Holidays 9 july
Despite the fact that the twenty-first century is called a time of rapid information technology, and the global Internet has covered almost everything, the work of the Russian Post is in demand and necessary, as it was many years ago. Still, many people expect letters written on paper sheets and sent in envelopes, rather than by email. Elderly people in remote outbacks eagerly await the arrival of the postman to receive a pension or news from people dear and close to them. People who deliver letters, newspapers, magazines and other correspondence to specific addresses are called postmen. And they work in Russian post offices. The profession of a postman, like other postal workers, is responsible, important, and necessary. The working day of a modern letter carrier and all postal workers begins with sorting correspondence. Some post offices have machines that do this, but people often have to double-check everything. They place ordinary and registered letters, magazines, small parcels, notices, and sometimes summonses at specific addresses and sign them. All valuable correspondence, including money transfers, are transmitted only against signature, and postal operators are responsible for their integrity and delivery to a specific addressee. And despite the fact that the Internet has made it possible to send letters electronically, the notorious “belt bag” for postal workers can be very impressive in size. Not only postmen work in post offices. Post office employees process and transfer various correspondence every day, both in Russian cities and to other countries. These are parcels and parcels, money orders and telegrams, newspapers, magazines and other printed publications. Taking into account modern trends, postal employees have mastered the latest types of communication services. For example, hybrid and expedited mail, accepting various types of payments, including utility payments, sending out advertising and related materials, transporting various types of cargo, and much, much more. Since 2013, Russian Post has been considered a strategic enterprise of the Russian Federation, and celebrates its professional holiday in July, the second Sunday of the month, annually. Russian post is a “living organism” that functions without rest. To deliver mail, postal cars, airplanes, including air flights, as well as an innumerable “army” of cars are used. And it all started with the reforms of Peter I, it was this tsar-reformer, creating a shipyard in the city of Arkhangelsk, who established regular and first postal communication between Moscow and the city on the banks of the Northern Dvina. Much has changed since then, but the essence of the postal service has remained the same - timely delivery of any correspondence intact and safe. Let us add that World Post Day is celebrated annually on October 9th.
All fishermen celebrate their professional and simply favorite holiday every 2nd Sunday of July. Fisherman's Day is a Soviet heritage, established in 1965 by a special decree of the Presidium of the USSR. Now officially celebrated only in Ukraine after gaining independence. For other countries of the former Soviet Union, this is an unofficial date, although there are quite a lot of fans abroad. The reason for the special day was the rapid development of fishing as a promising sector of the economy in the 60-70s of the last century. In some regions this area of activity has become a priority. This holiday is celebrated on a large scale and everywhere in the regions of Russia, where the activities of the majority of residents are related to fishing. Now, slowly, but the fishing industry is developing. Russia's unique internal resources and long coastline (4th in the world) make it possible to achieve industry progress using the latest developments. Large nurseries and processing plants are being built. Thus, Yamal commercial fishermen have recently been surpassing all production indicators. The region's oldest enterprise operates in the region. The administration is sure to honor veterans of this industry. And every year the holiday is carefully prepared. Each area that has fish rivers and access to the sea will surprise guests from places where there are no global water resources with its attractions and advantages. For example, the Baikal holiday-festival, held in the warmest bay of the national park, will attract tourists with original events and costume competitions. Culinary competitions and chef master classes will entice fans not only of fishing, but also of the logical purpose of the catch - fish dishes. Significant events during this period take place in Astrakhan, dedicated to Fisherman’s Day. The thematic design is supported by all sorts of current exhibitions; some cities organize excursions. Everyone, without exception, will enjoy the competition and game programs, as well as the performances of artists. Having become widespread and popular, amateur fishing competitions attract their fans. They give especially diligent fishermen the opportunity to win a valuable prize; participants and guests will enjoy traditional fish soup after the end of the tournament and recharge with optimism even in bad weather. For many, this is not only a professional, but also a fun family holiday. Fisherman's Day brings people together: there is no division on any grounds. Gender and age are not an obstacle to what you love. Family sport fishing teams are the best proof. Everyone, without exception, from professional employees to enthusiastic amateurs, looks forward to the 2nd Sunday of July.
