produced harvests much earlier. On Andrei Naliva they honored oats. Its grains were used for their own food and to feed livestock. The green part of the oats was mowed and dried for the winter for livestock. The plant had quite useful properties and was often used in folk medicine. On this day, you should cook and eat porridge from peeled oats and jelly. Oats were also shared with horses to keep them healthy and strong. If the yellowing crown of trees was noticed on Andrei Naliva, then summer ended early. A lot of wasps or an abundance of wild berries meant a harsh winter. Frequent thunder signaled an imminent thunderstorm with possible hail. Chickens hiding from the rain promised prolonged bad weather. What the weather was like on a given day, this was what was expected on Kalinnik by August 11th.

Orthodox holidays on July 17:
Memorial Day of the Holy Royal Martyrs
Feast of the Galata Icon of the Mother of God
On July 17, Orthodox Christians pay tribute to the memory of the Venerable icon painter Andrei Rublev. Andrei Rublev is the most famous Russian icon painter. He lived and worked in the 14th-15th centuries. He was canonized only in 1988 for his virtue, asceticism and godly creativity. Information about the life of the great master of icon painting is scanty, and his worldly name has not reached us. According to some sources, the monk was born into the family of an artisan in the Moscow principality. He is characterized as a very educated, wise and religious person. Upon reaching a fairly mature age, the man took monastic vows at the Andronikov Monastery. Rublev studied painting in Bulgaria and Byzantium. Researchers suggest that he was a student of Theophanes the Greek. Living in a monastic atmosphere of piety and love of God left an imprint on the nature of his work. Also, his style was greatly influenced by the increased interest in Russian society in the moral beauty of man. People, having united in the struggle to overthrow the yoke and advocated the unification of the country, began to take an interest in the heroic past of Rus'. Rublev is mentioned several times in chronicles. At first he is spoken of as a black assistant during the painting of the Annunciation Cathedral. Three years later, records about him appear again, but as a famous painter painting the Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir. Finally, in the records of the 20s. 15th century Rublev appears as the leader of the painted works in the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Monastery. His most famous work is the “Holy Trinity” icon, which is part of the iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral. After its discovery, researchers mistakenly assumed that its author was some Italian master. This is due to the fact that in Rus' there have never been such skilled icon painters. Three angels are written on the icon, two of which bless the cup with the head of a calf. The icon shows the moment of the meeting between Abraham and the angels who announced to him the imminent appearance of his son Isaac. Scholars agree that the humble angelic figures represent God the Son, God the Father, and the Holy Spirit. The image of the Trinity has a symbolic meaning. So the author wanted to show the depth and sacrifice of God’s love for man, without being distracted by the details and plot of the biblical event called “Abraham’s Hospitality.” The great master died in 1428 during the plague. At this time he worked on the frescoes of the Spassky Cathedral. The painter was buried on the territory of the cathedral. In honor of Andrei Rublev, sculptures were created, popular science and feature films were made, and a ballet was staged. Streets in Ufa, Novosibirsk, Gorodets, Zvenigorod and Bryansk are also named in his honor. A Martian crater and an Aeroflot plane are named after the great master. On the day of remembrance of the saint, churches read a troparion, kontakion and prayer specially dedicated to this day.
