Holidays 16 january
Since 2001, the international day of the legendary group “The Beatles” has been celebrated on January 16. The choice of this date is not a random decision. It was on this day back in 1957 that the famous Kavern club was opened, where three friends began their fruitful creative journey many years ago: John Lennon, Paul Macartney and George Harrison. Later they were joined by a fourth permanent member of the team, Ringo Starr. In addition, on January 16, only in 1964, the first position of the American hit parade was taken by the Beatles' composition “I want to hold your hand.” From that moment the conquest of the United States began. The fateful meeting for the Liverpool team took place in 1962. It was then that they met a man who had nothing to do with the music industry. However, that didn't stop him from realizing - or perhaps feeling - that these guys were worth the effort. Brian Epstein, that was the name of this man, took the position of team manager. He subsequently admitted that the Beatles' songs helped open up a completely different world for him. Brian himself did no less for the young group - he opened a whole world for them. It seems to many that this legendary group has existed for many years, and most position them as eternal idols. But the team in its standard composition lasted only 8 years. During their activity, the musicians released 13 albums. All of them became true classics and sold millions of copies. The Beatles gained their first popularity after writing the song “Please Please Me.” This event took place in 1963. Probably from that moment the planet went crazy and a new phenomenon called Beatlemania appeared. According to legend, the idea for the band's name came to Lennon in a dream. Today it is no longer possible to confirm or refute this fact, but the musician himself claimed that he saw a stranger on the pie who said: “Let there be Beetles.” This word translates as “bugs”, but John replaced the letter “e” with “a”. Thus, a completely new word emerged. At its root one can clearly read “beat” - beat music. The group's creativity has made a significant contribution to the development of the music industry. Many famous composers and singers followed their example. In addition, the Beatles were the first to use innovative ideas in the field of sound recording and video filming. Today the band ranks first on the list of the greatest performers of all time according to Rolling Stone. A few years ago, this magazine published the 500 best songs of all time, and most of all in this top are “Beatles” songs. On January 16, all kinds of memorable events and cover performances of songs by the Fab Four are organized. Fans from all over the world play compositions loved by music lovers of all ages to once again enjoy the immortal music of the Beatles.
Icemaker's Day is a holiday for those whose activities are related to the preparation of ice. It is celebrated on January 16th. And the heroes of the occasion are all the pourers - those who work professionally at large sports venues, preparing ice for competitions of various levels, and those who pour hockey rinks in the courtyards for young hockey and skating fans. The date of the holiday is symbolic. On this day in 1901, engineer Frank Zamboni was born in America. It was he who invented the ice harvester for filling and restoring ice at skating rinks - the resurfacer. Up to this point, all preparation work was done manually. People often underestimate the work of such masters as ice makers. And no wonder, because they are in the shadow of everything that happens on the ice. The spectators' attention is captured by the athletes - the spectacular pucks of hockey players, sparkling lifts in ice dancing, graceful pirouettes of figure skaters. Few people think that in order for high-quality performances to become possible, the painstaking work of ice makers is necessary. Not only the level of the programs shown, but also the health and safety of the athletes depends on properly prepared ice. Often, athletes who have completed their professional careers become ice makers. They know better than anyone else the role high-quality ice plays in the performance of athletes. This profession is also chosen by people with a technical education, for example, engineers and builders. At the same time, their work schedule is very busy. On the days of major tournaments and international competitions, the ice should be in perfect condition by 7 am. At this time, athletes begin their warm-up and first training sessions. In addition, the ice requires constant grinding during competitions and a lot of restoration work after competitions. Therefore, ice makers end their working day late at night. The process of preparing ice itself is interesting and painstaking. It occurs in stages and requires a minimum of seven days. It all starts with creating the necessary atmospheric conditions. First of all, experts reduce the temperature of the base of the ice rink from room temperature to 0 degrees Celsius. Typically the base is concrete slabs or a monolithic concrete platform. Subsequently, the temperature of the base is brought to subzero. All this lasts for several days. The concrete base is washed and cleaned, and then filled with water from a hose. When the water level reaches 2 centimeters, it is painted. For example, in figure skating they use gray ice - they add white, then gray paint, and again fill it with a layer of water. The next stage of work is annealing. To implement this, the temperature of the base is raised, and after that a special combine begins to work in the arena. He squeezes the ice so that air and salt come out. At the end of the combine's rolling, the final layer of ice is poured.