They decided not to create a new date for the Day of Action against Fishing in Russia, but to take advantage of the calendar “location” of the large-scale national holiday Fisherman’s Day, which is celebrated on the second Sunday of July. Since 2003, it has been customary to celebrate two “fish festivals” on the same July day. The main mission of the holiday is the fight against poachers, counteracting cruel, uncontrolled and massive fishing. And also – ensuring the safety of the aquatic ecosystem. The authorship of the holiday belongs to an initiative group of animal rights defenders, who at the next meeting in Anapa insisted on the need to establish such an important date. The first “effective day” to protect water resources and their valuable inhabitants took place in Novorossiysk on the Black Sea in 2003. However, then the city authorities prohibited holding the action in the city center, so the activists were forced to relocate to the embankment on the outskirts. This did not disrupt the plans of the defenders, and the picket, with the support of environmentalists and journalists, was successful. The organizers distributed leaflets calling for a fight against poachers and an end to harsh treatment of defenseless fish, their fishing and mass extermination. The procession reached the central market, headed to the fish rows, and the procession participants began distributing propaganda leaflets to sellers and buyers. The central event was a theatrical performance-picket for the sake of saving living organisms living in rivers, lakes and seas. The main character was an actor who played the role of a fisherman. A live exhibition with swimming fish was simulated. The tranquility of the picture was disrupted by the sudden casting of a fishing net. A lot of fish got into the honeycomb structure, but some managed to escape. Then the fisherman in snow-white gloves began to catch them with a hook. As a result, they turned red with the blood of the caught fish. At the same time, the actor-fisherman, according to the director’s idea, did not even try to hide his joy and jubilation. The next stage was a dispute between the fisherman and animal defenders, who argued in favor of the fish, their right to life, and also talked about all the horrors of inhumane fishing. The goal of the action - to demonstrate the harshness of fishing, which led to the disappearance of certain species of fish - was achieved. The next action of the same nature took place the following year in Sochi. Poachers are usually called violators who catch fish during the spawning season or “hunt” for endangered species, or exceed production quotas. They also use prohibited weapons or carry out fishing from technical equipment with the engine running. Fishing is a profitable activity for them, since fish acts as a priority item of trade. It is especially difficult for salmon and sturgeon fish. Their destructive fishing for profit continues, despite all the bans and sanctions. Uncontrolled fishing leads to a decrease in the population of the fish family, and global pollution with waste and oil products leads to the death of the world’s oceans. In order to openly declare existing problems, the day of struggle against fishing was created. So far it is not being carried out en masse, but rather locally in different Russian cities on the Black Sea coast. Traditionally, small actions are held with the distribution of leaflets and picketing. They are designed to draw public attention to the consequences of excessive fishing, in particular, causing irreparable damage to natural potential and fish resources. The main thing is to try to prevent cruelty to the “irreplaceable living asset”.
Every second Sunday of July in Belarus comes Tax Workers' Day, which as an official professional holiday arose thanks to the decree of President A. Lukashenko in 1998. After gaining independence from the USSR, the country needed its own department responsible for the receipt of taxes to the budget. The Personal Tax Service was created in 1990 on the basis of the Ministry of Finance. Years of transformations and renamings led it to its modern form: since 2001 it has been a separate governing body. The Ministry of Taxes and Duties, consisting of various departments, departments and inspections, works for the welfare of the country, because tax revenues are the basis of the budget of Belarus. Protecting state interests and economic security are the priorities that guide all employees of the department. Several institutes train specialists, the leading place in which is occupied by the Academy of Management. Almost every year, the ministry, together with the president, tries to improve the tax system, making it as up-to-date as possible and in line with the latest trends. Thus, the plans include a wealth tax, which has been discussed for a long time, causing various discussions. The gambling business is another tool for significantly replenishing the state budget, taken under strict government control. The attitude towards non-payers of legal fees is quite serious, regardless of the status of the person - individual or legal. A special decree on parasitism was adopted, according to which all citizens must be employed and must participate in the financing of government spending. There are still many different tasks assigned to employees and all this requires strict control. Soon, Workers' Day will be celebrated by specialists of a new position in the tax authorities of Belarus - tax consultants who provide relevant assistance to citizens. Modern technologies are being actively introduced - the ministry has its own website. Electronic document management, remote services, mobile applications are innovative methods in the tax sphere of Belarus. It even has its own heraldic emblem. The staff and the key are symbols that have historically accompanied this activity in ancient Belarus for centuries. Scrupulousness, accumulation and preservation, responsibility, a share of courage - these qualities required for the profession have not changed for hundreds of years. Although earlier the positions sounded different: tax collector, treasurer, treasurer. Modern tax officials still help the country become strong economically. Official awards, presentation of certificates, badges for the best employees are timed to coincide with the professional date. On this day, especially diligent workers who have shown success are included on the Honor Board of the Belarusian Ministry of Tax Authorities. The department has an interesting nomination for the other side - the best payer. Congratulations from state officials once again emphasize the importance and responsibility of the work of each ministry employee.
