St. George Cross Day in Russia
Celebrated on 7 DecemberThe order was established in 1769 by Catherine II.
By order of the Empress, the award was given to those who distinguished themselves on the battlefield. The award was in the shape of a cross with blades widening downwards. In the center was a medallion with the image of St. George the Victorious slaying a serpent.