All over the world, January 16 is celebrated as International Hot and Spicy Food Day. Seasonings and spices are added to food not only by gourmets. They allow you to add variety to your diet and transform the taste of familiar dishes. Real passions flare up among spicy lovers, for whom even special restaurants are opened where you can taste, for example, special spicy dishes with pepper. The main hot ingredient used in preparing spicy dishes is chili pepper. There are many varieties of peppers grown in the world, but the most famous at the moment is considered to be the Mexican one - jalapeño. It can often be seen in various sauces, gravies and drinks. Jalapenos are added when smoking, as well as stuffing with meat or seafood. Gourmets with special preferences eat food with the hottest chili pepper in the world, which is called Carolina Reaper. Popular hot ingredients also include: curry, wasabi, horseradish and ginger. The most sizzling dishes can be seen in different cuisines of the world. The most popular among them: • Bollywood Burner - lamb cooked with curry sauce and Carolina Reaper pepper powder, considered the hottest meat in the world. • Hot Suicide Wings – hot wings with a sauce with the ominous name “Suicide” are prepared with the addition of one of the hottest peppers, “Savina”. Not every lover of savory food decides to try these wings. • Phaal is a unique sauce that contains 10 types of pepper in different proportions. The main component is the spice “Bhut Jolokia”, which is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the hottest on the planet. • “American-style watermelon” is a dish with chili pepper and ginger, after tasting which you can feel a real fire in your mouth. • Kimchi is one of the most famous dishes of Korean cuisine, which is prepared from Chinese cabbage or other fermented vegetables, adding hot seasonings. There are quite a lot of lovers of hot and spicy food in the world, but such food also has its opponents. This is explained by the fact that the alkaloid Capsaicin, contained in large quantities in chili peppers and other hot seasonings, has an irritating effect on the mucous membranes of the mouth and nasal cavity, as well as on the skin. It is not a toxic substance, but it is capable of triggering the internal defense mechanisms of the human body, which can lead to negative consequences for health. The benefits of spicy and hot foods have also been proven after various studies. Dishes that are prepared with the addition of spicy spices and hot seasonings can improve the condition of blood vessels. This is due to the fact that after eating such dishes, nitric oxide is formed, which reduces blood pressure and helps regulate blood flow. Hot spices, according to scientists, are useful for hypertension, arteriosclerosis and coronary heart disease, as they lower the level of “bad” cholesterol. Burning components can also prevent the development of cancerous tumors. Therefore, many nutritionists recommend eating a small red pepper once a week to cope with some health problems. Medical research shows that capsaicin is useful for stimulating the functioning of the digestive tract, accelerating metabolism, and also for burning fat cells. When eating spicy and salty foods, increased production of gastric juice occurs. This property does not lead to overeating, but rather allows you to control the amount of food eaten.
Dragons, magical scaly creatures born from fire, have existed throughout mythology since the times of the Romans and Egyptians. Dragons, with their celestial images and otherworldly presence, make our lives much more interesting and never cease to amaze people. Dragon Day is a day dedicated to learning about dragons and sharing your love for these creatures! Dragon Day began when American author Donita K. Paul wanted to celebrate the publication of her first fantasy novel, Spell of the Dragon, part of the five-volume Dragonkeeper Chronicles series. Dragons have always been popular, existing in the mythologies of cultures from all over the world. Dragons inspire us and inspire us with fear at the same time. Western dragons have always been portrayed as fearsome creatures that must either be fought or related to, while eastern dragons have generally been equated with royalty and celestial powers, depending on the culture. However, dragons are also a conquest of consciousness, as they are associated with many human emotions that block the path to enlightenment. Dragons have always been a place of fascination in modern culture, as many authors and directors have helped transform the image of the dragon into something that people can admire. Some of the most famous stories featuring dragons can be found in the novels of Tolkien, Ursula and JK Rowling. In films, TV series and TV shows such as How to Raise a Dragon, Game of Thrones and Eragon, they have influenced the way people see dragons and end up falling in love with them. Dragons have existed since the earliest stages of history and have appeared in many different forms with many different combinations of good and evil. Depictions of dragons tend to vary between cultures. In ancient times, most communities had an ambivalent attitude towards dragons. Like any other creature, these giant flying snakes had both good sides and bad. However, in the West, attitudes towards dragons changed with the advent of Christianity in the late Roman era. Suddenly, dragons became associated with evil due to their serpentine nature. Some people believed that dragons were a real thing and made up stories about how great warriors had to go into the desert to defeat them. The tale of St. George and the Dragon is probably a direct descendant of this thinking. If you think about it in more detail, you can understand why people thought dragons were real. Remember that in ancient times there was no explanation for the giant bones. No one had any idea what dinosaurs were or that the fossilized bones were millions of years old. They only knew that these creatures had recently died and could live beyond the horizon. Belief in "dragons" was logical and perhaps necessary to strengthen the defense. Later, new discoveries appeared in paleontology in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. When the existence of dinosaurs was discovered, it became clear that there really were giant snake-like creatures that roamed the Earth millions of years ago, igniting the public imagination. The variety of dragons is great, and this is one of the main motivations for the Appreciate the Dragon holiday. The fire-breathing variety is the most famous, but there are others. Some are similar to gargoyles found in medieval churches. Others are multi-headed hydras bursting out of the ocean. Some even depict them as mythical creatures with no connection to the real world. After all, the idea of dragons interacting with humans fills our minds with awe and inspires us to fill our minds with fantasy. When it comes to celebrating Dragon Day, you have many options. Draw or color pictures of dragons. Watch your favorite dragon-themed movie with your friends. Read fantasy novels about dragons. Buy or sew a stuffed dragon for yourself or friends! If you love art, you can print out the dragon coloring page. Or you can try to draw a picture of one of these mythical creatures from scratch. Another popular idea is to use the day to prepare dragon-friendly food. What exactly it will be, one can only guess. But deep frying is definitely the way to go here. You want something that requires a little heat and some fiery spices. You can also learn to write in the Dragon language. For those of you who don't know, this is the language spoken by the dragons in the movie How to Train Your Dragon. The writers created an entire universe of words, expecting you to learn them. You can also treat yourself in other ways. How about collecting books and movies related to dragons and creating a dragon collection? What about making a dragon mosaic, performing a puppet show, or doing all sorts of dragon-related things? Once you start talking about dragons, you will be amazed at how many people love them. Don't miss Appreciate the Dragon Day! Share this holiday with your friends and spread the word about your love for dragons!