Citizens of 175 countries have the right to own machine guns, rifles, pistols, flamethrowers, crossbows and other types of weapons. The top 7 by number of units per capita includes the USA, Canada, Yemen, Syria, Montenegro, Finland and Iceland. Buying, carrying and storing weapons in these and other countries are basic human freedoms related to security and self-defense. Illegal trade and possession of rifles, machine guns, and shotguns leads to violence and increased crime rates. The International Day for the Destruction of Weapons, celebrated on July 9, is intended to prevent danger to the lives of civilians. The establishment of International Gun Destruction Day on July 9 was initiated by the UN. Activities aimed at eradicating the illicit trade in small arms have been carried out in many countries since 2001. According to statistics, only 50% of the global trade in shotguns, rifles and pistols is legal. It is difficult to trace the origin and availability of illegally acquired arsenal, especially when the population has 640 million weapons in private ownership. Every year, about 30 thousand people die from its use. The Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which went into effect in December 1791, guarantees the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. Carry license laws vary from state to state. The requirements for owners are most favorable in Maine, Louisiana and Alaska; citizens of Wisconsin and Illinois are generally deprived of this right. The private arsenal of Americans totals 393 million guns, which is 67 million more than the entire population of the country. The list of countries with gun death rates is topped by Honduras, Venezuela, El Salvador and Jamaica. However, from American media reports, it seems that most of these killings, including the infamous mass school shootings, occur in the United States. This explains the active lobbying in America in recent years for the adoption of laws to limit the circulation of weapons and introduce bans on carrying, causing negative reactions among the population. In some cases, the country's authorities, on the contrary, meet citizens halfway. Thus, the governor of Ohio signed a law in June 2022 under which teachers, principals and other school employees will be able to quickly obtain permission to carry weapons. A mandatory condition for issuing a license is completion of training for 700 hours. The population of Canada has 9.9 million weapons in their hands, while the country's army has only 234 thousand. The process of obtaining and owning it is quite long and complex, it requires a thorough check of the future owner. Gun ownership in Canada and the United States stems from centuries-old cultural and historical traditions. Therefore, the authorities’ initiative to dispose of the excess number of “barrels” as part of International Gun Destruction Day does not find approval among either Canadians or Americans. The law on the acquisition and storage of weapons in Switzerland is one of the most liberal in the world. Almost any citizen of the country who has reached the age of 18 and has no criminal record can buy a shotgun, rifle or pistol. To obtain a permit, the future owner must be mentally healthy and not addicted to drugs or alcohol. In Switzerland, carrying a weapon is not considered a sign of militarism or aggression. It is, along with the payment of taxes, a symbol of civic republican valor, because the state does not have its own army. The tightening of legislation on the acquisition and ownership of weapons is negatively perceived by the population of many countries around the world. But, apparently, the adoption of restrictions to combat violence and ensure the safety of the population is inevitable. This is called for by the International Day of the Destruction of Weapons, which is held annually on July 9.
When you are outside the city and looking into an open field, or sitting on the shore of the ocean or large lake, you can see a point where the earth and sky seem to meet. Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the horizon? Have you ever felt it calling you to go on an adventure or expedition? July 9, Call of the Horizon Day - experience this feeling while looking into the distance, at the horizon and into the unknown. It's about dreaming big, moving and having adventures, both physical and mental. This is the day to take hold of those dreams and plan how you will make them come true. Celebrate the day by driving or going out to a place with a view of the skyline. Most likely, you will have to go out of town and find a flat area or come to a large body of water. Take a notepad with you and write down everything that comes to your mind that you would like to do. Is there a place you've been meaning to visit? Is there a project you'd like to take on or a hobby you'd like to try? Write down everything that the horizon calls you to do. Then spend the rest of the day starting to plan how you will achieve your dreams. 1. The horizon is usually defined as the line separating the Earth from the Sky. However, the word is also often used in geology to describe the line separating two layers of soil or rock. 2. The word horizon comes from the Greek word orizein, which means to limit or divide. 3. The true horizon is a theoretical horizontal line, actually a circle with the observer at the center. Usually the true horizon is not visible because there are hills, mountains, buildings, trees, etc. in the way. The only time you can see this is when looking out to sea. 4. How far is it to the horizon? The distance to the visible horizon depends largely on weather conditions and how high up the observer is. This requires complex mathematical formulas, which we will not go into here. However, for a person whose eyes are 1.70 meters above the ground, standing at sea level under standard atmospheric conditions, the horizon is about 5 kilometers away. 5. On other planets, the horizon will be at a different distance from you depending on the radius of the planet. On Mars, for example, the horizon is 73% further than it would be on Earth, and on the Moon it is 52%. 6. Get high enough and the horizon changes from a straight line to a slight curve (the curvature of the Earth). And when it goes into orbit, it will become part of an ellipse, because the Earth is not a perfect sphere. 7. This brings us to the topic of Flat Earthers. People who lived before the Middle Ages, and even some people living today, interpret the horizon as the edge of the Earth from which you will fall if you ever reach it. Oddly enough, no one has ever done this. However, observing the horizon helped prove that the Earth is a sphere. Aristotle noticed that the further south he went, the higher some constellations rose above the horizon. 8. When describing the position of the Earth relative to the rest of the sky, astronomers use a concept called the celestial or astronomical horizon, an imaginary horizontal plane always at an angle of 90 degrees to the observer's zenith (the point directly above them). 9. Before we invented radio and satellite navigation, the horizon was extremely important for navigation and communication. You could only communicate with another ship if you could actually see it, and the position of the Sun and stars relative to the horizon helped early sailors determine where they were, how long they were, and in what direction they were sailing.
Azerbaijan, like other countries and republics of the world, has its own national events. This list includes the “Day of Azerbaijani Diplomatic Service Employees”. In short, it is “Diplomat Day”. It is celebrated every year on July 9th. “Diplomat Day” refers to professional holidays. It is dedicated to the work of Azerbaijani diplomats. It was officially proclaimed quite recently, namely in 2007. The “Day of Azerbaijani Diplomatic Service Employees” was proclaimed thanks to the decree of the fourth president. The decree dates back to August 2007. In it, Ilham Heydar Aliyev noted the importance of diplomats. He emphasized the invaluable contribution of national diplomacy to the creation of the world's first Muslim Democratic Republic, as well as to the establishment of its firm independence. The main culprits of the “Day of Azerbaijani Diplomatic Service Employees” are diplomats, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, starting from managers, senior officials and ending with ordinary employees. Although the history of this holiday does not last long, certain traditions and rules of celebration have already been established. According to them, every year on July 9, representatives of the diplomatic services of Baku go to the Walk of Honor to honor the memory of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev by laying flowers on his grave. Also, every year on the eve of “Diplomat Day” or immediately after it, it is customary to hold a meeting of the heads of the republic’s diplomatic services. The most important issues regarding foreign policy are resolved there. Today, Azerbaijan is part of international diplomacy. He did not achieve this achievement the easy way. Now Azerbaijani diplomats continue to work hard to make the Republic of Azerbaijan even more significant at the international level. So these people deserved their professional holiday, just as they deserved congratulations with gifts from colleagues, relatives, and close people. Azerbaijanis throughout the world have been famous for their hospitality since ancient times. This republic is unusually rich in national customs. When celebrating the Day of Diplomatic Service Employees, as with any other national holiday, one should not forget about the traditions of Azerbaijan: Despite the importance of diplomats’ activities, their professional holiday is not a non-working day. Unless “Azerbaijan Diplomatic Service Employees Day” falls on a day off (Saturday, Sunday).