A person’s faith is a piece of his soul, a reflection of views and beliefs, the free expression of which no one has the right to interfere with. For US law, religious equality is the basis of democracy, the rights and freedoms of every citizen. That is why on January 16 a special holiday will be celebrated, designed to become an example for all countries of the world. It all started with Thomas Jefferson and his legislation, formulated back in 1782. After which the state of Virginia passed a law that ensured all Virginians the right to free religion and unhindered expression of their own beliefs regarding religious issues. Jefferson's position became a prerequisite for ending the practice of taxing citizens by local clergy. Now every person felt free not only financially, but also morally. It was allowed to freely choose a religion depending on one’s own views and preferences. Discrimination based on individual spiritual dogmas and beliefs was strictly prohibited. For the United States, such an innovation in legislation was a huge step forward on the path to democracy and protection of the rights of every individual citizen. Thomas Jefferson became a pioneer; later, on the basis of his works, the first of the ten amendments to the US Constitution was formulated. The famous act - the Bill of Rights, the first clause stipulated a ban on state religion, ensuring civil rights to the free expression of religious beliefs. Every US citizen now had every right to freely and without fear profess any spiritual teachings. In 2003, on January 16, President D. Bush emphasized the need to ensure the unhindered exercise of religion by every citizen. It was also said that throughout the world there are still many people who do not have the opportunity to freely express their thoughts and views, especially when it comes to issues of spiritual worldview. The President called on the people to act together in order to jointly create a favorable future for adherents of any faith. The United States will always support and protect people around the world and defend their sacred right to their own faith. To this day, January 16 is a special holiday for US citizens. The country's leadership considers the protection of freedom of expression of spiritual views to be a fundamental task for the prosperity of democracy, and tries to ensure open worship, protection of the teachings and rituals of any religious movement. On this day, the President appeals to the people to remember the difficult path of the formation of American democracy, moments of history associated with the struggle for civil rights and freedoms, the need to protect the rights to the unhindered choice of religion, and the fight against any manifestations of acts of intolerance and discrimination. Freedom of Religion Day is celebrated by holding all kinds of thematic events in families, schools, offices, institutions, higher educational institutions and just on the streets. Concerts are held in American schools on this bright day. The students themselves prepare costumed theatrical performances, in which they act as historical figures, showing how hard it was to achieve the rights to modern religious freedom. Through these activities, young Americans learn to understand and appreciate the importance of historical events that enabled them to live free from fear and persecution.
According to the folk calendar, Gordeev Day is celebrated on January 16 (January 3, old style). The name of the day comes from the church date of honoring the memory of the holy martyr Gordius. Living in the 3rd century, he devoted himself to serving the Lord. During the time of persecution of Christians, Gordius was subjected to terrible torture and was executed for refusing to renounce God and accept the faith of the pagans. The Gordeev people commemorated the day that pride is a vice that does not lead to anything useful. On this date, peasants avoided boasting and pride, especially for the success of children and good health. They believed that evil spirits were rampant across the earth, so a braggart could instantly lose everything he had acquired. Gordeev's day was considered successful for healing mental illnesses. A person who was possessed by evil spirits was called mentally ill. Such a possessed person was sent to a healer for treatment. It was on Gordeev's day that he began the ritual, seating the patient on a boulder in an open field so that the winds blew on him from all sides. They put a white shirt on him backwards and read out a spell, sprinkling the patient with dew collected in the summer. The proofreading ceremony was carried out at dawn for seven days. The evil spirits, emerging from the mentally ill, looked nearby for a new owner. These could be people or animals, most often cows. Therefore, the peasants avoided the place of such treatment in every possible way. People believed that on Gordeev's Day, evil spirits climb into the barn and milk the cows, and along with the milk, they milk the blood of the animal, which then gets sick and dies. To prevent evil spirits from harming the cattle, they protected them: they hung a tallow candle on the gate, placed aspen branches at the entrance to the barn, and asked the brownie for protection. On this day the cows were treated with attention. They cleaned the barn of manure, laid a straw bedding, and plugged the holes in the barn from drafts. They were also fed to their fill, treating the horned loaf or oatmeal milk porridge. If hares were spotted near the village on Gordeev Day, then frosts were expected; if they rushed across the field, heavy snowfall was expected. Frost on the trees meant that the next few days would be sunny. Snow-white clouds foreshadowed the coming snowstorms. The cold would set in if the moon was bright. The day predicted similar weather in March.