According to the folk calendar, David Strawberry is celebrated on July 9 (June 26, old style). David named the holiday in the name of Saint David of Thessalonica, whose memory is revered by Orthodox Christians on this date. The story of David began in the mid-5th century in Mesopotamia. From his youth he studied the Holy Scriptures and prayed a lot. Having moved to Thessalonica, he accepted monasticism, and a few years later became a hermit. David built a hut near an almond tree, where he lived as an ascetic for about 70 years. For this, the Lord rewarded the hermit with the gift of healing the infirm; townspeople who came to him were cured of serious illnesses. The people called David the Strawberry Man. At this time, the strawberries were ripe, so the peasants went into the forest to pick them. This task took a long time, but the result was justified, because red berries were valued not only for their taste, but also for their medicinal qualities. Residents believed that if you eat a large handful of strawberries, you can recharge yourself with vital energy until next summer. Strawberries were a storehouse of useful vitamins and microelements. Its berries were consumed fresh as a delicacy, especially valued by children for their pleasant taste and aroma. They were also used to make jams and preserves, add them to pies, and prepare liqueurs. For the winter, strawberry leaves were collected, dried and drunk as herbal infusions. Strawberry berries, leaves and roots were used for medicinal purposes. They helped in the treatment of heart diseases, stomach ulcers, kidney ailments and to strengthen the immune system. Women prepared special masks from strawberries to remove freckles and smooth skin; they also used strawberries to remove tartar. If there was a thunderstorm on David Strawberry, then the rest of the summer was predicted to be rainy. An abundance of strawberries in the forest was observed during the frosty winter. Dry soil, quickly absorbing moisture, signaled hot days, wet soil - rainy days. If you hide a strawberry leaf in your pocket on a given day, you can always count on trouble-free money loans.
Orthodox holidays on July 9:
The Tikhvin Icon of the Most Holy Mother of God is of great importance for Orthodox Christians. Believers believe that the holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke himself painted this image. Until the 5th century, the icon was in Jerusalem, then it was taken to Constantinople, where it was kept for a long time in the Blachernae Church, built specifically for this purpose. 70 years before Constantinople was captured by the Turks, in 1383 the icon disappeared from the temple. After that, it miraculously appeared in different places in Rus'. For the first time she was seen over Lake Ladoga, illuminated by an unearthly light. Then the holy face of the Mother of God appeared to people near the city of Tikhvin, and on this very spot, in honor of the significant and miraculous event, the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God was built. All miracles associated with the icon were described in “Tales of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God” - a handwritten source, the first entries in which appeared around the 15th century. This book says that the icon of the Mother of God “walked luminously through the air,” appearing to the residents of Russian villages. People who were lucky enough to witness this amazing phenomenon had no doubt that the icon was being carried across the sky by angels. In total, the icon appeared to the people seven times: its first appearance was over Lake Ladoga, then the image of the Mother of God appeared on the Oyat River, in the Smolkovo churchyard in Imochenitsy. After this, the icon was seen on Kukova Mountain on Kozhel, and soon the image appeared above the Tikhvinka River (first on one bank, then on the other). It was the last place where the image of the Mother of God appeared that was chosen for the construction of the temple, which became the storage place for the great Orthodox shrine. The church, built of wood, burned several times, however, the icon always remained safe and sound. In 1560, Tsar Ivan the Terrible ordered a monastery to be built around the temple and surrounded by a powerful stone wall. In 1614, when Novgorod was captured by the Swedes, the monastery was subjected to numerous attacks, but the enemy failed to capture it or destroy it. The miraculous salvation of the monastery is associated with the protection of the Mother of God, whose icon was kept within the walls of the monastery. They say that when the monks learned about the approach of the Swedish army, they tried to hide the icon outside the monastery, however, no matter how hard they tried, they could not move the holy image of the Mother of God. At the sight of such a miracle, even the most cowardly of the monks were filled with faith and decided to stay in the monastery to protect it from the enemy, completely relying on the protection and patronage of the Mother of God. Despite the fact that the enemy forces significantly outnumbered the inhabitants of the monastery, the monks successfully repelled all attacks of the Swedes, preventing them from penetrating the walls of the holy monastery. At this time, Russian soldiers who marched from Moscow rushed to help the Novgorodians, and soon the Swedes had no choice but to flee. For a long time, the icon served people, protecting and preserving them. In 1920, the Assumption Monastery was closed, and the image itself was placed in the local history museum. Until 1941, the icon was kept in the Tikhvin Museum, then the Germans transported it to Pskov. In 1944, the image of the Mother of God was already in Riga, then the icon visited Libau, Jablonec nad Nisou, and the American zone of occupation of Germany. In 1950, the image was sent to Chicago. The icon returned to its homeland only in 2004, and was solemnly placed in the revived Tikhvin Monastery. Here she remains to this day. The celebration of the appearance of the Tikhvin Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary takes place on July 9 - on this day Orthodox Christians ask the patron saint for health for themselves and their loved ones, as well as for help in war.
